Pitty, such a short song, it would be much better that runs a minute longer, one of the 4 favourite songs on the album.

I like this song, it grew on me, the lyrics are ok but it sounds great.

I love it, I think it's like Soldier Boys and Jesus Freaks, sometimes i like it, sometimes not That's actually a fantastic comparison, and one I agree with. SBAJF sounded dull to me at first, but sometimes I like it. Still the weakest on NGHFB, mind.

SBAJF sounded dull to me at first, but sometimes I like it. Still the weakest on NGHFB, mind. I love the opening lines of the song, and the nod to The Kinks, "All the people of the village green, gather 'round their TV screens, to hear the government about to speak, for soldier boys and Jesus freaks...", and then the lines from there on forward to the "She could kiss the sky" bit. I feel as though if Noel would've put a 50 piece choir in that little bit, to go with that beautiful trumpet, it would've made it sound extraordinary. Awesome song, and it's one of the reasons why I recently DL'ed The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society because if that song is similar to The Kinks, I'd be very glad to know what the band actually has.

Back on track.. I love how the bassline works well with the Mellotron and electric guitar on that Masterplan-sounding Middle 8. Plus the little solo that seems little disoriented (for lack of a better term) gives the song a bit of a quirky vibe to it, which is what a song titled "The Girl with X-Ray Eyes" should have.

I had the most wonderful time discovering The Kinks. you'll love if you're a fan of Noel's solo stuff. everybody in this world should own everything they released from Face to Face ('66) to Muswell Hillbillies ('71).
