The Death of You and Me wasn't supposed to be a single, since they have the same management company it looks like it was supposed to be a "Bring the Light" type thing that he was just going to "put on the internet for people to listen to" but they made a video and it got "out of hand".
From the god's mouth on Talksport.

It's too good to be a 'listen on the website' sort of thing

Well don't use quotations then. Also, the way you say it, it sounds like it would have been a free download which would never happen because Noel doesn't believe in giving music away for free.

There is more than one reason to use quotations, I shall reword it however to avoid further confusion. The second bit, well Noel seemed to disagree. I cant remember the exact phrase but it was something along the lines of 'we were just going to put it up on the internet for people to listen to but then we made a video and it all got out of hand'.

lol really? maybe that was what he had initially planned but... when you're releasing the song on all formats the same day and don't offer it digitally for free, it's a legit first single.

The song is average at best... Nothing memorable about it, except the brass section, which is only memorable, because it's the first time he's ever incorporated that in a tune.
It's a poor man's TIOBI and a poor effort for his initial solo output. Here's to hoping that the very promising soundchecks turn out to be as ace they have the potential to be!!!

No need to get all defensive.

people go on about a brass solo not being done before but forget that Don't Go Away has a brass solo

Just like Beady Eye's first single, i bet TDOYAM is the most catchiest upon first listen and no where near the best song on Noel's album . That's why i ain't worried.

If the next single is what 'The Roller' was to 'Bring the Light'... fucking awesome You mean an Instant Karma rip-off? What's wrong with that? Is Instant Karma a bad song? Does a song have to be original to be good? Should we all be on radiohead.com praising their ginger singer for saving music as we know it? Should Beady Eye have credited John Lennon as a co-writer? I can't see the problem?
