Just came on my IPod, I haven't heard it in at least a year, what a belter. The way Liam sneers in the choruses harks back to the real glory days. Epic vocal, probably the best solo in a Noel tune since Be Here Now as well. Should have been a single really. In fact I think I'm going to listen again.

It's ridiculous that neither Bag it Up or The Turning were played live on the DOYS tour. A significant chunk of the crowd at the DOYS gigs were probably unaware of arguably the best 2 songs on the album as a result!

Errrm At the Birmingham show I went to during the DOYS tour I was surrounding by people that only got excited for the likes of wonderwall and DLBIA. Barely anyone seemed to know recognise even the best songs from DOYS eg Waiting for the rapture and Falling Down. Playing them live would certainly have caused more fans to buy the album, that much is definite. Instead we got Ain't Got Nothin What a terrific advert for the new album!

The verses and instrumental sections are really good but I always find the chorus lacking in something.

this song along with TSOTL were the last truly great Oasis rockers.
The Turning is my favorite song on DOYS. I really really like the intro, finally some new textures and sounds with the keys and the bass. Great harmonies in there, a ripper of a chorus, and it actually has a guitar solo! I dig the Dear Prudence outro and Noel's "shake your rag doll baby" part. Really nice guitar work in there as well.
This was the type of song that I was hoping Oasis would make post 00. I'm glad they did it, but I wish there were more songs constructed by the fabric that made this song. The song is different but still 100% Oasis and in its 5 minutes the song shifts and explores its boundaries but it never out stays its welcome. I feel Noel and the band really realized the full potential of this song, its a damn shame they couldn't do it consistently.

You just said that "barely anyone seemed to know recognise even the best songs from DOYS eg Waiting for the rapture and Falling Down" So it wouldn't have mattered if they played The Turning or Bag It Up live too. They still wouldn't have known them if your recollection of the night is right. Also, typically people buy albums before they buy concert tickets unless they are scrounging for money, in which case they'd either pick concert or album. Birmingham happened after the album released, so I don't think including Bag It Up or The Turning would have improved album sales very much at that point. In fact, it's more likely that people would buy the album to hear the songs that weren't being played live.

Very true. Come On Outside has a lot of promise in its demo form. I actually think it would fit nicely on DBTT for some reason, but it probably was written after it came out. I would have liked to see how the band would've beefed it up. It sounds good with Noel and I'm not 100% sure Liam could handle it (but the refrain screams for a Noel/Liam harmony) but I would like to hear a final version sometime.

Dig out your sould was a pretty solid album: The turning The Shock Of The Lightning Falling Down I'm Outta Time To Be Where Theres Life Ain't got nothin Soldier on Its one of their best albums imo and it appeals to the 'older generation' who aren't into Liams voice of Definitely Maybe. But ye, The turning is a good song

It's an awesome tune, when I heard Bag It Up followed by this, my expectations were sky high for DOYS,
It's the closest Oasis ever got to sounding like BHN again

It was a return to what Oasis was. Liam singing Noel's songs. The decline really started when they moved away from that. Liam would get the lead single to sing and perhaps one other, Noel would sing the rest of his songs leaving Liam the subpar songs written by himself, Andy and Gem. I know that's a slight generalisation but it's still largely true and I think why the general public fell out of love with the band.

Good song, last really awesome vocals by Liam... RASPY. "Will you be BAAA MA SIIDEEEEEEEE" Nice.
Liam was in incredible form in 2008, 'Lord Don't Slow Me Down' is good example.

YES!!!! If Oasis ever return... I want a "classic" Oasis album.... Gem and Andy playing would be fine.... BUT all the songs should be written by Noel (maybe 1 Liam song, if it is amazing) and 80%-90% of the songs sung by Liam.

Something tells me that if Liam truly nailed this vocal it would have appeared on DBTT. Noel said the only reason it didn't was because he sang on it thus making DBTT feature too many songs sung by him.

One of the first things I said about DOYS when it came out was that it was BHN done properly. By that, I meant we had the full sound back - after the stripped down DBTT (which I liked), and the lackluster HC - but it wasn't bloated.

TURN UP THAT 50 PIECE CHOIR NOEL YOU CAN BARELY HEAR IT! I'm sure that everyone knows about my anti-Dave Sardy rants on here that as a result there is probably genuine concern for his safety, but in all honesty, this was his fault too. Noel said in an interview that he was disappointed that the choir weren't mixed higher. The fact that this and Bag It Up - two very good tunes - weren't played live tells us it was high time for Oasis to call it a day. Not playing the best songs on your new album and conveniently 'forgetting' about Live Forever, and the state of Liam's voice, would be enough for me to demand my money back.

DOYS sounds like listening to the album behind a closed door. Be Here Now sounds like every guitarist went to the top of Everest and turned up the amps. I prefer that.

I think The Turning (along with Bag it Up) are the perfect (or should have been) poster children for DOYS. Those songs embody the best of what that album had to offer and acheived.
