Has anyone else noticed that the Mexican is also in Noel's original handbook from before Def Maybe? I'm wondering if he did wind that the old demos were out and about so he reworked some older songs?

There's definitely a song called 'Mexico' in Noel's handbook, but I don't think it is the same song. We don't know actually, we didn't heard any of them. I think it will sound fresh anyway.

There is also a song called Riverbank.
THE EARLY YEARS - REVISITED
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Paolo Hewitt's 1997 book 'Getting High: The Adventures Of Oasis', the author documents the time in 1996 when Noel came upon a copy of a new bootleg CD which included these tracks, and the moment where he revealed this to the rest of the band.
At about one-thirty in the morning, as the coach travelled towards St. Louis, Noel Gallagher stepped into the front area where Guigsy, Bonehead, Liam and Alan White were sitting, and said, 'Have I got a tape to play you.' 'What?' Liam quickly demanded. 'What you got? What is it?'. 'Ah, ah,' Noel said, bending down to slot the tape into the machine. He pressed the play button and then sat down with an all-knowing smile on his lips. 'Come on,' Liam demanded. 'What the fuck is it?' Suddenly, the old Oasis number 'Colour My Life' started up through the speakers. 'Fucking hell,' Bonehead exclaimed, 'it's us!' 'Where do you get it? Where do you get it?' Liam demanded. 'Bootleg CD that's just come out,' Noel informed him. 'No prizes guessing who's put it out.' 'Who?' Liam asked. 'Well, who else apart from us and Coyley would have access to rehearsal tapes or a gig from the Boardwalk?' Noel replied. For the next hour the band settled down, delighted to hear themselves and their music from four years ago. Songs such as 'Take Me', 'See The Sun', 'Must Be The Music', 'Better Let You Know', 'Snakebyte', 'I Will Show You' and the acoustic number 'Life In Vain', took them straight back to the Boardwalk, to rehearsing and dreaming, of Liam being regularly thrown out of the club, of Noel bouncing cheques to pay their way. Part of the CD also featured an early gig at the Boardwalk. 'There were four people at that gig,' Liam remembered, 'and we were fucking giving it to them. Come on, Oasis!' 'You know,' Noel commented as the last song died away, 'that's better than the Beatles' demo tape. Some of those lyrics aren't too bad. I think I'll use some of them.' Then he paused to think. 'How top would that be? I've ripped everybody else off. Now I'm ripping myself off.'
And i think it's great that he's doing it. That's what i expected from the first album as well. To bring some diamonds from the past that no one ever heard. I bet hes got a few of them.

Considering how bad Noel usually is at choosing which songs to use on albums, it's entirely possible he still has some gems from his early years in Oasis...and since he's already doing Lock all the Doors, why not go all in and salvage some more stuff from back then.

It's possible, but Noel's repurposed song titles before (Stop the Clocks).

This is what Chasing Yesterday is all about actually... This may be a valid point. It could be almost entirely an album getting out the gems of his long past with a few new tunes thrown in. Not sure how I'd feel about that if this were true, but it's better than nothing at all.

Thanks for that Link I've never seen that site before. In light of the recent demo tape it would appear 'Alice' and "She always comes up smiling' are either the same or similar songs as the latter is the first line of Alice.

He's singled out Lock All The Doors a few times now whilst mentioning how long it took, so I'd say it's unlikely that 'Mexico'/'The Mexican' or 'Riverbank'/'Riverman' have the same kind of story. But who'd have thought that about Lock All The Doors. I still find it absolutely fascinating that he's gone back to this - I do hope he goes into more detail about what brought this on, whether it was the demo tape that leaked last year or the official DM re-release, and the mention of Lock All The Doors in the sleevenotes, or if it really did still live in the mind. We had an inkling that Revolution Song might see the light as he mentioned it in that NME interview during the last tour, but Lock All The Doors coming back blows my mind. If he's done it to another few songs, and that it's a concept for the album, then that would be fascinating.

If you're gonna be rude to me like that, i will accept every Noel's future offer to produce any of his or Oasis or Beady Eye or Radiohead or Arcade Fire record. I will even aply for doing future Beatles remasters. So behave yourself. What else you like ? Coldplay? I'll ruin Coldplay as well.

I have a theory that Noel pathologically lies about the origins of the songs he writes for shits and giggles. I think he loves to rework old songs he wrote decades before but never released. As much as Noel gets flak for copying others the truth is he loves to copy himself more than any other artist.
