I don't mind the beatles, kinda meh to me. Same here cata. While I acknowledge there greatness They never gave me. ME The chills or the urge to play. I completely agree, I'm glad you and @catatouille have said it, it feels like you can't really say the beatles are anything but amazing and the best band ever and so on or people shoot you down but I really don't see how people consider pretty much every album they did as 10/10, I respect a lot of their stuff for being ahead of its time but they did some real dross as well, especially near the end imo

Couldn't agree more. @catatouille said it i just seconded so she gets credit for the balls not me. I love the guys here but you can't really have a debate and I stopped arguing. So the Beatles are the best , most influential , most innovative , most creative , just check what applies and it's there's. ....at least on here

I'm fascinated by the culture that surrounds them, how novel it was for the time, how crazy the fans got over it, it was insane. the actual music? great for the time. early rock 'n roll, can't deny its legacy and influence in just about everything I listen to. but the music in itself, without the history a lot of the Beatles' music is kind of "meh", I agree @catatouille theyknowwhatimean kalas. but taking the whole legacy it is something special and unique and that's why I do enjoy listening

I love the Beatles and one of the things i admire most about them is that all the members sang lead vocals on certain songs - which is rare, and most of those songs are really fucking good.
not to mention every member had a successful solo career..... a lot of collected talent there.
God bless.

God bless. oh yeah, that's a great point Robert Van Winkle. "With a Little Help from My Friends" for one, love hearing Ringo. I actually had to argue with my mom that the Beatles did that song before Joe Cocker lol

He just pointed out that the mere mention of a Beatle reference not prefaced with best seems to draw ire

Tk put it best cata just said what me and him think first I'm one of them that think they're the best band ever, mostly because of what they produced and how much the evolved in the short space of a decade, they do have a lot of average stuff (Revolution 9s probably the only one I'd call shit) but the have a lot of songs like A Day In The Life and Strawberry Fields where you could say they're one of the best songs ever written. And it amuses me that after 50 odd years that people are still trying to figure out the opening chord of A Hard Days Night. I prefer The Velvet Underground though.

God bless. honestly? I've never listened to those records all the way through. need to. but Beatles music is like a pain to get ahold of, if you're not pirating. can't afford iTunes man, prefer digital for most things but eventually I'll break down and start on cd's I guess

See I won't comment on this after this cause I know Bruno will have a say I agree on there greatness no need to defend tk merely said anything but they are the absolute best is met with derision. ...so why bother ..I could have easily not commented as I have realized its pointless thus will not acknowledge this anymore but after cata said it and tk put himself out there I didn't want him swinging solo I love them think they are a great band , I prefer zep. But that's cool the difference is you can criticize zep here. And get no response even mention the Beatles aren't the best and watch out , that all tk was saying. , and I am done with this I only said this much so tk wasn't alone and cata.

God bless.

curious - do any of you guys play musical instruments? God bless. if you walked into any musical instrument shop that doesn't have stupid fucking kids in it working and said the Beatles were, "meh" - they'd probably give you a cheap acoustic guitar, a guitar tuner and the Beatles Complete Scores for free and tell you to go discover a whole new world..... God bless.

It is astonishing how many albums they produced in such a short a short amount of time and the variation and experimentation later on whilst keeping the sheer quality but I suppose it is to be expected as they had the McCartney-Lennon writing partnership who have proven in the beatles and separate solo careers that they were perhaps two of the best songwriters to ever live in very different ways. Of course they had George Harrison chipping in as well who was very underrated for a long time so it's no surprise they carried on producing quality but all the experimenting was years ahead of it's time, sometime it worked (A Day In The Life) sometimes it really, really didn't (Revolution 9). I respect them for having the balls to do it before everyone else but they did make some dreadful stuff which is why I, like kalas think some of the beatles is a bit meh

Yeh, some of the stuff from A Hard Days Night and Help was pretty good but they were on fire on Rubber Soul and Revolver when there were taking some drugs to "improve creativity" but it hadn't totally taken over like in some of Lennon's later stuff
