I'm gonna dive a little deeper and celebrate some of my favorite Beady Eye songs. Four Letter Word
To me this should have been the first thing anybody heard from Beady Eye. A straight up rocker and snarling Liam vocals. This is what all Oasis fans wanted. I understand they attempted to be different with "Bring The Light" but maybe rockabilly wasn't the ideal message to send on first glimpse of the band. Andy really hit a home run on this song. It's the sound of 5 guys kicking the front door down saying we're back fuckers. MillionaireThis track divided a lot of the forum but I always loved the sound of it. Such a different guitar feel and vibe. Loved the bouncy, fun nature of the song. To me it was one of the more interesting tunes off of Different Gear, Still Speeding. Andy again did right in my book composing this song. The RollerI have no idea why a song like this couldn't have fit on Heathen Chemistry. To my ears it sounds tailor made for that album. If anything it needed to be a little more raw and dirty compared to it's pristine nature on DGSS. Noel wasn't far off, it does have that "Instant Karma" stomp to it. I still hear this song in odd places out and about in society. Most notably at the Bonefish Grill chain restaurant. Somebody there likes the Gallagher brothers because I've also heard "The Beat Goes On", "Dream On" and "The Death of You and Me" at their establishments over the years. In The Bubble With A BulletWow, what a fantastic b-side. Probably deserved a place on DGSS. Talk about a song that sounds like it was recorded at the Let It Bleed recording sessions. Sounds like something Andy would cook up with his Stones obsession but I think Gem ended up creating most of it. Top tune that I was lucky enough to catch live at Terminal 5 in December 2011 (My final Beady Eye gig). Flick of The FingerNow we are cooking boys. This is a chugging beast of a tune! Love the horns. They really helped make this song sound epic. What a nice comeback intro for Beady Eye on album #2. It deserved a better fate and I wish much more people knew of the song. It'll get stuck in your head. I'm Just SayingTo me, this sound have been the lead single off BE. Given the position of the band at the time of the album's release, Beady Eye needed to come back with a potential big single and to my ears this is the most commercial. I strongly believe that they needed to secure as much commercial success as possible for us to even get a third album. I'm not saying this song could have changed the course of history with the band but it couldn't hurt it either! This is by far one of the band's best rockers. I don't even care about the clumsy, stupid "1-2-3, you and me" nonsense at the end. Fun song all around. I'm just saying! Back After The Break/Off At The Next Exit/Girls In Uniform/Evil EyeI absolutely love this mini run of four songs. In my opinion they should have been on BE or even maybe a separate EP. Something more than just bonus tracks and extra songs on the Japanese edition. I guess I should just appreciate the fact we got them at all. Maybe because they were some of the last songs we heard from the BE album cycle, I thought the band had enough spark to keep going with tunes like this.

Most of these tracklistings pi$$ all over DOYS, for starters, and are up there or better than a lot of Oasis's post 2000 output.
Fact is people were never really going to give Beady Eye a chance. The general public mistakenly believes Noel was the only talent in Oasis and to be fair Liam and co didn't help by seeming to be stuck in a 60s/70s timewarp and making some poor decisions along the way.
Still, they left us with at least one album's worth of quality Liam-sung tunes, so I thank them for that.

Said it before but I honestly think the best of their collective output since the 'songwriting democracies' 12 years ago matches, or at least isn't far off Noel's best work from the same period, although Noel writes 5 good songs for every 1 of theirs

Have changed my tracklisting a bit and thought I'd expand on it...
1. I'm Just Saying
As much as I love Flick of the Finger, this should have been the first single off BE. It's been described as a cross between Hello and The Swamp Song and it would have been a perfect way to pick up some radio play and some new fans. It's poppy, catchy and would have made the ideal summer single.
2. In The Bubble With A Bullet
This is a bit of a curveball because it's got quite a country tinge to it a la The Charlatans, Primal Scream and I always felt those sort of tunes would sound great with Liam's voice on them. It's the kind of upbeat, quirky tune people wouldn't necessarily expect from Liam and Beady Eye, and again really catchy.
3. Second Bite Of The Apple
A bit of a Marmite song this one - some people love it, others hate it. Personally, while it might not have the most inspired lyrics, I love the groove of it and the instrumentation on there. It's kind of what they were trying to do on DOYS but didn't pull it off.
4. Iz Rite
Again a great pop song and should have been the second single. Put it together with a simple, summery video and I'm sure it would have got decent plays on radion, music TV and YouTube.
5. Kill For A Dream
This one just stays the right side of being a rip-off of Champagne Supernova. Could have benefited from a bit more inventive production but it's still a great tune.
6. Wigwam (remix)
The verses on this are immense, but there's no real chorus to speak of and the second half ('I'm coming up') goes on way too long and doesn't really go anywhere, so I've edited it down and repeated the first verse at the end.
7. Soon Come Tomorrow
Love this song. Again, not your typical meat and potatoes rock you'd expect from Beady Eye. Quite a dark tune and brilliantly produced, really showcases Liam's voice. What Fade In-Out should have been like.
8. The Roller
Just a really good pop song and one that deserved a place on an Oasis album. Great feelgood tune.
9. Flick Of The Finger
One of the best post-2000 Gallagher tunes. A real beast that sounds like it comes from some post-apocalyptic future. The horns make it sound immense.
10. Back After The Break
A melancholy, bittersweet tune and again not what you'd expect from a Liam-fronted outfit like Beady Eye. It's great to be surprised by a Liam Gallagher-sung tune for a change. This breaks from the tried and trusted formula and sounds fresh as a result. Ends the album on a question mark.

1. Four Letter Word 2. Millionaire 3. The Roller 4. World Outside My Room 5. Kill For A Dream 6. Don't Brother Me 7. Evil Eye 8. I'm Just Saying 9. Off At The Next Exit 10. The Beat Goes On 11. The Morning Son 12. Start Anew
Had The World's Not Set in Stone turned out anywhere near as good as the live version promised, I'd put it in there. Sadly it didn't.

It's a shame to see Beady Eye have broken up, i'm not suprised though really. I've cobbled the following best of playlist together, some really great songs among these, however I think that both albums just really lacked something, they were both just a bit dull / uninspiring.
1. Four Letter Word 2. Millionaire 3. The Roller 4. In The Bubble With A Bullet 5. World Outside My Room 6. Second Bite Of The Apple 7. Flick Of The Finger 8. Wigwam 9. The Morning Son 10. Soon Come Tomorrow 11. Off At The Next Exit 12. Start Anew 13. Evil Eye (Japanese Bonus Track)

Revisiting just how great "Off at the Next Exit" is. I really wish their albums had been more in the vein of that song, or World Outside My Room, In The Bubble With a Bullet - would have been an album unlike any Oasis album, a more low-key affair but more rewarding I think.
I get the feeling that these songs will be appreciated more over time, songs like the ones I mentioned being 'lost classics' of a sort to new generations of fans.

Yellow Tail would have been a great instrumental opening to Liam's film "The Longest Cocktail Party".

Yellow Tail would have been a great instrumental opening to Liam's film "The Longest Cocktail Party". 'Yellow Tail' and 'White Smoke' are my jams. Is there an official version of 'Yellowtail', like what they did with 'White Smoke' or something? I've listened to 'White Smoke' about a million times in the last week....hopefully Liam goes that route in the future. God bless.

Luckily this is a "best of" collection, because if it was a "greatest hits," it would end up being a two-song single.
