Thank you asimarx for the full description, I enjoyed reading through these. Also interesting to note I think how the album was going to end, with A Bell Will Ring ending with a movie quote, that sounds interesting to me Thanks, much appreciated! Actually the album was going to end with Keep The Dream Alive and there had been some sort of movie quote at the end that had to be cut for whatever reason. Can't remember anymore or which movie it was from right now, it's been awhile since I put that down. By the way this was mentioned by Noel in the XFM track-by-track interview I've recommended. EDIT: Here's a download link to the interview: www.sendspace.com/file/oqcg1fThis link was blatantly stolen from the SNH bootleg Archive, originally uploaded by NoelsOasis. Hope he doesn't mind me posting it on here. I'm not able to find it on Youtube and it helps the cause. Thank you for the link and thank you to NoelsOasis for the original upload. Going to listen to it now

I remember there being the odd early album review which had Stop The Clocks on the tracklist and Edith Bowman who did the interview for the DVD that came with the album commented about it on Radio 1, does anyone know at what stage of the process it got taken off? It must have been pretty close to when it was completed. Taken from Wikipedia: The song was widely expected to be included on Oasis' 2005 album, Don't Believe the Truth, when it came out in May of that year. However, Noel revealed in a short interview to Q in March 2005 that the song, which was tentatively slotted in at track 7, in between "The Meaning of Soul" and "Part of the Queue", might not be included on the album, adding that there was a debate taking place at that moment.[1] The absence of the track was soon confirmed, when Oasis' official web site released the final track listing for the album [in March as well], with "Stop the Clocks" nowhere to be seen.I wonder how that version sounded compared to the demos we have and Noel's solo recording. "In between The Meaning Of Soul and Part Of The Queue" also implies that it was replaced by Guess God Thinks I'm Abel.

There must surely be two or three lesser known facts about the DBTT session you know that haven't been posted yet, isn't there? ;-) What do you reckon about the Death In Vegas session? Any ideas what was recorded apart from the few songs that have been confirmed? I've already thought about trying to get in touch with DIV via their website. This might be a hopeless idea but I'm so eager to know what they had recorded, how the tracklist was arranged or how they wanted to approach the mixes. It pretty much seems like it was a fully conceived record.

No, I don't know any more - that tracklisting was from a newspaper preview before ths album came out and (presumably) before the final tracklisting was officially announced.

Let There Be Love Hate to bump this, but I could see how that would've worked. Honestly, it would've made for an even better flowing album than what they came up with, and what they come up with was pretty good. However, since STC didn't make the final cut, you could rework it to use the official release's tracks and B-sides, and get something like this for the second half: 6. Eyeball Tickler 7. Part of the Queue 8. Keep the Dream Alive 9. Guess God Thinks I'm Abel 10. A Bell Will Ring 11. Let There Be Love Looking at it now, it makes more sense as to why they put that little electric bit at the end of GGTIA

There's no way Stop The Clocks would've worked in the middle of the album. The ending to the song is obviously the ending to any album it's on. It just simply doesn't work anywhere else on any album.
This probably annoyed Noel because I remember him saying he didn't want Let There Be Love on the album at all, even though he thinks it's great, he didn't want a flag waver on the album for once but the management put pressure on them for it to be on album and more than likely for it to be a single. Let There Be Love is very much a 'closing' track to any album as well.

Thinking back again I think he just didn't want Let There Be Love to be a single. So I could be way off.
Looking at that tracklisting again. Stop the Clocks coming after a The Meaning of Soul, does that mean this is a Liam vocal take because assuming ''Idle" precedes The Meaning of Soul that would mean less than two minutes of Liam singing between Idle and Stop The Clocks and then Part Of The Queue? That would be a bad flowing section right there.
5. The Importance of Being Idle 6. The Meaning of Soul 7. Stop The Clocks (Noel) 8. Part of the Queue

Liam's voice on Record Machine would've been great but I think Stop The Clocks is very much a Noel song. Yuck, I'm becoming one of them

DBTT's track list cocked up as any other LP the band released. It's dumbfounding some tracks missed the final-cut a second or third time on DOYS, but at least Noel can use stylistic theme as some kind of excuse.
1) Turn Up The Sun 2) Mucky Fingers 3) Lyla 4) The Roller 5) The Importance Of Being Idle 6) Lord Don't Slow Me Down 7) (I Wanna Live In A Dream In My) Record Machine 8) Part Of The Queue 9) Stop The Clocks 10) Boy With The Blues 11) Let There Be Love
Liam gets a track, Gem gets a track, Andy gets a track. Everyone's happy.

Soon as LTBL ends, you can unlock it by putting on some shades and (in your best John Lennon voice) whisper, " Give'm the good stuff Liam, just like I showed ya".

Nice, but I don't think The Roller was anywhere near completion during the DBTT era, nor was BWTB, which leads me to giveth thee my track listing Turn Up the Sun Mucky Fingers Lyla Pass Me Down the Wine The Importance of Being Idle Eyeball Tickler Guess God Thinks I'm Abel Part of the Queue Lord Don't Slow Me Down (Liam) Keep the Dream Alive (shortened, with something to make the vocals smoother) Let There Be Love (crossfaded into the last track below) I Can See it Now (Can Y'See it Now?) Top notch album there, and plus, you have Stop the Clocks, Boy With the Blues, and Record Machine leftover to use on DOYS.

We know "The Roller" was demoed all the way back in the winter of 2000 and was recorded during Heathen chemistry. Pretty sure the HC and DBTT versions aren't far away from the one on DGSS. Sounds just how Noel described it back in 2000. Instant Karma meets T-Rex. Boy With The Blues was also recorded during DBTT but Noel says the ending wasn't right. I disagree. There even is a picture of McCartney dropping by the studio while recording that song.

There even is a picture of McCartney dropping by the studio while recording that song. Would love to see that picture, honestly! I've yet only read about that visit. Regarding BWTB, I believe that Noel actually liked the ending (they could have edited it anyway) and that basically the missing chorus prevented it from being the a-side of that EP that should not be. However, I think that Lord Don't Slow Me Down is the only single worthy leftover material from that period. And I also prefer the Noel version because it was completely out of Liam's vocal range at this point. Could have been a great release to accompany the release of the movie: 1. Lord Don't Slow Me Down 2. Boy With The Blues 3. Record Machine (Liam vocal) 4. The Good Rebel 5. Ain't Got Nothin' 6. Stop The Clocks (Liam & Noel vocals) I also wonder if they really tried to record The Roller for DBTT. All we know is that it was written and probably demoed in 2000/2001 (with Noel on drums, that's all he could remember). It's a shame they couldn't manage to record it properly, I think every record MK2 made would have profited by its inclusion, especially Heathen Chemistry.
