It doesn't matter who produces it. I can't think of a single Gallagher album where production and choice of producer hasn't been criticised on here a year or so down the line.
Good news on the album though.

Well that is a double edged sword. If Andy writes 8-9 songs like 'Four Letter Word' and 'Millionaire' then yes. If he is going to write more songs like the cliche filled 'Kill For A Dream' and 'The Beat Goes On' then no fucking way. Yeah but Liam is almost a lost cause when it comes to songwritting imo, Gem is just Ok, Andy is the best songwritter.i can only list a quick peep as his only shit song since hes part of oasis/BE What about The Nature of Reality? If that isn't shit then I don't know what is. The Beat Goes On and Kill for a Dream are very cringeworthy in places too.

That is why they need a strong producer like Dave Sitek to tell them if an idea is good or bad. They need someone to say to them when a song like The Beat Goes On gets presented..."You can do better". Someone to push them.

They all have good songs in them but with DGSS there was far too much filler. It doesn't seem that any of them are prepared to say "that song is shit" and so instead songs like SOETON get on the album.

There is this great German producer, Markus Dravs, he has worked with Arcade Fire and Coldplay. Both bands swear by this man that he WILL make you a better band. Force you to create a special album. Win Butler and Chris Martin have both stated that their bands will spend all day on a track they feel is special only for Dravs to tear it apart and they scrap it completely. They need that type of management in the studio. Like Neil Young's lifelong producer David Briggs use to say, "Be great or be gone."

I certainly agree with your general point about producers keeping there eye on the quality control but Markus Drays had something to do with Mylo Xyloto ;D

He also played a major role with Arcade Fire winning Album of the Year at the Grammys in 2010, Coldplay collecting a boat load of Grammys in 2008 and Mumford & Sons winning a Brit Away. Say what you will about Mylo Xyloto but it did have some quality tunes (Hurts Like Heaven, Charlie Brown, Us Against The World, Major Minus). In Win Butler's opinion I trust!

I agree with you on Arcade Fire and while not a fan of Mumford & Sons I appreciate why people like them but no one will ever convince me there is a redeeming feature of Mylo Xyloto. Its utter shite.

Well just imagine if Markus Dravs didn't involve himself with production duties on Mylo Xyloto and how much worse it could have been.

Would have probably had Rebecca Black on it rather than Rhianna.

At least we all know Liam would never allow that to happen, super producer or not behind the desk.

Personally I'm hoping for a GDforever + Liam duet but its probably to much to hope for.

so what's the better album - Different Gear, Still Speeding, or Mylo Xyloto?

I agree it seems gimmicky to have Rihanna appear on a track. I would never have predicted that back in 2000 that Coldplay would have a track featuring a pop princess.

I still dislike the Rihanna track and Waterfall, but not at the level of Standing on the edge... and Beatles & stones.

I think Mylo Xyloto is more consistent than DGSS. They're both good albums, not Coldplay's best, and hopefully not Beady Eye's either.

To me the songs and production are miles better than DGSS. The singles are all really good. Hurts Like Heaven and Charlie Brown are awesome pop-rock anthems. I wish Beady Eye would have an anthem type song. Kill For A Dream and The Beat Goes On attempted this but failed miserably in my opinion. Four Letter Word is the best song they have recorded thus far. Your move Sitek!

Charlie Brown is one of the best songs of the last 15 years. Other greats from the album are Hurts Like Heaven, Paradise, Major Minus, Don't Let It Break Your Heart, and Up With the Birds. One song that should be on that album is Moving to Mars, off the Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall EP. Great song as well!

Coldplay, like latter day Oasis, have a wealth of unreleased material worthy of album status.

Not even a contest I'm afraid. Mylo Xyloto is superior to DGSS in just about every way.
