Funny thing is if 'The Beat Goes On' was written by Noel certain people's opinion of it would be very different. I have no doubt about that. Personally I think it's a good song and it's up there among Andy's best, i.e 'Turn Up The Sun', 'Four Letter Word' and 'Keep The Dream Alive' and I think he has it in him to produce an epic song and hopefully that song will turn up on the new record. Spot on mate

It'd be near a bottom of the barrel b-side. If on an Oasis record, it would be a b-side. It's a banal ballad that's middle of the pack on a basically average album. A poor song is a poor song no matter who writes it. The fact that it has to be excused as, if person A had written this song instead of B, automatically says something about the quality of the song. It usually means the song isn't good enough to stand on its own. If the Beat Goes On was a good enough song, that discussion wouldn't come up. It would stand on its own as a good song. That's your opinion mate but to me that statement is absolutely fucking ridiculous. ''Bottom of the Barrel B-side''??..... pphht! I've a few mates who are casual listeners and they think that song is the best on the album. I don't and sure it's a bit cliche but in no way is it only in the class of Noel's worst.

Yes, bottom of the barrel b-side (which isn't that much of a slight considering the b-sides Oasis released). How many album tracks would it beat out? Probably ICSAL, AGN, FON, but those are tracks that should be b-sides and would be bottom of the barrel b-sides. The Beat Goes On like much of DGSS doesn't stack up unless you say, "well it's not as bad as the worse tracks or Noel's worst". That alone says a lot about the quality of The Beat Goes On, if nothing else. If a song is good enough to stand on it's own, it doesn't need to be prop up by the poor that cam before it. And yes, it's opinion based, however there are some that believe High Horse Lady is one of the best songs on DOYS, a topic that has come up numerous times on this forum (most are casual listeners). Does that make it a good song. Erm, no. It's not even b-side material. So, it's a middle of the road track on a somewhat average album that can only be called somewhat good by looking at the worst tracks in the Oasis discography. Yep, that sounds like a high quality track if I've ever heard one.

OBJECTIVE FACT (based on surveys of people who prefer Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds over Beady Eye's Different Gear Still Speeding): Beady Eye's track "The Beat Goes On", which is track no. 12 on Beady Eye's very own album Different Gear Still Speeding, is THE WORST TRACK OF THE 21ST CENTURY. Real "bottom of the barrel" stuff!! Even slightly crappier than the Noel-penned B-side "It's Better People".
TEAM NOEL! TEAM NOEL! TEAM NOEL! TEAM NOEL!
..And down the stretch they come!! Team Noel takes the lead!! Team Liam is really losing ground!! Team Noel is really taking this lead and building on it!! all in the name of objectivity no less!!! He is really going for it now. Blasting dirt on Team Liam's face now!! ...AND TEAM NOEL TAKES IT IN A LANDSLIDE!! FIVE LENGTHS!! OH MY!!! SUPER-NOVA!!
NOH-EL! NOH-EL! NOH-EL!
Noel is a genius. With this backing, his legendary status will never waver. The infallibility of the Pope even doesn't match his. His reverence is forever cherished!!
NOH-EL! NOH-EL!
Holy Gawd!! his sycophants even "objectively" nit-picks others' songs to better his own!! Good Lard, even my dear mother wasn't this protective!!
NOH-EL! NOH-EL!

TBGO is hardly that bad. I'm in the category of those that say it's just boring and it goes on and on and on. It's just not the amazing song that I think most of us had been expecting it to be...it was hyped a lot in the lead up on this board so when it was just alright there was a bit of a backlash. Kinda like STC. It didn't meet some people's expectations and it suffers for it IMO.
It hardly EXCEPTIONALLY bad though. Compared to For Anyone (you'll find it used as an example for schmaltz one day mark my words:p) or SOTEOTN just from DGSS it's not that bad.
Underwhelmingly average is the worst I can say. Although maybe forgettably average is worse than memorably bad. haha

I actually prefer Blue Moon, but The Beat Goes On is good too. <<< one of my favorite videos. LUV andy in the space helmet was just listening to it this morning actually, has one of favorite lyrics from DGSS (see sig lol). maybe average whatever, not a masterpiece but not bad, I like it.

No more than a bottom of the barrel b-side? Come on, Christ.
The Beat Goes On is a good tune, love the little piano outro, they should of scrapped off a couple of choruses though to make it more around 3 minutes long rather than 5, it does drag a little.

Do really people on here think that The Beat Goes On is among the best tracks on DGSS?
I've always found it quite dull, maybe the third worst song on the album, after SOTEOTN and The Morning Son (god, I forgot how boring The Morning Son is!)

I think its a decent tune, its not terrible by any means. I'm still loving Four Letter Word, its a great tune and a brilliant opener. I've come back to DGSS after a fair few months not listening to it much and i'm still enjoying a few tracks on that album, as Liam admitted they probably did rush it out a fair bit. But one of my favourites is the b side 'bubble with a bullet', think thats a superb tune.
