Now now, they haven't stooped that low yet! To Be Where There's Life is genuinely one of my favourite Oasis song - but I love grooves. Which makes it all the more exciting that Coldplays new single has been described as a "groovy bastard" by Q Magazine! In fairness, it's probably the most marmite Oasis song there is. Chris Martin and co are better songwriters than Gem (obviously) and if they had a genuine interest in world music influences, they would be the sort to embed themselves in that culture, as opposed to 'just doing it because The Beatles did it'. They just wouldn't broaden their horizons, and while Coldplay haven't done so in a while, they have tons of varied material with the Viva La Vida era (whether it's released or unreleased) which delves into other types of music beyond mainstream influence. The creativity involved in Viva La Vida arguably makes it their best album (three way tie personally with Parachutes and Rush of Blood).

Viva was really influenced by world music IMO. The Iraqi guitars on Life in Technicolor, Spanish handclaps on Cemeteries of London, Arabic violins on Yes, and African cellos and guitar line on Strawberry Swing...easily the most creative period for the band for me. As unlikely as it seems, let's hope A Head Full of Dreams brings back that creativity.

Meh. It's a bit annoying, isn't it?
I can't say it's shit, but for sure it's not the Coldplay stuff I'd like to hear. It would fit better on a the latest Daft Punk album.

I'm not too sure yet, I don't think it's necessarily bad but it didn't exactly leave me speechless.
I actually quite like the bass but I suspect this one will take a few more listens.

Like the funky guitar and bas Hate the claps and wohoos. For me its in the middle of Teardrop(low) and Magic(a bit higher) from their first singles.
Noel G guest on this album... Perhaps he will be playing that riff that Chris liked so much back in 2011.

Surprisingly I like it. I was bracing myself for some desperate EDM shite with those idiot producers they hired but got a good old fashioned bit of funk.
Good bass line and guitar is what makes this tune - all the more surprising to hear REAL instruments in a modern day pop song, and not a mass wave of atrocious overproduced synths.

I wonder what song Noel is featured on? Probably guitar only. Gotta love how Coldplay always tells you there is a hidden track on their albums. Kinda defeats the point of it being a "hidden" track.

A song called "Fun" has got to be one of the worst titles in music history.

A song called "Fun" has got to be one of the worst titles in music history. Coldplay also have a thing for birds. This new song title, Up With the Birds (a personal favorite of mine), "Birds come flying at the speed of sound," etc.

A song called "Fun" has got to be one of the worst titles in music history. Coldplay also have a thing for birds. This new song title, Up With the Birds (a personal favorite of mine), "Birds come flying at the speed of sound," etc. Just a flock of birds...that's how Coldplay think of love. Anyway - here's my pros and cons for the day: Pros - The baseline of AOAL is great, funky and danceable. When the music come back on "alive again", it's a great dance moment. Noel Gallagher! Can't wait to hear the chief on a Coldplay record. Some of the tracks sound pretty cool, much better than their average title these days. The artwork is growing on me. Cool to hear more prominent use of rock instruments, even in a dance song. Cons: The song, while nice, is completely forgettable. Can't see myself having any desire to listen to it in the future and it's easily the weakest of their lead singles. The lyrics are awful, yet again. Beyoncé? Really? Titles like "Fun" and "Birds" The simpler cover would have been better. Chris' singing seems completely manufactured in this song, especially compared to the emotion he used to be able to convey. Amazing Day is on the album. If you can hear a slight clicking sound, that's me skipping it in the future. Mixed bag today. Sorry if you just read my exact same post on coldplaying
