Over a month later, and I'm still utterly convinced that this song is a bona fide Noel Gallagher classic.
Everything about it is stunning, especially the "heart to be unbroken by the seams" part. Also love the line "I'm waiting for the moment to find me."
I, for one, like it more than the sound checked acoustic version. Even though that had it's own charm, too, I much prefer the full sound. Noel has really added depth to the songs we had heard prior, and all of them (IIHAG, EOTR, STC, RM) are better for it.
It's a masterpiece and stands nicely alongside his best work.

Yeah, I gotta agree. I had that, EOTR and WAL in my top 20. I think the album's that good.

I honestly can't get IIHAG out of my head. Love it!

The only two songs I occasionally skip are SBJF and STC

Totally agree. I like it more and more every time I hear it. Even the somewhat repetitive "ahhh, ahhhs" I've come to love. Truly a Noel Gallagher classic.

Amazing song. I'm a little disappointed that the soundcheck atmosphere hasn't been replicated in any of the live performances but the completed song as a whole is much better. Easily stands up with the best oasis songs.

I love everything about this song, and I rank it highly among Noel's other classics. The fact that we heard the soundcheck years before it was finished only makes it more special, I think. I want it played at my wedding ;D

It´s a beatiful melody in the same vein as Noel´s better melodies. Can´t be compared with the great Oasis classics because times are different now, it won´t be as important for people like Wonderwall and Don´t look back in anger were, but it´s one of those 10-15 really special songs Noel has come up with those years.

The Letterman performance sealed it for me. Great song. I recorded this, since the NGHFB's Philly gig was the next day and I had to get up early. Watched it a million times, and love it even more each time. My son, hereafter referred to as "Little Noel" (lol), keeps asking to watch it. He keeps saying, "I want me!" or "Same as me!" In his three year old speak, he's requesting to watch Noel G. But everytime I hear this song, it gets further and further imbedded into my mind. I don't think it's quite Masterplan caliber, but I'm hooked on the lyrics, and the melody.

The structure is killing it. Almost sounds like it's a loop more than a song. so it could have been a classic, but it's not.

I agree with NL4E - the bit that goes 'waiting for the moment... for my heart to be unbroken by the seams' is one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard. That bit nails the song down for me, especially with the female backing vocals. Think about the person you love most and this song gets you every time. For me it's so much better than Wonderwall (which I find a bit boring to be honest).

I think if I had listened to If I Had A Gun about 12000 times like I had Wonderwall it would lose its charm as well.

I have nothing new to add to this threat, I'm just going to say one of the best songs he's ever written (lyrically)

Live, it's pretty fantastic. On the album, it's probably my least favorite. Very Noel by the books, which isn't really a bad thing. Being the worst on that album still means I rate it pretty well.

Where Did It All Go Wrong is miles better. Listen to IIHAG and afterwards to WDIAGW, then you know what I mean. Its just not tough enough, like the whole album. Although I consider the lyrics to be very good, I don't listen to the album any more. Bummer!

The album version of Where Did It All Go Wrong is horrible, "but I hope you know", "and I hope you know", "but I hope you know", "and I hope you know", "but I hope you know", "and I hope you know", "but I hope you know"... feels like it goes on forever.
It is however saved by Noel's vocal on Jools Holland.

I think the album version of WDIAGW is quite powerful actually. One of Noels and Oasis' best, particularly from the 2000s. It never quite translated as well live, apart from the Jools version.
