The problem isn't the number of songs imo. You can drop DGSS down to 10 songs and it's still got too much filler because beyond Four Letter Word and Wigwam the songs just aren't good enough.

Well its all a matter of opinion and I'd say that's rubbish. A 10 song album would have been even stronger not that I don't like what they put out anyway.

I would mostly agree. Cutting dgss down to a 10 song album would improve it, but I don't think that alone would make it a good album. It would just improve it. There's a lot wrong with dgss in my opinion. 13 songs would have been great if 10/13 were good song. 10 songs would be great if 7-8/10 song were great. But if we get a 10 song album that's only half way good, then I don't see how much difference the number of tracks will make. There was no magic bullet with dgss in my opinion. It wasn't any one thing (other than songwriting). A more forward sound, less songs, and some songs being just a little bit shorter would have made for a better album. But I don't think it would have made for a very good album, just a better one.

I'm hoping they keep it around 10-11 songs. More than 12 seems too many for any album without it being double, and I doubt that would happen even though I agree with whoever said Liam, Gem, and Andy are perfectly capable of enough songs stored up to do it. I guess at this point I'm expecting album #2 to be as good as DGSS or better, and with all the hype and new producer I am really looking forward to it.
The length of DGSS wasn't really the problem - I think it was more the inconsistency of the songwriting. Yeah, there were some good singles and a lot of album tracks I liked, but songs like Wind Up Dream, Millionaire, and Beatles & Stones are ones I always skip and rarely listen to the entire album start to finish like I can with Noel's album or Oasis's.
Given Andy's background with Ride and Liam and Gem's with Oasis, I believe they can still write some really great tunes. I'm not gonna judge album #2 until I actually have it in my hands and have listened to it (:
