1. No cringe worthy Liam vocals I love him and what he meant to Oasis, but his voice is horrendous now.
2. First 100% Noel-penned album since 1997 Again, Liam had a few great tunes but most of his songs are weak. Although Andy wrote some classic songs in RIDE, his Oasis tunes never approached those standards. I could do without every single Gem song he wrote for Oasis as well.
3. No more Gem I used to like him, but fuck me did he really start to get on my tits the last 4 years or so. Although an immensely talented guitarist, I'd had enough of his guitar style, which I thought was "anti-Oasis" and, along with Liam's declining vocals, ruined the classic Oasis sound more than anything else.

1. Is right to an extent. Liams vocals had ruined some Oasis songs for me but on others it was just what the song ordered
2. Hell YEAH!
3. Nope. I love(d) Gem.

I have a feeling Gem is going to tour with Noel. But I fucking hope not. No...Noel has announced his touring band. He'll obviously be playing guitar and the other guitar is the Macca dude from the Sand Band Plus Noel has said he hasn't played without Gem in years...which mean he will be playing without him now.

Although Andy wrote some classic songs in RIDE, his Oasis tunes never approached those standards. What classic songs? I can't think of one decent song he wrote on his own for Ride. Gardner should get all the credit. Andy's lyrics are all right sometimes, but his music has always been mediocre.

I know Noel said that but a lot can change in three months.
It wouldn't surprise me if Gem showed up as a special guest at some gigs at the very least. Again, I hope he doesn't. His guitar style and the tones he picked became very redundant on the DOYS tour.
His guitar playing, tone and his overall vibe ruined the classic Oasis wall of sound, end of.
Anyone who disagrees with that statement is likely in denial.

I think Liam's live performances were despicable most of the time after 2000, so I'm glad he's out of the equation. I agree that Noel's songs were the only reason I still listened to Oasis, the other songs either weren't very good or burned out quick.
But I love Gem, he's a classy guy. Of course I don't know him personally, but he was a good fit for Oasis. His guitar playing was orchestrated by Noel. If Noel didn't like the way he sounded I'm sure he would have fixed him up. I think you're giving too much liberty to Gem. So consider me in denial.

I agree - Gem's guitar playing never had enough natural feel for me. Always sounded like he was trying too hard in his head rather than just getting lost in the rhythm and falling deep into the pocket.

Always sounded like he was trying too hard in his head rather than just getting lost in the rhythm and falling deep into the pocket. The way he played 'The Masterplan' during the last two tours fucking infuriated me every time. There is no doubt he can play the instrument, but it was definitely anti-Oasis after the 2001 Brotherly Love tour.

I always thought Andy looked more out of place in Oasis. He just seemed like he was going through the motions playing the bass. I can see why him and Noel didn't get on to well and I'm not sure if Liam likes him either. It's just the vibe I get from different interviews, I could be totally wrong though. As for Liam's voice well it's each to their own. I have many friends who can't stand his voice but luckily I have always loved it. On the albums I think he has always produced great vocals apart from a few of the ballads and in concert I really couldn't care less if he didn't sound perfect because its all about the atmosphere and having the craic, its not about analysing his vocals.

Gem compliments Noel's accoustic gigs perfectly, You dont know what youre talking about Bampot They didn't play 'The Masterplan' during the acoustic gigs. I was at the second acoustic gig (November 2006 in Toronto) and Gem was fantastic that night. However, as the tour went on his sound and playing became progressively more "forced" and tried to be too much of a show off at the expense of melody and timing.

I kind of agree. Gem's guitar playing, while technically good, is very workman like. You get no feeling from him at all.

I agree with you here. But it was always the one or two songs on each album from HC onward that made me cringe and ruined the flow of the album. The Liam vocals that made me cringe (2002 - 2008) HC: HIABP, PAITM (this song would've been incredible with better vocals and production), BOADC DBTT: LLAB (great song of his, would've been immense with better vocals), LTBL (an absolute abortion of a song) DOYS: TBWTL, AGN, NOR

Got anything to back that up my good sir? Same thing goes for the songs on Nowhere that you gave him full credit for. Note that I was mainly speaking about his input since Going Blank Again and forth, I though I made that clear. Everything else on that list of yours is complete and utter shit.

'Forth' is by The Verve you tit. And nowhere in your first post did you mention the "time period" you were referring to. HAHA, "speaking about his input since Going Blank Again?" So you're going to ignore the songs he wrote for Nowhere and Going Blank Again, their two defining albums? Haha, what a fuck you are. That's like saying you're going to ignore Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory when assessing Noel Gallagher's songwriting contributions to Oasis. You are a complete mong. As for substantiated proof, I have an old interview somewhere with Andy and Mark where they basically attribute all credits for ideas, music and lyrics of every single RIDE song. I can assure you these were all written 100% by Andy and that he wrote the music for Leave Them All Behind. Also, if you don't like the majority of the songs on that list, then you clearly don't understand what RIDE was all about and your opinion is meaningless to me.

You get no feeling from him at all. just a thought..... maybe Gem's 'unflashy' playing is exactly what Oasis, and specifically Noel wanted. that's my guess. Gem, and Andy for that matter, fit perfectly into the Oasis fold without causing a stir. yeah, they write good songs but more importantly they don't overshadow Noel. i really don't think Noel wanted a 'great' guitar player in Oasis besides himself, i'd almost guarantee that, that'd take the spotlight off Noel. that's one thing i give Oasis credit for, picking good replacement members. a great, standout guitarist wouldn't have ever worked alongside Noel, it just wouldn't. and, Noel himself said he doesn't really collaborate when writing. Gem served his purpose for Oasis, he was almost like a glorified session player that also wrote decent songs. it worked. think about it.
