Ok, me being the ever-obsessive categorizer that I am, I'm always making mixes of albums and things (as far as tracks and tracklisting go) just for the sake of curiosity. So, since we have the SOTSOG demos, the released album, and the released b-sides, I figured I would make a version of the album using the tracklisting of the demos, but using the released tracks (aside from Revolution Song, of course) I swear now, SOTSOG is MUCH better in this form. I always loved the album but this really made it a great album instead of a good one. Also, I think the album has a much better flow in this configuration as well 1. Go Let It Out 2. I Can See a Liar 3. Put Yer Money Where your Mouth Is 4. Who Feels Love 5. Little James 6. Revolution Song 7. Carry Us All 8. Where Did It All Go Wrong? 9. Gas Panic 10. Full On 11. One Way Road 12. Sunday Morning Call 13. Just Getting Older 14. Cigarettes In Hell 15. Let's All Make Believe 16. Roll It Over ^I mean, look at that and tell me that doesn't make a fucking great album PS - I know Full On isn't in the demos, but it deserved to be there so I tried to put it in a fitting spot

For me, the best I can do with that era's stuff is:
SIDE A 01. Let's All Make Believe 02. Go Let It Out 03. Sunday Morning Call 04. Who Feels Love? 05. Cigarettes In Hell
SIDE B 06. Fuckin' In The Bushes 07. Where Did It All Go Wrong? 08. Gas Panic! 09. Just Getting Older 10. Roll It Over
Not the same league as the first two albums, but I feel it has a more consistent tone than the official SOTSOG track list. LOVE having 'Let's All Make Believe' as an opener as I feel it sets the tone, and definitely prefer the 3 b-sides to the 3 tracks I've swapped out (Put Yer Money Where Yer Mouth Is, I Can See A Liar, Little James). Fuckin' In The Bushes to kick off side 2 feels nice as well.
In truth, I'm not a massive fan of Sunday Morning Call or Who Feels Love (and actually have a bit of a soft spot for I Can See A Liar, awful lyric aside) but I'd certainly favour the above to the official track list.

1. Fuckin' In The Bushes - Great tune, great opener. Love it 2. Go Let It Out - Lot's of sentimental value to this tune, for me. 3. Who Feels Love - Groovy and a nice way to slow down a fairly fast paced opener 4. Revolution Song - Liam on vocals, though... 5. Where Did It All Go Wrong - When I think of this album I think of this song.. it gets shit but i love it. 6. Let's All Make Believe - One of the most inspired pieces of work by Noel from around this time 7. Gas Panic - THE most inspired piece of work by Noel from around this time!! 8. One Way Road - Paul Weller's favourite tune and one of mine, too 9. Full On - See 4 10. Roll It Over - This song gives me chills
If you look at my history you will see that I love (well, strongly like) Little James and have obviously not included it. I think that if Little James was a B-Side then it would be a lot more respected. I think that this is the best compilation that SOTSOG could be!
Great thread!!

It's extremely hard to change the presentation of SOTSOG because Noel sang so many album tracks and b-sides. By adding more of them, it becomes a Noel dominated record. If anything, this album needed more Liam sung songs.

I like warewolf's order. As good as the flow from GLIO to Who Feels Love is, they're both lengthy and you really need a breather after the two. I just don't get the infatuation with Let's All Make Believe! Innane lyrics, and just bad! And Little James definitely a B-side! Heck, D-side! Noel must cringe whenever he hears that on the proper album. Oasis has few bad songs, but these are them. Well, those and Born on a Different Cloud!

not a lot of rock n roll going on in them days, still would make a nice album

If anything, this album needed more Liam sung songs. Very true. I've tried doing this before and am always a good couple of tracks short. My favourite songs from this era are the following: Go Let It Out Let's All Make Believe Carry Us All Gas Panic Where Did It All Go Wrong? Roll It Over There's some great tunes in there but too much of the rest just feels like filler. I'm not as big a fan of Cigarettes in Hell and Full On as other people are - although Liam singing the latter would help. FITB is decent but it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the album. Despite what he's said since, I still think Noel was only a couple or three songs away from a really strong record. In my book SOTSOG in its original form was still an improvement on Be Here Now. It's a bit different and somewhat darker to the other Oasis albums. It's like their Empire Strikes Back.

