I think so, alot of people will have bypassed the band by not recognising the name, whereas Liam Gallagher is very recognisable..
Would have sold a few more records, nothing massive but id say The Roller would have charted slightly higher

So it would've been better if Gem sang it himself or what exactly is it you're saying?

I wish he would've gone solo, but not for the additional sales. His biggest asset is his voice, but his biggest liability is his narrow musical taste. I think an album with multiple producers and songwriters that really pushed Liam's limits would've been (and still could be) the best thing for him (and us).

friendship is more important than big success.
i prefer the way he did it.i like the fact we have Beady Eye, a gang of friends, and not Liam gallagher solo or and Liam gallagher & whatever. they still have the chance to work with different people, producers, anyone and do what they want.no limits that time, no pressure for #1 singles, only good music.its up to them

It's a good thing he stayed with beady eye but he should do more collaborations. People would love to write for his voice. He did very few collaboration in his carreer except for Carnation, Scorpio Rising with Death in Vegas and Shoot Down with Prodigy and there were all great He really should go and explore. Noel has since the Chemical Brothers and he's still doing it with the AA album.

I think he is better of with BDI (or Noel?). First of all, he hasn't written a big load of classics. He's songwriting is far away from Noel, and even Gem and Andy are just as good as him or better. Liam is ofc not used to play guitar AND concetrate on the singing at the same time. Gem's the man!
Liam is more a frontman and a pretty good singer t me, not a complete artist.

Liams songwriting is a whole lever above Gem and Andy though! But he will never go solo. He likes being in a band, with friends. It's different then Noel, who always was a loner even if he was in the band.

Liam made the best decision to carry on with his bandmates, I think the stability of being around people he knows and respects is good for him. And of course, if there ever came a time down the line that Oasis were to re-form, having to persuade just 1 person to come back on board would be easier than having to persuade everyone if by then they had all gone their own separate ways.

For me ,is impossible ,you know Liam isn't able to make 10 interesting or unforgettable songs in one album so far . In fact, Gem and Andy had to make more contribution to the next years‘ album will become more important.

imo, Liam can write an album with great tunes. wigwam and morning son are great examples. i m outta time, soldier on, the boy with the blues, i believe in all for DOYS. songbird, born on a different cloud etc. if you put the best Liam;s tunes together i think you can have an amazing album He s getting better and better.and i m definitely sure that he s gonna write even better songs. but as i v said i prefer to have him in a band with his friends. i also have to admit that it would be great to make a few collaborations with other artists.

Liams songwriting is a whole lever above Gem and Andy though! The last album suggests on a consistent basis the opposite is true.

You either love Liam or you hate him. He doesn't attract casual fans, so having Liam Gallagher instead of Beady Eye would make no difference to sales.

The Morning Son and Wigwam are two of the best songs of the album. Bring The Light was praised as best of the album by a lot of critcs. And on previous albums he wrote songs like Bow With The Blues, Guess God Thinks I'm Abel, Born On A Different Cloud, Songbird, I'm Outa Time, ... Need I say more?

The best songs on the album where 4LW and The Roller by a decent margin, not only where they the most radio-friendly but they were also the most complete. BTL was praised and slaughtered in equal measure, praised because it was different, slaughtered because it wasn't a great song. Can you remember the utter derision when it was released? Only since it's live potential was shown have people warmed to it. Liam has written the best songs of the bunch (Songbird and IOT) but he's also written a lot of the crap (BAS says high). On his own he wouldn't have the consistent quality to write an album and DGSS didn't have any of that 'Gallagher Magic' Liam occasionally taps into. Andy and Gem's bottom level is much higher than Liams, even if they dont have such a high ceiling. All of this without mentioning how much Liam relies on Gem to translate his ideas into "actual music".

I think Andy has a big potential but was never able to be as good as he was with Ride, he never really found his spot in Oasis, but sometimes, he's able of a typical oasis rock song like 4 letter word or Turn up the sun (a classic for me). As for Gem, he's really not a very talented composer, his best tune are too similar to others ( No Fun by The Stooges for HIABP, Instant Karma for the Roller). Stealling some riffs is not a proleme, Noel does it all the time, but you have to make a tune that makes you forget the original little riff, and Gem is not capable of doing that.
As for Liam, I think he's the most talented composer of the three, he's got a good sense of melody but has no clue as an arranger. So if he's with a good producer, it gives you I'm outta time but if he's not... And he's also able of big shits like Bring the light, but that's because he experiments, he hasn't found his road as a composer for the moment, but he'll get there, he has someting, never as good as his brother but he has some talent. I'm glad the next album will have strings, He think Liam's tunes needs bigger sound than just an accoutic guitar all the time.

Excellent post above, I agree with all of that.
Liam's problem is that he goes into rock 'n' roll star mode when writing, where he bases the quality of the song on how punchy it sounds live. I have no problem with hearing those kind of songs at gigs, but Oasis had dozens of similar but vastly superior songs in their back catalogue, and Beatles and Stones, Ain't Got Nothing and The Meaning of Soul weren't exactly amongst the high points on record.
Liam is capable of writing excellent songs when he does put his mind to it though, and I'd say Morning Son, Wigwam, Songbird, I'm Outta Time and Born On A Different Cloud are a class above Andy and Gem's, and arguably on par or not far off Noel's output from the same period. That's not to say Liam is anywhere near as good a songwriter as Noel though - it took him 8 years to pen 5 songs. But certainly the potential is there.
I also think Sharrock deserves a special mention though. I remember Gem saying that they all sent him their unfinished work before they went to the studio. Sharrock would then add the drums and structure the rest of the song to fit around them. It shows what a difference it makes to having a permanent drummer in the band as I think his drumming on Wigwam, the Morning Son and one or two others significantly improve the overall song, and I'm not normally someone who notices individual instruments.

Bring The Light is a great tune imo, you may not like it which is fair enough but critics didn't just like it because it was different. They liked it because its good. Its not really different, its only a slice of 50's rock n roll. A song is an idea, Gem just helps him realise that idea. Makes it no less his to me. Although I agree with you he could never be on his own for an album.

I didn't mean different in the Radiohead "lets do something nobody's ever done before even if it sounds terrible just for the sake of it" different. It was different from the rest of the album and from anything in Oasis. I didn't say they weren't Liam's songs, just Gem clearly plays an important part in his song writing and he's in no way good enough as a composer yet to go off and do his own thing.
