Bored so thought Id rank all the Oasis/post-Oasis albums based on quality, best at top, and yes I know im not conforming.

Been Oasis fan since they started out, but remember being at the absolute max as a fan in 1997 when BHN was being released, going into Virgin and listening on those headphone posts a week before, literally went in a dozen times. Then queueing up to buy it as early as possible and the queue was huge!
Still to this day love the album altho it's way over produced and so on, just brings back fond memories & great to see them Live then when Liam could sing Live. Still think it has Noel's best songs he's written just production was ott.

DOYS (half of it is great)
SOTSG (big disappointment when it came out, but it has grown on me )
DGSS (I know production is too retro, but I still think here are many good songs in it )
BE (Production was much better, but not many strong songs)
DBTT (Liked it more when it came out but I only listen occasionally to TOBI and POTQ nowadays)
HC ( I still like THT, Songbird and SCYHO but it has too many horrendous songs )

Huge gap between 8 and 9 - I still love the first 7 tracks on DOYS while DBTT, the BDI albums and HC are okay but nothing amazing.

EDIT: Having listened to Chasing Yesterday in it's proper form finally, I'm putting it ahead of Be Here Now. Not that I don't love Be Here Now, but it's tiring to listen to, partly because of it's length and the brickwall mastering. Chasing Yesterday is an absolute pleasure and a joy to listen to and doesn't feel like 45 minutes of music.

This probably won't be popular. And chasing yesterday is at a disadvantage, as I've been playing the others for years and love them all (pretty much)

1-3 are unfeasibly good, 4 and 5 are classics, 6 and 7 are near misses for me, flawed but great records and maybe the ones I listen to most and find most interesting. I think Be is mostly a great record with a few poor Andy songs, Chasing Yesterday I haven't properly had time to get to know, atm I like but don't love it. And the last three could be in any order really. HC has amazing singles and some unbelievable shite, First half of Dig out your soul is great, I never listen to the second half. Great songs but maybe no real top tier classics, and different gear is a good record, very consistent, but nothing approaching Stop Crying Your heart out or Bag it Up

Unranked: Chasing Yesterday (waiting to get my physical copy!) 1-2 are the best of what the guys have to offer, bar none, no doubt. 3-4 are the closest they've come to rivaling the top two, and are both very solid albums, but just lack something to truly be up there with them. 5-8 are the ones that come within a few replacements, and smart production moves (like BHN) of challenging one of the top four (except BE but it's still a good album). 9-10 are the ones with some good tracks to be had, but aspects of the sound & production, along with some of the songs, in general, affect the albums from being really good. |
