What's the deal with this song then? If i remember correctly it was available on Amazon just before the album came out, is that right? and wasn't that some sort of mistake as well? It was available for a day or something and then taken down?
Is it freely available on the download sites now?
Why hasn't it been given a physical release?
Why has Noel never mentioned it (unless i'm mistaken?)
It's quite good isn't it? Better than Dream on anyway...

I believe it was a bonus track supplied via Amazon when you bought HFB from it. Noel has never mentioned it because nobody has ever asked him. Same applies to LTLSALDOM, ASGOG and PYET. So far he has only really commented on The Good Rebel. I'm sure if a journalist ask, he will answer.

On the one hand, it's too good to waste as a bonus track that half his fans probably aren't even aware of. On the other, we'd moan if he released it instead of a b-side we'd not already heard.
For me, it's a better realised One Way Road and easily good enough for the album. But, like A Simple Game of Genius, I don't know where it fits.

For me I always thought A Simple Game of Genius would have been a nice way to end the album. For whatever reason, I'm not that in love with the finished version of Stop The Clocks. Sounds way too artificial. The mellotron in the song sounds way too polished. Maybe it should have been a hidden track 5-8 minutes after ASGOG ends.

Well it's a finished song. It's a great song and it's not gonna be a b-side now. I would bet it'll be on the next album. However I also love the fact we have this song & questions about it, lets keep it that way for now.

It has been officially released though. It was a bonus track in Germany if you bought of amazon I think. Can't see it ending up on an album at any point.

Funnily enough this song was released, mysteriously and out of nothing, on a day where I got the phone call that condemned the darkest days I've had since I've moved away. I saw it and before hearing it I got that phone call. And then I heard it. I mean, it's quite obvious that it was released just to save me - Noel was quite clearly speaking to me once again. ;D

It's also available on the US Amazon Exclusive digital release, for some reason.

This is one of the best songs Noel has written in the past 12 years. More of this please. It's got that dreamy, atmosphere and elegance that I kinda wished IIHAG had. Blissful.

Actually wasn't too crazy about this song when it came out, but it has grown on me a lot and has quickly risen up the ranks of Noel's best. I'd definitely put among the upper echelon of songs that Noel has written post 2000.

Alone on the Rope is much better than 75% of the whole HFB album.

Noel does Coldplay better than Coldplay. Seriously, AOTR could easily slot into Coldplay's debut album. Just saying.

Its the best track w/ Noel vox that he has recorded since DLBIA and the best of the HFB era so far. To sell more via that distribution method in that particular store. Thats the whole point of exclusive bonuses. I don't know why anyone is surprised by this. Acquiesce, Talk Tonight, The Masterplan, etc. were all b-sides originally. Noel has regularly left some of his best material to secondary releases or they're songs that were recorded after the album is complete. The bonus track craze is a byproduct of digital distribution and its intention is purely to get you to double dip if you've bought the physical, as normally you can't get bonus tracks without buying the whole thing. Luckily, the gods like to fuck things up in our favor when it concerns Oasis and related digital releases. Amazon has digital exclusivity for a certain amount of time to keep pumping sales through their MP3 store. For how long is anyone's guess and it likely depends on sale volume. Its probably got nothing to do with Noel decision-wise as its likely written into the record company's deal with Amazon and he probably doesn't give a shit anyway.

It does have great atmosphere. The production is perfect.
When it appeared out of nowhere on the Internet...that truly was an amazing day to be a fan. Played it to death for days.
I love the feel of it.
