Surly that depends on if the score you give is in relation to the other Noel songs or all music. All my scores on stuff like this are based on the person in questions work. I do agree it's not one of the greatest songs of all time, but it is a nine in comparison to the five other Noel songs that we have.

Nothing special, solid 6. if I vaporize, it might be an 8. Also wonder, IF it was some other band singing this exact same song or we didn't know it was Noel would ppl still rate this a fuckin 8 or 9....for a lot of songs, BE included, I feel ppl are sold on the "brand" and not the quality....bahhhhh bahhhhhh bahhhhh. Bollocks. This tune is great and sounds to me like Radiohead or Elbow - two of the most highly acclaimed acts over the past 5-10 years. Just cos there's no rousing pub rock, sing-a-long-a-lager-lout chorus or pounding drum beat doesn't mean it's not good and just shows that some people on these boards have a very limited view on music. I give it an 8. On the other side of the coin if Elbow released this the critics would be falling over it but because it's Noel they'll probably just say he's jumping on the bandwagon of their sound and give it a 6 or something. |

Im sure that in their own right they're fuckin awesome but, in my realm of musical tastes, they don't fill any of my iTunes playlists. As for the song, its a good song. IMO opinion, it just doesn't make me wanna fly 50 feet into the sky at supersonic velocity. its an average track. Fuck what the journos say, I base my opinions on what I like. Im no Rolling Stone rock snob or anything but, my musical tastes vary beyond Oasis/Britpop. Miles Davis, Dusty Springfield, Ricky Nelson, Beach Boys, MGMT, Slick Rick, Edith Piaf, Chet Baker, The Smiths, Roses, Ramones, Cure, Supremes Stevie Wonder. |

I'm amazed that this isn't on the album and If I Had A Gun is. Management really must of wanted to push a commercial friendly sound, what a shame. This makes me think of what SotSoG could/should of been.

couldn't agree more. This is by far and away the best song we've heard so far. DOYAM and IIHAG are very commercial and its understandable that they should make the album.
But Alone on the rope is a really mature, well-produced song that doesn't fall into the obvious Noel cliches that the other new ones do - "rain, sunshine, C, G, Cadd9, Em... etc etc". As someone who's been listening to NG songs for a very long time like a lot of people on this forum, I personally find that sort of song very boring and uninspiring, I feel like it's Noel in lazy mode, not really trying.
This is a really decent song. Very much like Doves.

Gets a 9/10 for me, keeps climbing too. If you give it a good listen and read the lyrics as it moves along, trust me you will agree.
