The fuck did I just read. And why the fuck is this 4 pages long. It's threads like this that make me want to jump ship to a One Direction forum, because the direction here is all sorts of fucked. Humanity is truly going to shit.

There are some classic cake recipes in this ancient Co-Op book, plus an endorsement by BBC tv's Jon Pertwee to boot. Here he is, depicted in typical mid-70s British advertising style, clutching a Garibaldi biscuit whilst surrounded by a selection of beige meat, a tiny portion of peas, and a Gugelhupf cake for dessert. Yep, that celebrity endorsement is not in anyway random at all....

This is the thread for all the petty arguments that seem to derail a large number of decent, well meaning threads. If you want to play #TeamLiam and #TeamNoel, this is the place. Maybe this could be pinned at at the top of the playpen so people can find it more easily. ARE YOU BONKERS, ARE YOU BONKERS, ARE YOU BONKERS IN DISGUISE? ARE YOU BONKERS IN.DIS.GUISE?

Indeed, I think today we'd be spared that level of randomness... not to mention the blatantly out-of-proportion hand thrusting a Garibaldi towards Pertwee's face, haha. In terms of endorsements by ex-Dr Who actors, this old Prime Computers ad (starring Tom Baker and Lalla Ward) seems a much better fit with the show. Funny to think that these were state of the art computers by early 80s standards, now of course most people's phones have far more processing power, heh. That said, maybe someone should have got Tom Baker to endorse jelly babies, as it was a trademark of his Doctor to offer them to anyone he met...

This is almost beyond parody. And that Jon Pertwee portrait. Look at Pertwee's hands! They are MASSIVE!

They're often the thing that dates quickest. And to think that those huge mainframes with tape drives were amazing at the time. Growing up in the late 80s I remember seeing computers like that on TV, and using the BBC micro computers at my first school. So crude but at the time it was hi-tech compared to what came before. And then the printers were laughable... with dot matrix ones it would take ages to print a sheet of a4 and you could clearly see the individual dots making each letter. (Reading this back it inadvertently sounds like an updated Four Yorkshiremen type reminiscence... "120 of us in a shoebox in middle of t road." ). All that aside, it does make me wonder what technology will come along in the next 40 years that will make today's gear look absurd. But I guess none of that would've helped the artist doing that portrait of Pertwee. I like how he blatantly has used a stock photo as reference for Pertwee, hurriedly stuck it on a "sports casual" type jacket and tie, and added that massive hand. Haha.

Yes, I used BBC computers back in my first couple of years at primary school, and that was the mid 90s. Though I think they were out of date then, so it's more an indicator of how backwards my school was! And that reminds me of printers back in old school, it would take half an hour to receive the 'signal' to print, always remember the class sitting in silence and it suddenly decided to kick into action - would scare the shit out of everyone! No doubt future generations will laugh at us using ipads and such!

No doubt future generations will laugh at us using ipads and such! Yeah, I remember those printers being loud too. Really screechy! As an aside to this, I read an interview with Star Wars sound designer Ben Burtt recently (the guy who created the iconic sounds of the lightsaber, R2D2 etc). And he said he loves to dig out and record the sound of old gadgets and computer equipment (such as old printers etc) because it makes such distinctive and loud noises that he can't find anywhere else... modern technology is far more powerful but for his purposes less interesting because it's much quieter in operation.
One other thing this reminds me of is some of the games that were popular on these early home computers. I remember at school in the late 80s, there would be a rush to use the ZX Spectrum, to play games like this adaptation of The Hobbit... here's a sample of the lush graphics. I think this was quickly set aside by the 8-bit consoles coming in at the time though, then 16-bit.

John Lemon-Cake or Paul McTartney? John Lemon-Cake is far over it's expire date, about 35 years to be more precise. I don't think that'd taste well. Going to see McTartney tomorrow!

What boredom makes...
Noel's next Digsy's Dinner:
Cake me To fill the gap that's growing on me Im sick of the way my belly implores me Build a little fire, the oven's cold ... I wanna live in a dream In my cooking machine The biggest pice for me own And every leftover inside my mouth Just put the whole chocolate. And maybe some lemonade The biggest pice for me own And you can't make me spit it out
