John Lennon - Stand By Me Oasis - I Am The Walrus Beady Eye - Gimme Shelter (controversial, I know. Mick Jagger's voice is horrible) No offense but are the last two a joke? I Am The Walrus is one of the most unique songs ever recorded (way ahead of it's time) and Gimme Shelter is one of the most iconic songs of the 1960s. I couldn't imagine a live soundcheck version of I Am The Walrus or a live Beady Eye version of Gimme Shelter beating those legendary tunes out.

I feel like Ryan Adam's version of Wonderwall suits the theme/emotion of the song better. Are you for real man?

Well I suppose I'd put Oasis about equal to The Beatles for I Am The Walrus, purely for the energy put into it and the colossal outro - that's a credit to both and not an insult to The Beatles. Gimme Shelter is such a difficult one. I fully understand and acknowledge the absurdity of rating Beady Eye above the Stones - musically the latter are superb but it's Jagger's voice and live act that just doesn't do anything for me at all. It's not just an annoyance, it's barely even tolerable - hard to say knowing the backlash that'll cause but it has to be said.

I know what you mean, I'm a fan of the Stones myself, but I know Mick Jagger isn't a great singer at all. He's seen as a great frontman because he's a showman, but if you don't like the strutting and all that, there's really nothing there. I like his voice because it's got attitude and confidence (but, crucially, not arrogance) in it - a bit like Ian Brown. But you have to not mind his voice to get it I suppose.

I need to stress that I'm not criticising the Stones as a band - musically they are superb, they're revered pretty much everywhere. Vocally, Mick's voice just doesn't have that edge for me and the strutting is unnecessary and at times really cringeworthy. I'm not adhering to a Liam-only policy of concrete stillness on stage, I just don't enjoy the strutting about.

While not better the oasis version of IATW is completely different. It's the spinal tap version turned up to 11.

That album is probably my favorite of theirs but it's hard for me to listen to that song. Had a dog named Molly we put down last year and that song bums me out now. I use to think the lyrics were mommies lips for the longest time

Nirvana always seem done better covers In The Pines "In the Pines", also known as "Black Girl" and "Where Did You Sleep Last Night", is a traditional American folk song which dates back to at least the 1870s, and is believed to be Southern Appalachian in origin. The identity of the song's author is unknown, but it has been recorded by many artists in numerous genres. Traditionally, it is most often associated with the American blues musician Lead Belly, who recorded several versions in the 1940s, as well as the American bluegrass musician Bill Monroe, who helped popularize the song (in a different variant, featuring lyrics about a train) among bluegrass and country audiences with his versions recorded in the 1940s and 1950s. The song, performed by The Four Pennies, reached the UK top twenty in 1964. A live rendering by the American grunge band Nirvana, which reinterpreted Lead Belly's version and was recorded during their MTV Unplugged performance in 1993, helped introduce the song to a new generation. Earliest and known recording. Dock Walsh - "In The Pines" in 1926 Nirvana version

I love what The Byrds have done with songs such as Mr. Tambourine Man, Turn! Turn! Turn! etc.
I can't believe anyone would prefer any cover Oasis did over the original.

They've probably been mentioned previously but:
Twist and Shout - The Beatles Anna - The Beatles Money - The Beatles All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix Step On - Happy Mondays
Sometimes I do prefer Oasis' Cum On Feel The Noize and I Am The Walrus to the originals. But not today.
