Consider The Lilies - Iain Crichton Smith A novel about the Highland Clearances - a state atrocity bizarrely neglected in Scotland and not just the rest of the U.K. Instead all we got in school was fucking Braveheart and William Wallace as if that was more relevant.

There is never any end to Paris. And then Hemingway punched me in the mouth.

The Hacienda - How Not To Run A Club - Peter Hook. X A hilarious cautionary tale, I read it as soon as it was released 10 years ago & wasn't disappointed; I plan to re-read it sometime. They could, & should, make a great TV series out of this story.

I read it immediately after and it was interesting to get someone else’s perspective. Hooky focuses on the Hacienda and New Order obviously, but Wilson talks more widely about Factory, the Happy Monday’s etc. Be warned he has quite a pretentious writing style though, it can grate. X

X No, not read that one. By pretentious writing style, do you mean as overwrought as Morrissey's autobiography? That's stodgy reading.

Not read Morrissey’s autobiography so can’t compare but I imagine 24 Hour Party People is a doddle in comparison. Every chapter is a two page snack. I read it in a couple of days. Wilson just loves to remind you he went to Cambridge and is always referencing old poets and reminding you you should read more. It’s done as a joke you may find it funny, you may find it annoying, definitely worth the gamble it’s £2 in HMV. X

Dave Navarro & Neil Strauss - Don't Try This at Home: A Year in the Life of Dave Navarro As far as rock biographies go it is a good one. The good, the bad and the ugly plus the light at the end of the tunnel. It gives an interesting insight into Dave's messed up drug and drink and women times, his many OD's and how, at a point he was first pressed to go into rehab, escaped, then went of his own free will. There are many true rock'n'll excessive and debauched moments in the book, a cast of famous musicians as well as more tender moments.

I used to be quite disgusted at the idea of reading more than one book at once, but at the moment I'm going through these three simultaneously and enjoying all of them the better for it: - The Book of Dust Volume One: La Belle Sauvage by Phillip Pullman - The Collected Short Stories of Ernest Hemingway - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams And for the aesthetic, this one has the best cover:

A Confederacy Of Dunces. X How did you like it? I started reading it a few months ago, it's been shelved for some time as I started reading other books in between, I'll have to go back to it to finish it someday (200 pages left).

Christine by Stephen King How does it compare to the movie? Want to read. Haven't seen the movie but I loved the book.
He writes in a way that makes you want to keep reading all night long.
