To respond to your posts, Lennon2217 and glider , I agree with the general sense that you guys are after with the album. Overall, it does feel a little larger than the sum of its parts, but the sum of its parts is nothing much at all, very little substance in a lot of the songs (HFTW, AOO/XMTS, AOAL) and a lot of rehashed ideas (AHFOD, AD, and Everglow, to a lesser extent). Even though they are trying new things, in the direction of hip-hop and trap, everything sounds a little bland, and like the band is going head first into mainstream pop. However, with some of those tracks, there are some solid ideas, like on AOAL, AHFOD, U&U, Everglow, and Birds. I think if they continue along that route, the next album will be better, but I doubt they will do so, especially if HFTW takes off...

If Coldplay fans don't like it, why would anyone else? Sure it'll probably get a spike on iTunes after the Super Bowl but it won't last. Their new album is already down to #39 in the Billboard Top 200. I wonder where Be Here Now was 2 months after it's release in 1997? I know Be Here Now was certified platinum (a million copies) about 8-9 weeks after it's August release. Just not sure where it was in the charts.

WTF is Chris wearing in the interview? And are those Air Jordans? Chris's interview skills are just cringeworthy these days. Just feel like punching him in the face.

WTF is Chris wearing in the interview? And are those Air Jordans? Chris's interview skills are just cringeworthy these days. Just feel like punching him in the face. Chris is so full of shit. "This is the version and sound of the band we always wanted."
"The criticism doesn't bother us anymore."I'm calling shannigans on both those statements. If this is the sound of the band you always wanted why did you attempt to be a Radiohead/Jeff Buckley/Travis hybrid between 1999 and 2003? Why did you name drop some of the biggest, most respected indie/rock acts in the world between 2002 and 2005? Chris use to have amazing taste in music and influences. This guy use to worship The Smiths, Echo and The Bunnymen Arcade Fire and The Flaming Lips. Where are those influences now? These days it's name dropping Beyoncé, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Justin Beiber, etc. The criticism does still impact Chris. If you read his interview over the last 3-4 years you see his bafflement over the lack of universal acclaim for Mylo and Ghost Stories. He's said countless time this go around about wanting to be the biggest and most liked band. Well that's not gonna ever happen unless you are The Beatles. This new pop fetish era Coldplay is in right now has completely alienated their original fan base. People like me. I don't know who this band is anymore. It's like they've become the UK Maroon 5. I'm very curious what the next Coldplay album will be like. A Head Full of Dreams didn't get rave reviews, didn't debut #1 as much as it use to globally and is selling less than previous releases. Granted that's happening to most in this new musical wasteland but Coldplay designed this album to be a monster runaway hit. So far it hasn't delivered. I smell Chris Martin solo album and an extended Coldplay hiatus....

The band known as Coldplay died in 2012. Since then it's been Chris Martin's little game of "whatver I like, the band likes" mentality. Plus the guy mentally is not in a good place (in my opinion), Gwyneth dumped HIM. That'd screw up any guy. People need to stop thinking Coldplay is just going to go back to VLA/AROBTTH-level creativity. Those ships have sailed and all you have left is Chris Martin' pulling a solo career while keeping Will, Guy and Jonny piggybacked. They are disgracing their very band's name these days.

Oh I'm well aware Coldplay is never going back to the 200-2003 hey day. It's just sad to see what has transpired with this band since 2008. A swift gallop to the middle of musical political correctness.

Namechecks:
Oasis Radiohead Bob Dylan Jeff Buckley PJ Harvey Travis Doves
And a pretty cool quote: "Thousands of people think Bob Dylan is terrible but...y'know...they should be hospitalised."

Who is that guy? I'd love to hear more music from his band. I'm pretty sure he died a few years ago and was replaced by a more effeminate lookalike. I mean, just listen to the new songs! Could Chris Martin have written this garbage? The answer is no. Chris Martin is dead. I rest my case.
