that the reason for releasing TDOYAM first had something to do with it was one of the songs on the album that it was most obvious that Liam couldn't sing? Either stylistically or in terms of range.
It's generally accepted that BDI released BTL to show that they were different from Oasis. Maybe Noel chose his single based on trying to show that he could make amazing music without Liam's voice?
RM and STC for instance...and probably EOTR. Amazing though they may be...there will be many people on this board and in the population in general who will drone on and on about how it would sound better with Liam. Probably 3/4 of the album people will argue that about.
Not that I think that Noel chose a subpar song to make a point. BDI unfortunately put forward one of their weakest songs to make a point. Noel has put forward an extremely strong song...for which I am grateful.
I can imagine IIHAG being another tune that would have been meant for Noel to sing even if it had been an Oasis tune...and it has apparently been earmarked as the American single.

im curious...... do you think of posts like that whilst your nursing??? do you suddenly rush out of an operation to grab your phone and inform us? shall i do a poll for you??? back to the thread, until ive heard the other songs its hard to say, i wouldn't be surprised if theres falsetto in the majority of the songs so im thinking TDOYAM sounds more 'friendlier' to the radio audience

You should test your thoughts/posts on your patients first. If they die, don't post them on the forum!

It's probably the track thats easiest to digest and easiest recognizable as a Noel track. We'll have to hear the rest of the album before we can analyze deeper.

Hmm maybe. Those are good thoughts. Still, I don't think Noel would complicate things so much like that. Even though in the press conference he did mention that people would complain about that very problem, I think Noel truthfully put out a song that he thought was a highlight of his album - whether or not Liam could have sounded better.

And no gdforever, I don't think the reason why Noel put out TDOYAM first is because it was one that "Liam couldn't sing." I'm sticking with the opinion that out of all of Noel's tunes for the new record, TDOYAM is the one that sounds the best as a summer single. That's why it was released.

It would be like Lennon trying to sing Maxwell's Silver Hammer

To be honest, Noel did describe it as HIS favourite off the album, which will definitely have had its importance when choosing the lead off single...
Its interesting to note that when he was asked what the best song on the album was at the press conference he immediately named If I had a Gun... Probably not his favourite, but recognizes that people will love it.

Might have been a factor, yes. It's a good song, it sounds different from Oasis, it has mainstream potential AND it's the kind of song Noel would have sung in Oasis as well, so you won't say "It's good, but I do miss Liam". Noel has done so many things right with this...

Probably not his favourite, but recognizes that people will love it. Yeah, that was also the case with Stop Crying Your Heart Out on Heathen Chemistry. He was kind a little indifferent to it, but he knew it would be a hit. He said later that he could write a million of those kind of songs with his eyes closed, without even trying.
