Blur guitarist Graham Coxon has given a withering verdict on the current state of the music business, neatly summing it up as ‘shit’. “Really, the whole music business is shit, isn’t it?” he’s told The Guardian. “We need more groups that have a bit more passion or sexiness or politics or something going for them. “Instead, it just seems like a splurge of shit all over the internet. It must be fucking frustrating for a band like Blur - they release a really great album in The Magic Whip, and it merely took the band plus Stephen Street to produce it out of jamming sessions in Hong Kong. Yet their effots go pretty much unnoticed.
The music business is too preoccupied with crap like Beyonce, One Direction, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, etc having 500 people to make each album for them for what? The shite that splurges out of the stereo when you play them? They're total shite - if they all put on 10 stone and someone re-arranged their faces to make them look like a Picasso painting done by a 3 year old, then they wouldn't have a leg to stand on, and nobody would listen to such utter rubbish and they'd all be working in McDonalds. As ever, it's only about the image. Balls to that, I'd rather ram my eardrums with a screwdriver than ever have to listen to all that.
There will always be good acts to find, mostly lurking around in the underground, but the days of a musical pioneer dominating the music industry - like a Bowie or another Beatles - are never ever coming back again.

started with MTV and then CD's dumbing things down but the death
blow was Napster and it's successors. I live in Pasadena, California.
We used to have 10 or so record stores in town. We now have just
2 and those won't be around much longer. Record stores were the
life blood of the scene. With them gone what have you got? The
romance of rock is long gone unfortunately.

The words "music" and "business" should never go together. Good music is being made out there and it always will be. Fuck the "music business", it's all about the fucking music. The musicians should be the ones doing the work and earning the cash, not the boring business twats in their suits. All this "guitar music is dead" stuff everybody keeps spouting off about is bollocks. Good music isn't going anywhere, it's going to be around forever. Just because their aren't many good bands around at the moment, doesn't mean that music is dead. Rock and roll will never die.

Going back on to the subject, I stand by what I said. I find Kanye West alot more interesting than Coxon. He actually says something different. Its usually bizarre, but its different and people take him too seriously. Coxon is just another generic 'the music business is shit' rent-a-quote. And ive seen both live and Kanye put on a show and Coxon was a disgrace. High on drugs, knocked his microphone over with his head fiddling about and couldnt string a sentence together.