Ok, forget that point for a moment and its still fucking great Hell, Joey Ramone only sang half of the last few Ramones album splitting duties with CJ, the bassist, so why not pretend Noel and Liam did the same? haha In other words, shhhh....no words...only dreams..... Also, I've always thought Sunday Morning Call would sound good with Liam on vocals, so lets pretend....

The Little By Little demo was recorded in this period was it not?

The Little By Little demo was recorded in this period was it not? As was Force of Nature, and Idler's Dream. For Noel to keep on saying he had a lack of material for that album is proving to be utter nonsense. For what it's worth 1. Fuckin' In The Bushes 2. Go Let It Out 3. Who Feels Love 4. Force of Nature 5. Revolution Song 6. Gas Panic 7. Let's All Make Believe 8. Little By Little 9. Idler's Dream 10. Where Did It All Go Wrong 11. Just Getting Older 12. Roll It Over That's going on the best songs, now who sung them of course.

If I could do something different and completely change the way Oasis released their songs and waited a few more years till this album was released.
I'd have waited to release some b-sides and put them on SOTSOG instead:
1) Fucking in the bushes 2) Go let it out 3) The Hindu Times 4) Who feels love 5) The Masterplan 6) Songbird 7) Stop crying your heart out 8) Little by little 9) Gas Panic 10) Roll it over
Other b-sides should have been on Be Here Now (like acquiesce)

Here's what I'd do. 1. Fuckin in the Bushes 2. Go Let It Out 3. Who Feels Love? 4. Put Yer money Where Yer Mouth Is 5. Carry Us All 6. Gas Panic 7. Where Did it all go Wrong? 8. Sunday morning Call 9. Let's All Make Believe 10. Roll It Over I really don't mind Little James at 5 either, its got a great vocal.

Made this as a playlist on iTunes actually last week and it works damn well as an album. It doesn't matter that there's only nine tracks, it's still got some length to it at 44 minutes and it basically mirrors Let It Bleed by The Stones with track 6 and the closer both being over six minutes.

Nice mix. I always felt the original SOTSOG was always missing one key track. Ten songs was too few especially since Fucking In The Bushes was an instrumental and Noel sang two tracks. You have Liam Gallagher in the band.............unleash the beast!

You have Liam Gallagher in the band.............unleash the beast! hahaha my thoughts exactly, especially with how Liam still sounded at this point, you can hear on Let's All Make Believe and Roll It Over those world famous pipes still in great condition but that's where Noel was at that point in time I suppose, writing solemn ballads reflecting on his the mental Morning Glory/Be Here Now years of drug use. This was really the only way I can see of spinning it, even at nine tracks it's still a bit heavy on the slower numbers but I think Oasis could have released this after Be Here Now and it would have been a great follow-up to their 90's work, no shockers with Little James and I Can See A Liar absent. Sure it'd have only been nine new tracks but had the boys not already given us enough over the last few years with three immense albums and more b-sides than you've had hot dinners? It's just consitency that was the issue with all their albums (bar DBTT perhaps) post Be Here Now

Not to get off topic, but while we're on the subject, I really think the Ramones later albums are unfairly criticized sometimes At least %75 of the time the songs were consistently good from one album to the next and I actually feel that all the various production flaws they were plagued with sometimes made the albums that much more interesting because they sounded differently from one another Adios Amigos is heavy as shit and is a damn good album. Mondo Bizarro as well. People complain that they got slick or were always trying to get a hit etc. etc., but old school rock and roll was their roots and their love and it never sounded out of place to me when they did "pop"-based songs (Pleasant Dreams album, She Belongs To Me, I Won't Let It Happen, etc.) Sucks that Animal Boy has such awful production - coulda been a great album, had good songs, kinda how End Of The Century was a bit butchered by Specter Ok, sorry bout that guys - he got me started on The Ramones and well....
