The guy kept his mouth shut about it, what's wrong with that? For me Noel insulted him today when he didn't have to. Andy has never said a bad word [in public] about Noel. . Noel didn't insult him, he expressed his view on what happened, completely justified. The fact that Andy "never said a bad word in public about Noel" has got nothing to do with all this. 'Insult' was probably the wrong word to use but what he was implying was he wanted Andy to say something in the midst of epic argument between two brothers and maybe even take someones side. Which would be wrong. Andy kept his trap shut which was the correct thing to do. Anyone with a half brain would keep their mouth shut. I have respect for him for doing that and so show Noel even if he doesn't have similar common interests to him. It came across a little shallow to me.

I think he kind of was insulting and rude, but not obviously. The way he singled out Andy in regards to the fight, referred to him as one of 'them two' and called everyone else except him and Liam his remaining friends.
Andy is a reserved guy so it's obvious he wouldnt say something in that kind of situation, so I think Noel was out of order bringing this up but I do see where he is coming from at the same time just that this was unecessary, its been and gone so leave it.

The thing is that Andy was Liam best mate in Oasis post 2000, Andy is more close to him than to Noel, this is clearly evident in pictures and interviews, hell, it was Liam who gave the idea to Noel to bring Andy, who isn't even a official bassist, to play bass with Oasis, Noel agreed more to please Liam.
Yeah, there are pictures of Noel and Andy togheter in the 90's, so what?? There are a lot o pictures with Liam and Robbie Williams togheter being close freinds, It means that both are still friends now??
So at that night Noel expected that Andy would calm Liam down, but then he saw Andy ignoring him and then after Oasis split he saw Andy with his wife, Liam and Nicole at that pool, it is really very strange.

You want to feel like your friends have your back. When one of them idly sits and watches another group member attempt to smash you to pieces, you're going to feel betrayed.
This wasn't like a night time brawl against street thugs where Andy may have feared for his life if he acted. No. This was Liam, a band member, and someone who had no issue with Andy and wouldn't intentionally hurt him if he tried to prevent Noel's face being smashed in.
Noel felt betrayed, and I can understand why.

I remember reading an article when Dig Out Your Soul came out where they ask Andy what he thinks his role is between Liam and Noel and he basically said when things get personal, don't get involved. I respect his opinion to let family issues be family issues. I have lost some respect for Noel through this whole ordeal, essentially throwing Andy under the bus when I've never heard Andy say a negative thing about Noel. I also seem to be in the minority that thinks allowing Liam to advertise his clothing label in an Oasis tour book is no big deal...I'd actually expect it to be in there. It sort of shows how controlling Noel was when it came to band decisions, even pretty minor ones.
I still think its odd that it is portrayed that Liam is so terrible but when it was all over with not only Andy but Gem (who is supposed to be close to Noel) and Chris all went with Liam. Maybe Noel didn't want them but if the decision was made at a bar a few hours after to continue then it appears that if they have to choose at that point it was with Liam.

If two people are going at it, brothers or not, you surely try to calm it down?

I lost respect for Noel a while ago. Probably in about 2007 or 2008. In the years since he has disappointed me so painfully. He really was my hero. At this point, I am not inclined to ever take his side seriously in any debate about the end of Oasis or any of its members.

If two people are going at it, brothers or not, you surely try to calm it down? Not one between such two highly tempered people like Noel and Liam. Their own mother can't even get them to talk to each other, how is Andy Bell going to defuse the situation?

That's not hard?

If two people are going at it, brothers or not, you surely try to calm it down? This. If Liam and Noel are having a heated debate about family issues, like their dad's role or whatever. Fine, that's there own personal stuff to discuss, stand by then. But if one is trying to batter the other, you get involved. Don't be stupid. Friends don't allow other friends to beat up your friend. Simple as that. And please remember, Chris and Gem followed Liam musically. That doesn't mean they aren't friends with Noel. In fact, it's great to know that both Gem and Chris are friends with bother brothers after the fact. Speaks really well of both of them, in my opinion.

If one is swinging a guitar at the other, surely you say "Whoa, calm the fuck down!". That's not hard? And he could have said that but we will never know. We have Noel's story, Liam's story and somewhere in the middle is the truth. The fact is if the band was hinging on Andy Bell to keep Liam and Noel from killing each other then the band stood no chance whether it was at that moment or weeks later when Andy wasn't there.

