This is what I was responding to. It does sound different and it does lose a bit of something. Just as every performance of Wonderwall is not the same as a performance that preceded it. Ex. Glastonbury 2004 sounds "different" from Jools Holland 2000, Maine Road 1996, or the Ryan Adams-esque rendition that NG trots out. It can be easily proven, using empirical evidence, that one version is "different" from another. However, is is your OPINION that the BE rendition "loses something". This cannot be proven. Don't try to state that you were referring to the approx. 10-15 seconds of echoing backing vocals. Everyone knows you were referring to the lack of NG's etheral presence (for the record, I love NG. Hell, my wife and I name our son Noel!). There are many on this forum and in this world who think the performance not only didn't "lose something" but actually offered an improvement over past renditions. Can this be proven as fact? No. It is an OPINION. PS - Please stop citing the issue that the backing track was pre-recorded as some form of negative criticism. Every act was required to pre-record their backing tracks due to amplification issues. BE is more than capable of replicating the song for live performance (it is NOT a difficult song to play) and it is obvious that the recorded track was a new performance as indicated by slightly different timing issues within the drums, and a better bass performance (sorry Guigsy). |

So did every live version until this one. Think you'll find not "every" version did. No-one done backing vocals when your hero, Noely G walked out of the 2000 tour. Or am I just being picky? If you are going to continue debating about backing vocals then go and start a thread in the Oasis section or start a poll so you and Truefaith can argue over that but do us all a favour, both of you, stop ruining a great thread. |
