Think there a few other fans of The View on here. New song, Marriage, released yesterday. Quite different to previous stuff.

I've followed The View's whole career, From Hats Off to Cheeky For a Reason, and each album has had great, great songs throughout. To name just a few - Wasted Little DJs, Shock Horror, Glass Smash, Grace, Sunday, Bullet, AB, Sour Little Sweetie. Consistent, amazing songs with great energy and singing.
This, however, is a steaming pile of balls. I really, really hope the rest of the album is better. Everything good about The View is absent from this song.

I didn't like it at first either but after quite a few listens it's worked it's way into my head.

Think it's a very poor effort.

Strangely enough, I've seen the View live more than any other band, just through them supporting some of my favourite bands and playing at Uni. I've also played in a studio while they were recording (not with them) but I've never actually bought any of their records.

Their first three albums are really good, especially liked Bread & Circuses. Cheeky for a Reason was already a letdown and this...sorry, I see nothing interesting at all in this song. The View had two things going for them, a good indie rock sound and big choruses, this has neither.

I kind of gave up on them after the awful second album (their third album was ok), I think their debut album is a fine effort (Wasted Little DJs, Face for the Radio and Same Jeans are fine singles), nothing about them were ever going to make them a massive band, didn't they try to act out like the bad boys of British indie. I think the fact Pete Doherty and NME gave them a bit of hype people probably over hyped them. They go down with the likes of Hard Fi, Klaxons, The Enemy etc. Mid 00 band's who were overhyped by NME but were decent to okay acts

They're really good live. And I rate most of their albums, they're just a bit uneven

Album is now out, tis on spotify etc. I can confirm that the album is incredible, except for the Marriage song. Literally every song is excellent bar that song, Under the Rug is just alright, but the 8 other album tracks are - IMO - extremely good.

Was a bit underwhelmed at first when they released half the album as an ep, but having heard all of it, I love it, got loads of the songs rattling around my head. I think I needed to adjust my expectations, was just hoping for one classic song, all their albums have one or two. But while their are no instant classics, every song is really good, it's an interesting album and good to see them experimentig after their last album, which although brilliant, a really great album, was very safe.
At first was a bit miffed at some of the songs they've squandered in between albums (Kill Kyle, Tight Hopes) but this is a very coherent album, I was worried it would come across as insubstantial, but although quite short and without any huge singles, it hangs together very well, and the songs they didn't put in the EP are all amazing.
Saw them live last night, they're always really good, although they didn't seem as into it as other times I've seen them, but the new songs translate well in a live setting, and the setlist reminded me just how many classic indie belters they already have to cram into a set, it was nice for the new songs to add some variation. The new stuff is just as good, it just takes a bit longer to get into. Which is really what you want from a band on their fifth album: Depth.
Now we'll see where it charts...

How is their new album?
Bread and Circuses & Cheeky for a Reason came out in quick succession. Liked both well enough. How does Ropewalk compare?

Every song on the album except the Marriage single is pure gold. Can't believe it charted at 21 on albums, deserves so much more. Songs such as Living and Tenement Light are up there with their best. Such a shame.

their new album is probably their best so far, or at least equal to their debut.

Poor album in my opinion. Under The Rug is good as is Voodoo Doll. Some of the other tunes are terrible by their standards. Seems they've just released an album so that they can go out & tour. The albums had next to fuck all promotion either, wouldn't have helped it's charting.

Didn't really like the new album at first but am really enjoying it now after a good few listens. Really like the low-fi sound, which I suppose is a bit of a signature of Albert Hammond. Psychotic is probably my favourite tune.
