Tony McCarroll's original book title was the best I think, "The Truth, the Noel Truth, is nothing like the Truth." Was it any good? Sounds like it is negative towards Noel. Really good! I'd recommend it to any Oasis, really interesting read. I was hesitant at first as well as I didn't just want to read 250 pages of Noel-bashing but I'm glad I decided to pick it up now |

He's not the "villain", rather a all compassing dictator - but a dictator who led Oasis to be the biggest band on the planet, sometimes with ruthless decisions The list of Spartans and non-Spartans at the back was the most pathetic thing I have ever read in my life. |

I didn't care for the "Spartan" stuff, but overall it was quite a good read. Takes every opportunity to take shots at Noel, but then that's fair play after Noel doing the same to him for a decade and a half, from a much larger platform. A couple times it got too personal/petty (mentioning Guigsy's farting/Noel's penis size, of all things), and neither Tony nor his co-writer, not their editor fixed anachronisms like kids using camera phones in 1995, or getting free DVDs in Japan, or indeed being filmed "for a DVD" (Live by the Sea, which would only have been a video at the time). I realize they're supposed to be small details that add color to the anecdotes, but it doesn't take a lot of research to know that neither camera phones nor DVDs were commercially-available items in the early/mid-90s.
All in all, I loved the book mostly because it goes into some detail about the relationships within the band int he early days, and shows everyone to be a lot more threedimensional than the myth grown around the band has allowed them to be. Even the public faces of the band come off a lot more "human" than they let themselves be shown to be, especially Liam, who shows himself to be a lot smarter than the general public (and indeed, himself) give him credit for. |
