Ronnie is once again the world #1, and equals the record for most tournament victories ever in the process. Rock 'n' roll star He was losing his rag a bit tonight but managed to hold it together. I don't think Robertson was ever ahead after 2-1, though, right? Ronnie got frustrated (and he genuinely seemed to have some bad luck where he made an incredible pot but ran out of position quite a few times, particularly in the afternoon session), but it never really looked like he was in danger of losing a grip on the match. The World Championship next month will be fascinating.

And Judd Trump wins his first world title! He was fucking unreal in that middle session, winning eight frames on the run against John Higgins is ridiculous. There was a century break he made to go 5-6 up that might honestly have been the best one I've ever seen. Fantastic player, and someone who has the potential to dominate for a good few years.

Glad Higgins lost the cheat.
The crowd seemed to have conveniently forgotten what happened in 2010...

The Rocket in fine form this afternoon.
Hoping one of the young guns makes it to the final ahead of Higgins. Someone like Trump or Robertson would be great.

Christ, Mark Selby is wrist slashingly boring.
I appreciate the defensive side of the game, and love a good safety battle, but he’s actively destructive in every game. Very successful but still the worst player I’ve had the misfortune of watching. Anyone who beats him deserves to win the title simply for knocking the dull fucker out. Always disliked him.

I'm glad as fuck John Higgins is out. Great player, but come on, he's hardly the sexy new face of snooker. Was made up that Maflin, with all his attacking emotion, knocked him out. Shaping up to be a great championship! Ronnie v Ding is a fantastic clash of talent already.

Ridiculous that one of them will have to go out so early.

Oh my how tense was the end of the McGill and Clarke game?
Oh Clarke. Choked big time.
Classic Crucible stuff despite the quality being low in that match.

Shaping up to be a great championship! Ronnie v Ding is a fantastic clash of talent already. Hmm, I tend to agree with Ronnie concerning the poor standard of youngsters coming through. I’m probably biased as the likes of Higgins, Williams and O’Sullivan are who I grew up on and maybe there’s nostalgia blurring my perception but I tend to want the best break builders like them to win. Throw in Stephen Hendry over 20 years ago and you were watching centuries right, left and centre from all these players. These lot really were a golden generation. Of the young ish players, Judd Trump is terrific to watch when he’s on top form and I was so glad he won last year but most youngsters seem risk averse. No matter how successful he is, Selby’s a dullard who really drags the game down with his style. The only other one who has a good number of years left who would be great for the game is Ding who I’m hoping wins the World Championship one day. Watching a match like McGill/Clarke in the second round was just rotten most of the time - very defensive but littered with silly mistakes. Not many 20 something year olds are winning tournaments worryingly and I wonder what the state of the game will be like in ten years time (when surely O’Sullivan and co will be mostly gone).

I was shocked to find out the other day that Robertson is pushing forty! He could have gone to school with Higgins, for god's sake, I always thought of him as a younger one. I agree that Ding would be a fantastic world champion, it's a travesty that he's out of the competition while McGill goes past a qualifier.

I think you've got to have the likes of Selby in the game, it's good to see contrasts of styles. That's why I like having Burnley in the Premier League, too, it'd be a bit boring if everyone was just trying to be a Guardiola/Ronnie clone.

I respect Selby, he wins and that’s the aim of the game. But if his influence is big on the youngsters, I won’t be a snooker fan if that’s the way the game is heading.

Christ on a bike, as expected, this game has become torturous and tedious to watch. Selby’s game really does make me want to crawl into a hole and die. Come on Ronnie for goodness sake.
