It really wouldn't surprise me. I have no idea why management always pick the safest, most "by the numbers" lead single when there are songs there that are a) better quality, and b) Would make more of an impression with the floating buyers. I know a lot of people who wrote Beady Eye off after hearing Bring The Light, wrote off DOYS after TSOTL, etc, and have heard similar comments towards TDOYAM.

Have people suddenly stopped liking TDOYAM?
It might not be as good as IIHAG but it is a quality song and I don't think anyone wrote Noel off after hearing it. In fact I seem to remember the song being universally acclaimed by just about everyone from journos to casual fans that I know.

Yeah, I fuckin loved TDOYAM when it came out (still do) but it seems to be getting trumped now. It's partly because we're all so excited for everything else this album has to bring and we've been deprived of an ALL Noel record for so long, so we're bound to pounce at anything new.

I know a lot of people who wrote Beady Eye off after hearing Bring The Light, wrote off DOYS after TSOTL, etc, and have heard similar comments towards TDOYAM. TSOTL comparison I can understand. It was picked because they thought it would appeal most to the fanbase. I agree that a big reason that TDOYAM was released was to not scare the fanbase. But not because it was by-the-number Oasis. TIOBI was not Oasis-by-numbers...but the continuity betweeen TIOBI and TDOYAM means that there is a link between the first thing they hear from Noel and something that Oasis had released that had no Liam connection. It was a song that we probably would have heard sounding pretty much the same, in Noel's voice, even if this had been an Oasis album. But neither sound like the stereotypical Oasis. They could have released IIHAG but the IIHAG comparisons go back to the big ballads of the 90's with Liam on vocals when he was at his vocal peak. Slide Away, Wonderwall, DGA and there is a case that can be made for Liam being the one that would have sang it for Oasis. BTL was picked for exactly the opposite reason of both of those tunes. It was released to shake up the fanbase and media. To put something completely different out there. That is why it turned some people off. It was polarizing...and not particularly different in a great way. I agree with JitKenson. I don't think I have noticed a whole bunch of Oasis fans writing off Noel after the TDOYAM release. Response was generally positive.

TDOYAM is exellent, and I still think that, but IIHAG blows it out the water. TDOYAM would have been one of my favourites had it been included on any recent Oasis album, but it just can't stand up to IIHAG. If a song as good as that isn't the standout track on Noel's album then I can only imagine how good it'll be.

I can see why they released it; to get everyone talking about Beady Eye (be it good or bad comments) and it worked but unfortunately it resulted in people not giving their other songs enough of a chance. They should have released Four Letter Word as the taster song and probably Millionaire as the lead single even though I do like BTL and The Roller.

first of all....... He's the private investigator hired to watch you and makes sure you don't go fucking crazy and kill anyone, seeing as your mental and all. I'm glad he's doing his job. that's fucking funny. secondly, i haven't been in these sections lately, the 'kool-aid' fueled opinions annoy the hell outta me. thirdly, there's no way the TDOYAM is the worst song on the album, no way. the TDOYAM is classic, it just can't be the worst song on the album, it'd defy logic.......that album would be the best album ever if that were so. fourthly, i prefer TDOYAM to IIHAG. IIHAG is classic Noel songwriting, and quite frankly kinda boring. lastly, i think i dropped my fingers. just sayin'.........

I also love "Bring The Light." When it comes on in the car I become lethally dangerous, which is not good. But yeah, I guess it's like marmite.

TDOYAM when i first heard it was super delighted...it just doesn't seem to have that staying power which quite a lot of Noel tunes have.
Nevertheless...for what it was...a first single...it worked quite well....especially as i'm currently going through the Irish summer...where I guess most people are like yer one in the video...wanting to get away!
If TDOYAM is one of the worst...then we have an amazing album in store :-)
On top of that...I can't wait to hear how TDOYAM sounds in the context of listening through the album in its entireity
After all, Shakermaker sounds that much cooler when sandwiched between RocknRoll Star and LF and indeed when placed in the whole DM listening arena

"By-the-numbers" was the wrong choice of words. I should have said radio friendly. I still think Bring The Light and TDOYAM are amongst the most bland and inoffensive songs on the albums (or at least from what we've heard of Noel's so far), although that isn't a criticism as such as Bring The Light has grown on me and TDOYAM is solid enough.
Oasis fans will buy Oasis/Noel/Beady Eye regardless so I don't know why they try to appease the already converted. Especially when the single doesn't really represent the sound of the album.

AKA...WAL is still better than TDOYAM, for me. I like TODOYAM and while I don't find it boring per se, it's boring in comparison to everything else he has released thus far.
Still going to be difficult for him to topple IIHAG. That one is a true classic in every sense. But if he does, wow.
