He didn't say that. He said he rates it up there with some of his best stuff in the last 10 years.
He only said that time will tell if it grows into more.

"Easily up there with some of the best things I have ever written, ESPECIALLY within the last 10 years". Knowledge of the English language would dictate that this sentence implies it is up the with the best he has ever written with special emphasis but not specifically limited to the last 10 years.

Funny. When I said that it was one of his best in a while I got accused of talking shit. I wonder what the comments will be now that Noel has said basically the same thing.

At least not completely. He could think that there are 50 songs that he's done in his career that add up to some the best stuff he's ever written. And if either TDOYAM or WAL were say #50, on that Top 50, then yeah I'd take him saying it's up there with DLBIA. But he doesn't say that it's up there with DLBIA. You're taking him far too literally when he says "it's up there with my best stuff". Okay, how much of his music does he consider his best stuff? And judging by the comment, it seems as if he puts stuff like DLBIA, WW, and LF, in another bracket. Because even though he says it's up there with my best work, he still counters with "whether it's up there with my greats, only time will tell."

To me it sounds like he is stating that as of right now, he considers WAL and TDOYAM to be up there with Wonderwall, and DLBIA, but that it remains to be seen if it will still stand at that level in time.

He did say in an interview just before DBTT came out that Mucky Fingers was his favourite Oasis song, he has a habit of loving his new stuff at the expense of his old stuff which is understandable really.

Yeah, I wasn't saying that these songs ARE better, only that AT THIS POINT IN TIME, Noel puts them in the same league.
That is all.

i m not sure if "time will tell" cause music these days is something different.rock music/bands lost momentum and the big hits and somehow when a song selling good then time will definitely tell.but if it cant sell a copie at all everyone seems to forget about it...no matter if its great or not.
but imo sales and quality are 2 very different things. i think new Noel songs have the quality but not the momentum.in my mind some of these tunes will be up with his most important work and i m not gonna wait fucking time to tell...

Funny as it is, I don't remember Noel hyping up DOYS as the best thing since Morning Glory, that was a conclusion a few publications (I think NME for one) came to by themselves. I appreciated that.

that stament kind of makes me worry for the album... if what a life is among his best, it must be one of the highlights of the album - which would be really sad if true.

Is anyone still actually surprised at the praise Noel gives his new material? When SOTSOG came out Noel gave it so much praise and whatnot, and just recently he's said he wished they never made that whole album. He always has a honeymoon phase with his new material, and I'm willing to bet you ANYTHING he'll pick maybe 3-4 songs from this album that he really likes once his next album comes out, and he won't give a shit about the rest.

well we all know Noel can be a class-A bullshitter when he wants (or needs) to be does it surprise me that he'd say this? nah, not really.
does it bother me? not in the least. He's just doing promo, it's what he's supposed to say. Doesn't mean anyone should believe him. I know i don't. He probably doesn't believe it himself. Just like Liam didn't believe what he'd say during every Oasis album release... "best since Def Maybe". Yeah right.
