Noel's sales figures are outstanding for a rock album in this climate. What are you smoking? Have you seen the sales figures for Elbow, Monkeys, Beady Eye, kasabian. chili Peppers, foos? These are all the biggest rock acts in the UK right now. Noel will outsell all of them, some by a huge margin. Even Coldplay, which is the biggest band in the world right now, isn't embarassing Noel in the sales department right now. When did Noel release a rock album? I missed that one. On a side note "They burned Greggs, I've got absolutely no sympathy for the fuckers!" Doing even better for a folk album. Was #32nd most sold album in the UK at the end of his second week across all genres for this year so far.

Doing even better for a folk album. Was #32nd most sold album in the UK at the end of his second week across all genres for this year so far. Is folk code for pop now? 32nd highest sold album for the year after 2 weeks? Correction-Noel's album is doing great for a pop album (and if Noel's album is a "pop" album by the standards of what is on radio one, I look like Ryan Reynolds. Maybe file it under "adult alternative" or "mid-tempo strummy stuff by middle aged guys") But keep minimizing Noel's success, dion, if it makes you feel better. Whatever floats your boat. (Note that Noel is now 25th for 2011 after three weeks)

Why are people discussing Noel here? BE just gave an excellent interview that's covering an important music magazine, let's appreciate that.

I spent £50 on train tickets to hear the album on the other side of the country the day before it leaked, I've got 2 copies of the album and I'm going to see him on my 21st Birthday in Newcastle next year. I love his new record. Thats a hell of a lot more than I put into anything BDI did. However I'm not going to lie to myself about album sales even if I'd fall into the category of a "Noel Fanboy". We have very different definitions of great. In my book first week sales in the UK of 150-200kish are "great", 100-150k are good and 50-100k are average depending on who you are. Noel's album has done well (and better than I expect tbh) but it's still not as if he's suddenly drawn the sword of rock from it's scabbard and cast down the evil androgynous pop juggernaught that is Lady Gaga into the fire from which thou came.

You need to re-adjust your expectations, because you're not appreciating how strong Noel's album sales are. A 44 year old releasing his first solo album without any support from Radio One selling over 120K his first week is not merely good. It's excellent. By the time 2011 is done, he'll have one of the top 10-15 selling albums (conservative guess) this year after only 2 and a half months of sales. How is that not excellent? This isn't 1997. I consider Beady Eye's first week sales to be good. 66K is a healthy amount-would be number one many weeks. Noel did great business.

So how would you describe Adele's album sales, how about Coldplays? Noel's the lead songwriter from Oasis, Oasis' last album had first week sales of 200k and Noel had plenty of exposure, I was expecting 90-100k sales for the first week which would have been decent, 120k was above expectations. You'd hope he'd be in the top 20 at the end of the year, it's not like album sales are 6 weeks or so have much effect on the final standing.

I don't know whether its intended to be a joke, but what is a 'Henry the Hoover'?
Excited now. I thought they were real until they mentioned Better Man and Born on a Different Cloud though, that kinda made me think less of the upcoming album

The Henry The Hoover quote is comedy gold, I can't stop laughing! 'Liam said "Noel's all like, 'I'd mention trumpets to Liam and he'd fucking spin out' and all that," scoffs Liam. "I wanted Henry The Hoover on 'Better Man' and on 'Born On A Different cloud' as well. I remember our kid going 'What the fuck are you doing?' like that. I was like, 'We're fucking... experimenting, man'. And he was just like that (looks disapproving), tutted and walked out. And it's just like, a Hoover's always good. Henry The Hoover, man..." Well... it's going to be hard to follow DGSS, the best album of the last 50 years.
Innit, tom.

I wonder if WOTR and ITBWAB were still Oasis leftovers or if from now on we'll have 100% new songs. I tend to believe the next album will be composed by new compositions only, but god only knows.

Doesn't Noel talk about the Hoover on one of the HC dvd singles? Isn't his version of events along the lines of, it sounded terrible, like a plane taking off? And Liam laughed in agreement?? Or did I just make that up!?

Best bits in my opinion: Liam, Andy, Gem liking Cults. Great record and really friendly people. Bonehead maybe playing on a BE track.

Good interview, Liam on top form as always. I just hate how the rest of the band are so boring and worshipping of Liam. They agree with every single thing he says. Gem's not too bad, but Andy and Chris just might be the dullest two people on earth

Love that Liam interview, talking about 11 amazing tunes and best album hes ever done etc. These 'Liam-isms' are funny.
I remember when standing on the shoulder of giants was about to be released and Liam on the Big Breakfast telling Johnny Vaughn its the best Oasis album theyve ever done
I really like DGSS, do hope album #2's good
