Damn, it seems like a fucking crime to use distortion for today's Noel Gallagher. Everything is so fucking clean and 'polite', from the drums to the guitars. I wish it had more aggression.

You write to the voice. I don't think Noel's vocals support being in a song that's heavily distorted anymore. His voice clearly matches up better with TDOYAM of the world than WFTR. Some people need to face the fact that he's not writing and producing for Liam's vocals anymore. He's recording in a manner that most suits his voice. The days of Noel doing something as heavily distorted and dirty as Supersonic are gone and so is Liam. And shit, even with Beady Eye, FLW is the only song I can think that they did that was truly unruly distorted guitars. The rest of it was light pop fanfare.

Live version is by far the best...the demo was awful (lacked any umpth) this studio recording doesn't quite have the power of it live. It doesn't really matter which tracks are album or not these days.

I don't need to face anything, I'm just telling my view. I don't see the need to throw the Beady Eye vs. NGHFB, Liam vs. Noel thing into every debate all the time. I'm just talking about him. And the thing you all come up with is the old story 'the times of Supersonic are gone'. I'm not talking about Supersonic, I'm talking about his late stuff with Oasis too (e.g. WTFR that you mentioned). And BTW I appreciate his new record.

I strongly believe Do The Damage is a new recording, since it features a saxophone part, played by the same guy (the Primal Scream guy, can't come up with his name right now) who did the solos on Riverman and the bass clarinet on The Right Stuff. That's at least what the credits in the booklet of CY say, if I remember right - a japanese forum member had posted a picture of it. I'm not sure about Freaky Teeth, though it didn't mention Sardy as a producer. However, I really don't think it's the AA version (how do we even know they had worked on that song during these sessions? Never found any proof). Because firstly it would certainly sound completely different and secondly, the AA are not credited as co-producers, like on The Right Stuff/Mexican.

As far as FT goes, wasn't the whole point of it being played in the first place that it was a track from the then-forthcoming AA album? Always thought it was, the song, probably not this track, a part of that album. Also, with the saxes on DTB, it could just be overdubs onto the original. I do doubt that though, so you're probably right. Let's get Lennon in here. He can solve this shit for us

I'm not talking about Supersonic, I'm talking about his late stuff with Oasis too (e.g. WTFR that you mentioned). And BTW I appreciate his new record. My point wasn't even a Liam vs. Noel point, but if you want to take it that way then fine. My point, is that neither of them at this stage in their careers are producing these deep distorted tracks. Even something like WFTR is a clean production. When you say distorted guitars that are unruly then there's not much in the Oasis cannon that's not from pre 2000, so it's not really an old or tired argument. You kind of have to go back to Supersonic or Fade away for something truly unruly or distorted. Anything after that is fairly tamed. Even WFTR is a fairly tamed distortion. As I said, this isn't about making it Liam v. Noel. This is saying, thinking CURRENTLY, about today's record, the idea of either of them doing those types of unruly distorted tracks are gone and have been gone for sometime. So, when you say why doesn't Noel bring out the distortion, it's really, why didn't oasis in general bring out the distortion since 2000. Which is why I brought in Liam. Because it's more of a systemic pattern. Liam is just the added evidence. But by all means, make this into another Liam v. Noel debate. Noel is writing for his voice. Not Liam of 96 and certainly neither nor liam are writing for Liam today. Both of them have realized that you write to the voice. Which both their voices now compliment a more laid back style. It's no surprise that the worst songs the two have tried to produce lately have been the ones where they've tried to recapture that distorted glory.

I don't agree at all, but it's not the case to get into this as it' s a bit off topic. I don't know if you play guitar but I'm talking about distortion in that respect. It's fine anyway, I understand your view.

I can see where you both are coming from spaneli and frjdoasis. I'm pretty happy with the way Freaky Teeth turned out, but I do think it'd be an awesome cover for a band like the Black Lips or FIDLAR. The song could definitely be turned into a spooky garage/lofi ruckus. Noel can't really do that type of song at his age. Noel actually described this song rather well all those years ago. It fits into the james bond vibes. The one thing I wish it had is a better guitar solo. If Stacey had the honors on it, it'd probably be that much better. Imagining some wah ala The Right Stuff.

When I saw Noel on tour in NYC, he mentioned prior to Freaky Teeth that it was a new song that will be on his next album. He was referring to the AA album since at that point in time he said to the press countless times it was going to be becoming out in early to mid 2012.

Loving the studio version of Freaky Teeth, I think he's made a good decision to not put it on the album, considering he was playing it live well over 3 years ago. That's exactly my point, fucked off hearing it. I would've been very upset if it was included on the record. Many people have said on here that they would've been upset if various different older songs (like Come On Outside etc) made it onto the record, yet everyone seems delighted to have something that has previously been released officially (all be it in demo form)

It is a cracking tune though. The demo did it no justice and although it's taken a few listens, I'm really enjoying this studio version.

Its not horrible by any means tbh. My main problem is that I would just rather listen to 'House Of The Rising Sun' any day of the week.

The studio version is alright, but the live versions are transcendental. It's mainly because of Russell's backing vocals, heavier guitars and the organ, that majestic, demented, screaming carnival organ.
