Having read many, many comments from people claiming that Liam's voice has deteriorated over the past couple of decades as a result of drinking and smoking and age, I'm thou roughly sick of it and wish to clear it up. It's his singing stance. Plain and simple. Watch early gigs from the mid 90's and you can see how much his neck is craned upwards to reach the mike. The amount of stress singing like that places on the vocal chords and muscles of the neck is astounding (as every good Oasis fan impersonating him will know). In more recent years it's clear for all to see that he now sings more directly into the microphone, placing less stress on his neck. Noel is older than Liam and regularly drinks and smokes and yet his voice has not lost it's range or it's quality over the years. It's his stance. I know it. Wow, sounds like a who either hasn't done a lot of serious singing, doesn't understand what happens to a perfectly healthy persons voice over DECADES of serious singing, or, both. Thankfully I DO. Booze, cigarettes? Yep, they reek their havoc. But throw them out of the mix and simply add years and years of touring, singing for an hour plus 3-5 days a week and see how a HUGE sum make out by the time they're 40. Not all, mind you. Noel is one the rather "lucky" ones, but you're simply foolish if you think he sounds as good or possesses the same range he did 10 years ago. Age is ugly. Very, very, very few- outside of rock stars that remain fiercely popular for other reasons (surely you don't believe people still go to u2 shows cause bono's voice is nearly as good as it was 15 years ago?) are singing- and earning a paycheck doing it- beyond 30. No one who knows anything about singing would have EVER expected Axl Rose's voice to last 10 years, never mind 25. I do not make a living with my voice anymore...and it's a good thing, because it's about 70% of what it once was. Never smoked. Don't drink to excess and I'm in great shape. It's called AGE. It's called wear and tear. And it's called AGE. I'm sorry, but my stance on your "stance explanation" is that it is groundless and the above is a much more satiable and almost certainly correct explanation as to why Liam sounds passable to horrendous anywhere outside of a studio recording.

as people age their voice does change, too...... God bless. We have a bingo. Some worse than others, of course. Some guys also play in the NFL until they're 35. Not many.

I agree with start at the end to a point. He does struggle with long bouts of touring these day's but with his age its not a big surprise. I like what his voice has become though. It may not always work live but when he gets it right he's still the best for me.

hey START TO THE END, Liam wasn't 40 eight years go. and anyway, how can you take seriously someone who listens to Against Me and pearl jam? Yeah, I know. Pearl Jam is a completely merit-less act that won't go down as one of the defining rock bands of the last 2 decades. Go figure. Wow, sounds like we have a logical, grown-up with experience on our hands. Sigh. I suppose I could have supplied you with more as to why your baseless assertion is absurdly asinine, but I figured a brief counter that can readily be verified by, I don't know, a few hundred popular examples would suffice. But I suppose it's all in their "stances" as well. good grief. Believe what you need to believe.

Thank you for blessing us with your great knowledge. Groundless? I completely and utterly disagree with you there, however I am willing to accept that ageing will not have helped. If anything, Noel has grown more comfortable in his voice as he has taken on greater singing responsibilities and in spite of his continued smoking and drinking and his ever-increasing age. I believe whilst your explanation may be a contributing factor, to simply discard my point about his stance without explaining why it has utterly nothing to do with it, as you quite evidently believe, is foolish, and thus that you, sir, are a fool.

Why would anyone really compare Noel and Liams voices? They are completely different people who have had a completely different workload in terms of singing.

hey START TO THE END, I never said it was because of his stance, I only said your post was shit. get on with it.
stance, drugs, booze, cigs, age, everything that happens to a singer in his life - it's all connected to his voice anyway.

Liam has suffered from not being a singer. He just did what came naturally to him and that destroyed his voice. Lots of singers have smoked a lot and not lost their voice. It comes down to screaming down a microphone 200 times a year.

If not that than a couple days off between shows. When i saw Beady Eye in NYC in December 2011, his voice was shredded. Touring that record took its toll for sure. A gig too far?

I made some videos a couple of years ago to showcase his vocal change over the years. You can clearly hear how his voice changes in each "era". Take a listen, this is Wonderwall (which quite easy to sing) from 96-08:

I've always believed that he kinda lost his "growl" during 2001.

Personally I think it's way overblown his voice has changed a bit not drastic to the point of anything major,,cata is right he lost his growl. But did plant sing the same thru zep s career no fuckin way his first 2 lps were as good as it got he still was awesome but not young plant..was dal trey They all lose something off their " fastball" over time I don't wanna hear it's his stance his new teeth his anything it's he's gotten older and his voice has aged as as has the rest of him and us for that matter my voice don't sound like it did at 21 whose does? Let alone have to sing the same too much Liam being put under a microscope IMO or just stale ideas cause I seen this same topic in 05 07 09 it's just fucking age man ...deal

It's the same as when people ant understand why mick can't write street fighting man or Noel can't write slide away or even bruce write about being poor and lonely. They all got rich dont hang out in same places as gave thence that inspiration then as they age we expect mick to be gritty when he's been sipping champagne and eatin caviar staying at the ritz when they they were nobody's eatin fish and chips swigging brew and stayin in a 1 bedroom with 4 band mates 1 bed can't be done neither can singin like 96 in 13 or 06. Time and situations change our heroes fact of life stop romantisising old shit and enjoy what your hearing now it's as good as he's gonna be it only gets worse from here,I heard bruce the other day singin backstreets sounded like a different dude than in 81 or 85 or even 95 time ain't makin nobody better

That 1997 version with the loud piano has always grabbed my attention over any other version - do you have a full version of it and would you PLEASE upload it to YouTube, because I adore it.

He definitely sings better when his hands are behind his back, seems like you can get more "power" out that way, I've tried!

It's from Den Bosch in 1997. Great gig. You can download it in full here: www.rkidmedia.blogspot.se/2012/04/den-bosch-1997.html
