NOEL's solo material has been a closely guarded secret for a long time. It is now only a week away from your ears and I can finally tell readers it is just what you've been wishing for. The Death Of You And Me, out on August 28, is the first single from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - and it's seriously impressive stuff. He's a big fan of Neil Young and Donovan - and Noel's first track is worthy of being mentioned beside those legends. It's nothing fancy or too intricate, just classic Noel songwriting - coupled with an unexpected brass section. Who saw that twist coming? Considering he smokes and drinks, his voice sounds more youthful than ever. It is closer in style to more recent Oasis tracks such as The Importance Of Being Idle from Don't Believe The Truth and (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady on Dig Out Your Soul. Lyrically, he's come up with more memorable lines and imagery about "storm clouds" soaking up his soul. It is a pearler and could even attract fans who wouldn't brave the flying pints of p*** at Oasis gigs. It has already been A-listed on Radio 2 four weeks before release - and that rarely happens. Xfm, 6 Music and Absolute are all thumping for it too. The video is ace. Filmed in the desert outside LA, with a stunning blonde waitress he pushes into a pool. The full video will be premiered on noelgallagher.com from 8.20am Monday. As he would say: "Get on it". www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/3708916/Noel-dont-look-back-in-Tonga.html#ixzz1SnT8zSOeI know that it's from the Sun, but it coincide with Jamie's description of TIOBI style with a brass section. And guess what LIB, there are more blondes. And noel is pushing them into a pool.

So it's more "western" sounding than the jam-like feel we got from the soundcheck and 47 second clip? Hmm....I was hoping for a powerful arrival, but I guess that will do.

I think some people might get turned off by even the mention of GOYHHL, but I'm not. I actually liked the style/vibe that Noel was trying to go for. I just think that the songwriting in general, along with poor mixing brought that song down.
I would love to hear a GOYHHL type song, except with better songwriting and better mixing. I think it's a cool idea.

From the little snippet we've heard, it reminds more of something like "Falling Down", in terms of production, than anything else. IDK, it's too early to tell... but I agree, spaneli. GOYHHL had the potential, but the laziness of the songwriting and etc destroyed it, but a song like that with the right credentials could be really good.

Reserving judgment til we hear it obviously, but early returns seem to be quite positive. I'm quite excited both for the song and to see what he's done with the video. Also glad we get our first mention of "soul" in the lyrics. Been too long since we heard a Noel buzzword in a new song.

I'm surprised we're getting the video already, but that's pretty awesome news. All signs are pointing to this being an impressive debut. Can't believe we're only a few days away. I will be sure to use the bathroom at 3:15am Monday to avoid any potential accidents at 3:20.

But now, if it gets the airplay that I think it will get, then I think the single may now chart extremely well when it comes out. I'm increasing my prediction to Top 10, Top 5 depending how good the song really is.

I'm not a fan of HHL...but I am not put off by it being mentioned.
I think we could all see where the connection could be made between a song like HHL's vibe and TIOBI. HHL being the poorer version of that type of song and TIOBI being a great version. There is a world of variation in quality and the description indicates nothing about the connection between HHL and TDOYAM being the quality of the songs.
It doesn't suprise me that it's a bit western...we already have seen the video trailer already...that looked pretty western.
Fingers crossed it's a tune worthy of lots of airplay. Noel is capable of a massive radio friendly single. Here's hoping he has delivered.

I kind of knew Noel may pursue some western influences in his solo career. He has always seemed interested in that sort of musical style. Not saying he likes full blown country. Should be interesting to hear it regardless.

TIOBI and GOYHHL both have high register melodies vocal wise and this songs usually fit Noel perfectly. I like GOYHHL's melody so this is good news.
And a brass section!? fuck yeah Noel

"t is closer in style to more recent Oasis tracks such as The Importance Of Being Idle from Don't Believe The Truth and (Get Off Your) High Horse Lady on Dig Out Your Soul." ___________________________________________ Oh boy... here we go. For Christ's sake i hope he's mistaken and it sounds nothing like either of those 2 songs.
Idle is a good song but it's not why i fell in love Noel's material. As for HHL, come on let's be honest, that song sucked ass big time. If it only had this, if it only had that... fact of the matter is, it was terrible. Even if the guy is right, i am sure Noel will at least include a couple of real rock tunes on the album. It'd be a shame if out of BDI and Noel's albums, the best track ended up being 4LW. Noel's supposed to have the(real) goods.

1) Country and Western are completely different styles of music.
2) GOYHHL isn't as bad as you guy's are making it out to be.
3) Just because the writers said it sounds like a couple old Oasis songs doesn't mean it actually will.
We'll find out soon enough anyway. Monday morning guys!

country doesn't necessarily mean bad either, even if it's some sort of fusion... kinda like ldsmd, i liked that song, especially the version with liam's vocals. HHL is just... well, there's no way to sugar-coat it, "it's not as bad as you guys are making it out to be" lmao if that song isnt terrible, then i don't know what is.

Actually I've always liked the unmixed version of GOYHHL. That's the version I have. I don't even listen to album version anymore. Which probably why I like the song a bit more than most.

Damn, when did they announce that they were going to release the video on Monday? Can't believe I missed that. Excited now!!!!! I saw Rifles mention something about the place blowing up Monday in another thread and was going to ask what is supposed to happen on Monday, but wasn't logged in and never got around to it.

Well, I really like HHL a lot, so that bodes well for me. i'm just not sure how well this will chart. If its first radio play is a MONTH before the official single release, it will be like TSOTL again, where everyone who wanted the song had already downloaded it illegally. These days who'd be arsed to wait a month to buy a digital or physical CD single when you already have the song and only get one bside?

None of these comparisons mean anything. Remember people comparing Wigwam to All Around The World and A day in the life? I don't expect TDOYAM to sound too much like Oasis, so TIOBI and HHL are probably just the songs it's the closest to. That being said, I'm not a fan of TIOBI. Just can't see why everybody's loving it so much.
