One thing I haven't seen mentioned that should be - it's really, really good that this got played on Morning Become Eclectic. This is not the show for derivative, go by the rulebook, commercial music. It's for music lovers (and those that know a LOT about music). You won't get on here with something that is generic, and people that listen to the show could care less if it is a hit. One thing about the U.S. - you can have a long, successful career and never make the charts. There are many artists that can tour large venues, put out well-received lps, and have long careers and do quite well and you'll never hear them on the radio. I completely agree about Morning Becomes Ecletic. It's a truly great music program. I've listened to loads of their studio sessions - Cat Power, Ed Harcourt, Niel Finn, Lisa Germano etc. They give as much chance to less-known musicians as to well-known musicians. I used to listen and record the session quite often in past.

The more I listen to it, the shitter it gets. Absolutely average at the very best. No imagination and shite lyrics. Rubbish altogether. FACT.This should result in an insta-perma-ban And why's that? Because you disagree and can't handle two mild little expletives? Get a grip FFS.

Seriously love the lyrics: "Woke up this morning, I was laid out flat on the dark side, with the moon in the room on the wrong side" ! Awesome.

Listened to it earlier on for the first time thought it was decent. Had a few cans of beer and came back listened to it again, sounded unbelievable like Liam's voice was coming out at me. Love the whole song and the little quote at the end.

No one else seems to have picked up on it yet but that Mick Lynham bloke who works at RCA records has tweeted that FOTF isn't the single, just an album track. Actual single is called Kill Switch. Make of that what you will...

Make of that what you will... I've just seen this now. I'm confused, this means Zane Lowe will be playing ''Kill Switch'' on his show 'cause I distinctly remember him saying ''that single is incredible''...?? I dunno. Cool name for a track if it's true. Who is this Mick Lynham anyway and what are his connections to the band?

Say he's heard the album and all of his info, admittedly not much, has been solid so far so I'm inclined to believe him. So yeah, guess Kill Switch is the track Zane will play, which I'm very happy about if true. Love FOTF but straight away it never felt like a single. His twitter is @micklynham if you want to check him out.

The last line is "unitl they can with a flick of their finger tear a million of you to pieces" which sounds an aweful lot like a reference to a Kill Switch... How do we know this tune is called Flick of the Finger anyway?

On the radio link, at 21:29 , they said the name track, Flick of the Finger. www.kcrw.com/media-player/mediaPlayer2.html?type=audio&id=mbeBy the way, on the radio they said "little preview", they don't say new single.

Exactly I agree. If the show if slightly high brow / proper music show a random less commercial track is what they would play.
I know the NME are shit but they don't mention the word single anywhere. They don't even imply its the same track that got played be Andy or being played on radio etc

Gonna be brutally honest now... I think that if this is anything to judge the album by, they'll break up by Summer 2014.

Well I have listen to it and my impression is that it could be an OK album track and I'd be intrigued if it were a taster because it shows an interesting direction in the production...but it's not that great a song. It suffers from the same songwriting complaints that I had about DGSS. There is nothing new past 1:15. No a song doesn't NEED a big chorus (although I confess I love a good chorus and and interesting bridge) but you have to do something else instead. You can't just take a song pull out the chorus and call that innovation in format.
I think the production is interesting. I think the inclusions and use of trumpets is great.
I like the lyrics but I think the vocal line is boring and Liam sounds nasally. I like the melodic line better when it's played by the brass so I wonder if they ever considered just making it instrumental and shorter.
I think the lyrics are interesting and the sample at the end is interesting but I am confused about how they connect. The lyrics are about picking yourself up and moving on after a failure. The sample seems to be a post-modern warning about accepting the manufactured consent of the masses and accepting the status quo. The inclusion of that clip after those lyrics is incongruous to me. Seems to me a blantant attempt to seem deep and interesting.
I think Andy wrote the tune because the lyrics are right up his alley. Liam's tend to be more basic and Gems tend to be more vague. I can imagine these lyrics coming from the same pen as FLW
Surprised that there is nothing interesting going on with the guitars considering they have two really good guitar players.
I like the drums and guitars coming in at 1:14 though.
All in all. It's OK. Don't think I'll convert anyone with it which I think is the measure of a good single. Even album based bands need to have a tune to get people to check out the album. Concerned that this is the best they had for their first single. Not much of a hook. Hopefully the single released with the album is catchier. I am looking forward to seeing what Sitek did with them though.

That is, quite possibly, the shittest song I've heard all year. Very happy to hear you finally got off Muse and Kasabian. I definitely like it, sounds very different from anything Oasis has ever done and the melody is good too. Lacks the chorus to be a hit single or anything, but if that's the direction BDI are taking I'm happy.
