I bet I could do the 'vague' comparisons with every band that is out now with some previous band. If you have a bass, drums, a guitar or two and a singer and you play rock n roll style music then it all sounds familiar at times. How is it that pop and rap doesnt get scrutinized like Oasis does. Even Coldplay is 'inspired by' Kraftwerk or The Pogues but they never 'borrow'. coldplay openly admit to stealing or borrowing, openly, they said it in most interveiws before the release of there second album, and they admit that speed of sound it a kate bush song with different lyrics

My friends commented that POTQ and especially IOBI sound like some pink floyd song, but we couldn't think of what it is. I'm gonna listen to some of their catalouge and see if I can find what he is thinking of, but if anyone has it in their mind feel free to toss it out Pink Floyd? Hmm, I can't place it either… I think POTQ sounds a bit like this semi-hit the Red Hot Chili Peppers had about 13 or 14 years ago called "Breaking the Girl." Similar rhythm and chords. But I think it's a fairly common rhythm.

Gas Panic ! -- 'When The Levee Breaks' - Led Zeppelin: Noel said this has a heavy Led Zeppelin feel to it 'Sunflower' - Paul Weller: chorus melody is similar. 'Pictures Of Lily' - The Who: music is uncannily similarWHAT? Could someone please point out a single part of that song that resembles Gas Panic!? Yeah I'm lost there too.... a lot of those are big stretches. But the chord progression in "Married With Children" is EXACTLY the same as "She's Electric"... spot on.

Sorry for resurrecting a 10-year-old thread, but maybe we could update the complete list.
From the top of my head, there's Waiting for the Rapture - 5to1 and The Roller - Instant Karma

The DLBIA solo is copied pretty much note-for-note from Primal Scream's Damaged.

Not musical, but the La's lyric form Timeless Melody
"If you look in your mind, do you know what you will find?"
Sound familiar?

Not really borrowing but:
'(I Got) The Fever' = 'Kinky Afro' by Happy Mondays
Very similar sounding songs, though I'm sure Noel didn't do this deliberately.

The vocal melodies from "The Hindu Times" are remarkably similar to those in "All Right Now" by Free.

Go Let it Out -- similar mellotron on 'Strawberry Fields Forever' The Beatles. 'Book of Rules' by Bob Weir & The Midnites: a blatant lift of the lyrics 'Walk On Gilded Splinters' by Duane Allman & Johnny Jenkins: Jenkins is co-credited The lyrics were not lifted from Book of Rules, but rather from the poem "A Bag of Tools" by RL Sharpe: www.poetrynook.com/poem/bag-tools. IIRC, this came out when Oasis was sued at the time it it was revealed that the aforementioned song also had used that poem as inspiration. So, I suppose that in the spirit of this thread, Noel "borrowed" from the poem and not the song.
