For those unfamiliar, this is the tracklisting for Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds album.
'Everybody's On The Run' 'Dream On' 'If I Had A Gun' 'The Death Of You And Me' '(I Wanna Live In A Dream In My) Record Machine' 'AKA...What A Life!' 'Soldier Boys And Jesus Freaks' 'AKA....Broken Arrow' '(Stranded On) The Wrong Beach' 'Stop The Clocks'
From the four songs we've heard, they're all good songs...but is anyone else hoping that these are merely just the songs to be included, but the tracklisting is in a different order?
From what we've heard, Everybody's on the Run does not sound like a particularly good album opener, same for Stop The Clocks as an album closer. If we're assuming IIHAG and TDOYAM are the standout single songs for tracks 3 and 4, that relegates Record Machine to second class status. Especially if there's no guitar solos until track 6...which would be 'AKA...What a Life!', the dance track, as self-described by Noel. All of this makes no sense.
What I'm hoping happened is that whoever wrote the press release just obtained the list of songs that will be included in the album, but with the final track order yet to be determined. The album only comes out in another 3 months, after all.

i think he got the guitar solo thing mixed up myself.
but none of us have heard the fininshed article, should think they sound quite different (the soundcheck songs anyway, especially IIHAG if it has pedal steel in it)

I have a feeling that 'AKA...What A Life!' is an extension of '(I Wanna Live In A Dream In My) Record Machine' and 'AKA....Broken Arrow' is an extension of 'Soldier Boys And Jesus Freaks'. Something like where the end of record machine w/ a guitar solo turns into AKA...What a life, which is possibly an unfinished song that flows well with RM.. Same for aka Broken Arrow and Soldier Boys.. Just Guessing. But that would make more sense to me. I cant imagine record machine without a guitar solo, I also CANT imagine Noel having 2 instrumentals on his album! NO way. That would mean we'd only get 3 completely new songs never heard from demos/soundchecks. At least i really hope thats not the case.

Stop the Clocks is the last song so it's safe to assume that Record Machine won't have that Stop The Clocks bit in it.
The AKA's could be instrumentals. SOTSOG had 10 songs on it and one was an instrumental..

Have to say I'm quite exited by the tracklisting. Fair to say each of the tracks we've heard are going to be completely different to the previous versions. Quite confused that If I Had a Gun has no guitar on it but I'm in no doubt it's all going to be great

He said IIHAG sounded great on acoustic guitar and he was nervous about What a Life because the lack of guitars. He initially said no guitars then corrected himself that there were guitars though.

It's intriguing seeing "If I Had A Gun" for the third track. Noel always says the third track is the make-or-break of the album, so I'm excited to see him going with a track we all expect to love. Other than that, "Everybody's On The Run" seems like a staggered way to start the album (basing this opinion off the demo version), and "Stop The Clocks" doesn't excite me as a closer. I'd rather see it in the 8 or 9 spot, personally. But we can't be certain as to how these songs have evolved in the 2 years since Noel's been in rehab. But, I think the most exciting portion of the album will be the 3-4 spot (IIHAG and TDOYAM). Noel has a habit of making the 3-4 spots outstanding.

Noel thought Magic Pie was a really great song at the time he wrote it, and Waiting for the Rapture is definitely one of the highlights for me on Dig Out Your Soul. Hung In A Bad Place I'll give you, though.

Yeah, Noel thought he had an ace with "Magic Pie" at first. "Waiting For The Rapture" is my personal favorite off Dig Out Your Soul, so I count that as a win as well. "Hung In A Bad Place" is pretty terrible.
Noel says it's make-or-break, and we've seen that sometimes it's break.

My guess is that Everybody's On The Run will be a mellow but haunting opening ala Reel Around The Fountain by The Smiths. I think it will be a great opening track.

I don't think it'll be an in your face type of opener (at least from the soundcheck) but it could be a slowly building, haunting, type of thing which would make me happy.

Well my thoughts on the tracklisting are not good. The "AKA.." shit in particular is wrecking my head. We all know Noel is a bit of a dope when it comes to tracklisting an album. No doubt he's f*cked something up here that we'll be talking about ina few months.

just before the press conference a few people on here said the album only had 8 songs on it, so maybe those 'AKA...' songs are instrumentals?
i hope not and that people were confused with the other album having 18 songs on it.

My guess is that Everybody's On The Run will be a mellow but haunting opening ala Reel Around The Fountain by The Smiths. I think it will be a great opening track. I actually think he'll beef it up a lot. I think it'll be one of those songs that starts off quite mellow but gradually builds up to something big. I actually thought "that could work" when I saw the track listing.
