When, where, why did you choose the football club you support?

Central Coast Mariners-Pet hate of everything Sydney based (Bar the Rabbits), which led to me as a Blades fan after 2007 Hibernian-Grandmother's father's brother in law was Edinbourgh born

Local team, innit.
I was stuck in goal when I was 8 years old, and kept calling myself David Seaman even though I didn't know who he was. Found myself to be pretty good and liked the position that it eventually became my favorite position. Exposure to soccer at the playground was transformed by a friend who lived literally right next to Highbury - so much so that you could see the lights and hear the sound system being tested prior to a match. He got me interested. I followed the 1996-1997 Arsenal Season, but not too terribly closely. I remember watching some of Euro96, too. However, come 1997 I was a full fledged Arsenal, England, and soccer (football) fan. Always out in the back garden kicking the ball around, and trying to watch every Arsenal match on TV.
Yes, my support is correlated to Arsenal's double winning season, but I'm no glory supporter. I couldn't foresee them winning anything at the start of 97/98 could I? In fact, I stuck by them for the entire season, and it wasn't until THAT 1-0 win at Old Trafford in the Spring where our fortunes changed as we surged to a Premiership and FA Cup double.
So basically my local team (lived in NW3), and friends produced my Arsenal fandom. I have yet to look back. Up the Arsenal!

I lived In Tyne & Wear until I was 4 and in that time never took any interest in football. In 1996 moved to Swindon. The year I moved away was Sunderlands last season at Roker Park. In 1997 we went up to visit family and my dad took me to see what was left of Roker (3/4 stands were demolished) then he took me to see the brand new Stadium Of Light. At some point during the 97/98 season I got hooked to SAFC. Last game of the season was (I think by fate) Swindon Town away. Swindons stadium, The County Ground has a capacity of 15,000 and is 300 miles away from Sunderland, yet 12,000 Sunderland fans turned up. There was a celebratory pitch invasion at the end and that settled it for me. 1st game of the following season was QPR at home and 42,000 turned up, which for a Championship game (Div 1 at the time) is astounding. Those first 4 years were truly amazing, turned shit after and never been as good but the club is in my blood now so I stick by them... I never saw them lose until 2003. Since then only seen them win 5 times

I couldn't find a specific MLS thread, so.... I live about 45 minutes from where the Columbus Crew play their games - I've never been to a game, can't name a single player, but I hope they beat the Portland Timbers on Sunday for the MLS Cup just to annoy Frodis. God bless.

The one good thing to come out of that job (besides the %50 discount on shoes & clothing)

Bit of an odd one, but the team moved away when I was still quite young, and the fans restarted the club from scratch. So I used to go to a few games with my dad. When I got a little older tickets were still free for under 16s so I started going to every match. This went on for a couple years and I figured that when I turned 16 I'd have to pay, and I had no income so I wouldn't be able to go any more. But a few people around knew my face and someone offered me a job, selling tickets and generally helping out, to give me a bit of cash and keep me out of trouble. Best job I've ever had. Still did a couple games on the turnstiles last season, when I was visiting home. Not been able to go to any games this season because of my new job, but looking forward to going on Boxing Day. We're doing pretty well these days, been back in the football league a couple years now.
You can probably guess who I support...

Was born and raised (until I was 11) in NW London. All the lads at school supported The Arsenal, and with that an obsession was born.
Starting at age 6, the kids stuck me in goal, and I would proclaim I was David Seaman (even though I had no idea who he was at that point ha). Goalkeeper immediately became my favorite position, and I'm quite fucking good at it. Have that.
I'm not a bad striker either, though.

Falkirk is the town where I was born and the team that my dad, grandad and great grandad have always supported. It was inevitable really that I would follow suit and I'm very glad I did!
I went to my first game when I was four and have been going regularly home and away with my dad for the last ten years. Last season I finally managed to get to every single game in the league and cup.

Well growing up in a place with no professional football team is tough so, aside from Ross County, Caley are my first point of call for football as I was born in Inverness, have family there and Caley Thistle was the first team I ever saw when I was young and they were in the old Division 2.
To be honest, the support isn't that great for them mainly because they are a relatively new club and I think older people have gone long enough without them to really care about them but I'd like to think it's a generational thing where guys like myself are the first generation who are brought up on the club, hopefully building a good foundation for the future.

Born and raised in Aberdeen, was hooked as soon as my dad took me along to my first game. Beat Dundee United 2-1 which was a good way to begin things. The Moroccan Magician Hicham Zerouali and Robbie Winters scored if I remember correctly.

Just by travel me and my buddy alwYs went to London and Manchester dating back to 80 s. The London clubs did nothing for me , city seemed cool , not trendy and they were gritty. Not the glam team they are now , so I started following them we had a great footy bar in NYC that showed epl games and I followed man city ever since it was hard keeping up with them when they were relagated pre cable but I alwYs got to Manchester twice a year so I kept up that way and by buying the uk papers in NYC. It made it special

Never even had one. Were you at FCK - Man City? I didn't even have a ticket.
OK, I'll let this stand. I'm not infertile though if that's the question. I just happen to like FCK and I support HIF. Is that really so odd?