The way i see it is everyone's different if it had been bonehead 2 years ago he'd have stepped in ..he seemed more outspoken, andy seems quieter imo.I prefer gem to him though he seems alot easier to get on with... though andy is still great.
Fans will always read too much into all of this. All i dont get is why if noel could explain what happened today then why did liam keep saying ''just wait till he gives his story on it all'' why didn't liam just say what happened from his point of view?
he'll slag off noel about 'stools'' for e.g. & little things like that it's not like he dont like giving views, maybe he dont want the fans knowing it was down to him why oasis split? i dunno.
Noel did seem genuine in the interview though.
Anyway i love oasis, beady eye & im sure noel's albums will be ace too.
Just a question is 'high flying birds' the name of the first album or is it a band name noel's chose?
Also the morning son you're comments here are great btw .. i like the way you think about these things.

Andy's a quiet guy who comes across as very reasonable, and perhaps he thought it was wise to not get involved. I don't blame him at all - it's not his problem, it's strictly Noel and Liam's. It's a shame many folk here are slating him - what about every other person who was in the room eh?
I mean, god knows whether Liam nearly did hit Noel with a guitar - how do we know there wasn't an exaggeration from Noel? Who knows whether it was Liam's intention to hit someone, I don't think so.
Seriously, we have no right to judge Andy's personality on a row between brothers who we have no connection with whatsoever while all we're doing is basing our opinions on probably questionable and exaggerated soundbites from both brothers.

Security or crew could have stepped in, I imagine.
You're right.
Noel's reaction re. Andy is clearly "Thanks a lot, pal. Fuck you."

I just can't slate Andy because he was the first person to write a classic album. Ride was brilliant and he has had some good moments in Oasis history. I really think he was just too passive for his own good in this situation.

Ironic that as soon as we found out who wrote FLW, we all instantly ended the rumour it was about noel...
But i dont think it was for what my unpopular opinion is worth.
Reading these comments im feeling really sorry for Andy. Saying he is boring just because he isnt as outspoken in the media!
Dont understand how you all sit behind your computer screens and say you cant believe he didnt step in. If you put any of you lot in a room with liam and noel having a violent argument, most of you wouldnt step in.
If anything i think it shows how really distant the members of the band became from each other,as like already said, if this happened in oasis early days then bonehead would have saved the day.
One thing is for sure though, the worms are well and truly the can now.

I really think he was just too passive for his own good in this situation. I have to agree with you. Although I'm not a fan of ride, his work with Oasis (save for on DOYS) and his work with Beady Eye have been truly fantastic. That said, his personality is detached from his music. He surely must have either thought "stay out" or was paralysed into inaction....

At this point, I am not inclined to ever take his side seriously in any debate about the end of Oasis or any of its members. could you elaborate on why? Certainly, mate. I think that as we got to the end of Oasis Noel became miserable and turned into the Liam that everyone was annoyed with in the earlier days of Oasis. Not only that, but his music was depressing and often uninspired. While the first five tracks off DOYS are fucking monumental, his others were pretty unfortunate (in my opinion). Lastly, he'd gotten to the point where he was extremely authoritarian in the band. While Oasis looked outwardly democratic, it surely wasn't. Although band members were having their songs recorded, I honestly felt that Noel, while claiming to be directing the vision, was purposely leaving off good songs so that he wouldn't be upstaged (like he had been a couple times in the past 5 years)

I think that shows that Noel and Andy, while not the best of friends, had mutual respect. Likewise, Noel wouldn't expect me, you, or a random stranger sitting in a room to get involved. We're not in the band, we don't know them, just mere passer byes. How many times do I have to say that friends don't stand by and watch their friends get the crap kicked out of them. You just don't. Even being reserved isn't a good enough excuse. It doesn't take much to realize a little bit of effort is needed to diffuse a clearly serious situation. WHAT IF Liam ended up hitting Noel (even by accident like the guitar slipping while he tried to threaten with it)? What then? Would Andy remaining silent still be justified to you? Faithless' song, Mass Destruction, has a line that states "Inaction is a form of mass destruction." And, erm, well, it is. If you don't do something when you're capable of acting, then you become a part of the problem, too. I completely agree with epiphone.
