The album is good however it isn't *THAT* good. We say its great, the best since BHN or WTSMG but, in reality it isn't. Its a slow album and not really my cuppa. It does have 5/6 good songs, the rest are fastforwardable fillers. Both L&N have an established fan base that will buy/enjoy anything they put out, so I would have been ok with Noel taking five fucking years off and put out STELLAR tunes, instead playing the rat-race and putting out mediocre material for the sake of "Oh my wife was tired of seeing me doing shit around the house" malarkey. Fuckin artist these days, "oh we wont be relevant, we'll miss the boat" mumbo-jumbo. Oasis/L&N are no longer "flavors of the month" who need to pull these types of shenanigans, they're established and will be relevant whenever they decide to put new material out. I don't want quantity, I want QUALITY! And that's why this album wont be "critically acclaimed". You don't half talk some fucking shit.

Slating something based upon a theory about what you will think about the product in a year?
Seriously? How do you justify criticising something based on longevity when it's been out less that 5 weeks?
And bullshit that ANYONE on this board would have been happy with Noel putting the album off for 5 years, even you jilliam. And if you REALLY believe that Noel only made the album because his wife told him too...I have some ocean front property in Arizona that I am willing to see you for a steal of a deal.
And this is the best critically received Gallagher related album in a decade according to metacritic. It's the only one on Metacritic without even 1 negative review. Even the Uncut review that everyone bleats about realistically registers as mixed. It's highest score is higher than any Oasis album for a decade (I don't know...but when is the last time that any Oasis-related album has gotten a 5/5 from a significant major publication?) and while we are at it he also has more publications reviewed as positive than the last 3 Oasis albums as well
Critically Noel has done pretty decent considering that he is coming out of a band that the critics are not predisposed to being kind to in the first place and he has lost a major selling point (Liam's voice on record is a bonus)

I probably over listened to it when it first came out and have hence become a bit bored with the album. Alone on the rope and simple game of genius are the two tracks I keep listening to.
It's a solid album and judging by ticket sales it has a commercial appeal which is clearly what Noel was going for. I bet he has some great songs in the locker, he always plays the long game.
In terms of longevity, personally eotr, iihag, tdoyam, and the two mentioned above stand out.

So this thread started off with people wondering why this great record was being under-appreciated, and by page 2, people are wondering why this halfway decent record is being over-appreciated? You guys are nuts. (Love you xx)

Is just not what they(when i say they is the ones the reviewed the album) want/need... you could apply this for almost every person in the world.

I'm not criticising all I'm saying is I can't see myself in a years time desperately wanting to hear certain tracks. I like the album I was just giving an opinion on why the album isn't critically acclaimed.

For me HFB isn't that great, it is a very good album, it lacks rock and some songs are overproduced and too soft, I am listening more Alone on The Rope and Let The Lord Shine a Light on Me than the album tracks.

The album is good, yes, but to be "acclaimed", an album has to be nearly flawless. Acclamation is a rare thing, which only albums with a big lasting potential will get. And while NGHFB works very well with a section of people with a very specific musical taste, it doesn't have the potential to define a certain musical movement, nor to be remembered as a high point of our times, musically. Basically, it's a good album, and that's why it got good overall reviews, but no great album, and that's why it was reviewed like DGSS, DBTT and DOYS, and not like recent acclaimed albums, such as My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (I'm no Kanye West fan, but I recognize the importance of this album in his segment), In Rainbows and Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. But you really shouldn't care about that, if you really liked Noel's work, just enjoy it. Listening to what sounds good to you is the most important thing.
