Coldplay use to be cool. What happened? The Fire Nation attacked.

I listened only once. I'm not into it. It's all over the place. Vocals hidden in back ground. Bad lyrics. Not much of a melody either.

Prefer the rockier live version but it's a definite step up from most of the recent stuff they've been releasing IMO.

New song?
Really like it. Really really like it. And I love those lower register vocals too - a cool effect there. I hear stuff like this and think 'still got it'. It's how much they still want it though.

Could definitely be an AROBTTH b-side, and I mean that as a big compliment. Which is simultaneously uplifting and depressing.

It's how much they still want it though. Agreed. The new song sounds like a fully-realized band, and not one that has been messing around with flavor of the month sounds, artists and producers over the past few years (Princess of China, A Sky Full of Stars, all of AHFOD). The only gripe I can think of with this song is the poor mastering job, since the loud, thumping bass sounds static-y when you turn it up loud on a stereo system. Aside from that, this has to be one of the best and freshest songs that they've done since MX. It'd be nice to get an album full of songs like this that are grandiose in fashion and texture, like the first four albums, while also incorporating some modern electronic touches, like the last three albums.

The new song reminds me a lot of the song "Atlas". I really liked that song. It was a throwback to the 2002-2003 era. I kinda wish they went more down this road after Mylo.

But since we got a volume knob and clipping(and the rest of terminolgy from the loudness war) its pointless to produce songs like that anymore.

Seeing them in Gothenburg in a week. According to setlist.fm they've recently been soundchecking songs like Lovers in Japan, Yes and One I Love, but never actually play them in concert? Hoping they'll throw in at least one surprise for us nerdy fans.

Trying my best not to hate this one. So far not working. First. I respect the hell out of Brian Eno. Second, this song is better than half the shit on A Head a full of Dreams. I still can't get over the career trajectory of this band. If you asked me in 2002 where I saw Coldplay in the year 2017, well this wouldn't have been it at all. Where did that Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Echo & The Bunnymen wanna bes band go???

I felt the same about the previous one too. I'm glad you're able to enjoy it though. But yeah. Fame got to their heads and they stopped putting as much effort into the writing.

Where did that Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Echo & The Bunnymen wanna bes band go??? A Head Full Of Dreams was a sign of a band selling out, far worse then Kings of Leon Only By The Night. Shocking album. For me after Viva La Vida (their true masterpiece imo) their album output has been patchy but that last album was a rotter. What happened was they decide to jump in with the pop scene instead of staying ahead of the curb, U2 and Paul McCartney could be pulled up about the same thing but at least they held out longer. Plus I'm sure old age and been rich men has just made them lazy, they lost that drive and hunger to be the best. But they seem to have lost a lot of the old fans and bought in new fans with their last few releases, one of those few bands who's videos get hundred million views on YouTube and can easily sell out stadiums. I still stick by those first four albums are fantastic.

I like this. Those Viva La Vida strings at the end are great.
If this song is really new as in newly recorded and taken snippets of older material then I have hope for this band restored in some capacity. If this is actually just a remixed/mastered Mylo Xyloto session outtake, then oh well. This song sounds too good to be recent I believe. It's far too expansive and abstract for the crap they've been putting out as of late.

The strings near the ending are gorgeous.

All I Can Think About You is pretty expansive and unconventional, in a similar vein as Politik(!), and it's also on the Kaleidoscope EP with A L I E N S and Hypnotized, which is another sort of expansive and unconventional song (albeit not as good as AICTAY but still good). The problem is, like you said, the crap they've putting out, like SJLT and the Miracles II songs, also on Kaleidoscope, which is mixed in with the really good material and see them collaborating with the freaking Chainsmokers and Big Sean.
