My letter was in NME this week, and the way they replied was very snobbish... And I think it just proves they are very Pro-Noel/ Anti-Liam.... I'm not personally Anti-Either brother, I love them both, but Liam gets a great deal of respect from me... Just want to know what you lot think on the matter My original letter: Hi NME. I'd like to start my letter with saying that I admire Liam Gallagher and the rest of Beady Eye. I think the public and media can be way too harsh on the man and I think it's time everyone cut him a bit of slack. The man had his band of 18 years split up, but he's decided to carry on making music. And it's good music. He could have just sat on what he had and just let Pretty Green carry on, but instead he's done something for his fans and formed Beady Eye. Now we get to the point. He's done this in full passion for music, but so many people seem to hate him for it and say things like "give up because Noel is better". But I really admire his courage. Not only did Noel's album completely outsell Beady Eye's, but Noel went on to arrange dates for the O2 Arena, while Liam, Gem, Andy and Chris are still playing Brixton Acadamy and (ironically) the Oasis Leisure Center. But what people seem to forget is that many people are seeing Noel not for his solo work, but also for the Oasis songs. And Beady Eye really deserve credit for not playing these songs. Finally, I'd just like to add, I saw Beady Eye at Brixton on Thursday and it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to, and I think it would be very hard to top. I love Noel, I love Liam. But people need to give Liam some slack.

How was that snobbish? That seemed extraordinarily respectful to me.

Tom I get your point. At times I do feel these music rags are biased against BE/Liam. Ppl may say Liam's a loud mouth dick, but I applaud him for begin HONEST and having the biggest set of balls out there stating what he feels. some ppl just cant handle the truth. Being around ppl that work in various parts of the Industry, my partner being one of them, I've seen this game. If you go along with the crowd, you're working and there's plenty of back patting and praise. If you go against it which, in a way Liam tends to by calling ppl out, the industry turns on you to a certain extent. Morrissey actually has a massive lawsuit against the NME. Back in the day, Moz pissed the wrong person off, NME retaliates and brands Morrissey a racist. This whole smear job has been on going for years. IDK how, but Moz found out from inside sources that a recent interview he'd done with NME was altered maliciously on purpose to raise the racist issue against him again. Morrissey vows to bring down and expose the NME once and for all. Point being, not just the NME but many music publications, they bring you up only to slam you down and generally write ANYTHING true or not to sell papers. pay no mind to them.
K+ for getting your letter published. I felt it was well writen, not snobished, they just gave you a half-assed reply.

Thanks, Jilliam! The NME are quite foul... They posted a story a few months back that said Tom Meighan had cancelled a Kasabian tour, and told them at the Brit Awards... And he didn't even go to them!!!! I was quite disappointed with the answer, but they-ho! It's something that I can put on my CV! LOL

i don't think there's anything wrong with their response. their points hold a lot of water and aren't irrational by any means.

Congrats on getting published, thats an accomplishment. I agree with you about BDI .They did respond decently to your letter, but I know what you mean about the generally dismissive attitude towards BDI.

Thank you for doing that Tom.
I read it and I thought it was about time that someone stuck up to the snobby readers and journos of NME showed a bit of support for Beady Eye. Surprised that they printed it to be honest.

i too get what you're saying dude.... like someone else said, it could've been much worse(their response). i agree that they totally missed the point you were making. The fact of the matter is indeed that a good portion of the people going to Noel's gigs are just there to listen to the Oasis songs, that's indisputable(unless you're a fanboys of course) and you can totally tell by just watching the many videos of the gigs on youtube.

I tend to agree with their response too.
I basically had this conversation with myself earlier when I read your question and their response:
Would I have gone to Beady Eye if they didn't consist of former members of Oasis (AKA they were a complete new band)? Probably not. Does this mean I went to see them because of their past history with Oasis? Yes. Is there a problem with this? Not really. Did I enjoy the gig? Yes. Will I go see them again? Yes.

The fact of the matter is indeed that a good portion of the people going to Noel's gigs are just there to listen to the Oasis songs, that's indisputable(unless you're a fanboys of course) Let's break this down. 1. Only 'fanboys' wanted to here the new material, yet you praised Beady Eye for only playing BE music and no oasis. I guess that makes you a Beady Eye 'fanboy'. 2. If, it is only fanboys who want to hear the new stuff and most of the fans want to here the old stuff, as you suggest... why would you have a problem with Noel playing old stuff?

I agree with you, I don't know if it's because of Liam's so-called 'arrogant' arrogance that the media take a dislike to him but they rarely seem to be on his side. I love Noels HFB material, but I am also seeing him twice next year cause he will play Oasis songs. I have already seen Beady Eye and thought they were class, they don't need to have Oasis songs in their sets but maybe it would tempt other people into going.

They kinda ignored the point I was making... Honestly, who goes to a Beady Eye gig hoping they will play Oasis songs? Especially after they said they won't... I thought this too until Terminal 5 on Friday night. I was around a bunch of people who kept shouting...... "PLAY ONE WE KNOW!"
"PLAY WONDERWALL!"
"PLAY SUPERSONIC!"It got tiring.

And btw, NME was totally right. If DGSS were just a new band, there is no way in hell I would've gone to the NYC show. And this from someone who likes the album. Why didn't I go to see a bunch of other bands who came through town whose albums I also liked? Let's face it, I only went to the BDI show because I loved Oasis. And I think most folks, if they were being honest, would say the same thing

I am impressed by lgfaver's capability to make this thread somehow related to fanboys. People go to Noel's gigs because he was in Oasis and he played old tunes, yes. The same could applied to BDI as well, people go to see BDI because they want to see Liam. Why not?
