Your thoughts about the song.
I know it's a silly song about Bonehead but does anyone else think that this song sounds a lot like early Blur? Elements of Parklife and Country House specifically. Did Noel do that intentionally, kind of in a mocking way? Even the drunken "la la las" sound a lot like how Damon Albarn would sing them. Hopefully I'm not the only one who notices the similar style.
It's quite a meaningless tune, but boy is it catchy summertime pop.

Love it. And yes, I really do enjoy the absurdity of "She said her name was Dot/She didn't half talk a lot." Brilliant.
Also, the banter at the end is incredible. As Oasis went on, it seemed like they lost that fun they had in the early days - but I guess that tends to correspond with youth.....

I think this track exemplifies the true spirit of being in Oasis. Five lads having fun and not giving a f*ck! Marvellous

That's a huge part of what made Oasis special for me...a lot of their songs were just pure fun. It's a shame they lost that in a big way...I wouldn't describe ANY song the band released in the 2000's as 'fun'.

It's better than most bands lead single in my opinion. The production is really really great. especially the banter towards the end. But I was thinking about this the other day: was it really written about Bonehead? Noel could have titled it after it was written or recorded. If so, the tune could be more meaningful than we think. We always think about Bonehead on the beach when listening to it, right?

But I was thinking about this the other day: was it really written about Bonehead?) Noel said he wrote it for Bonehead to sing, and for it to be his 'Ringo track' like Yellow Submarine etc. The day they came to record it Bonehead was understandably nervous so he and Liam went to the pub and came back to the studio completely shitfaced. Noel deemed their attempts at the lead vocal so awful that he opted to sing lead himself. The resulting mayhem from Bonehead and Liam (and the lala chorus vocals) were made a crucial part of the recording and Noel once (jokingly?) threatened to release the Bonehead lead vocal version on an Oasis boxset should one ever come out.

I already knew most of that...EXCEPT the lala chorus vocals weren't originally part of the song? Damn, that's the best part.

Yeah I knew that Would like to hear a version with Bonehead on lead though!

What year was it recorded and what album would it have been intended for?

What year was it recorded and what album would it have been intended for? I'm pretty sure it was recorded in 1995 during the sessions for Morning Glory. It was recorded as a novelty track and was only released on the vinyl editon of MG.

What a nice son, a real hidden gem. I listened to a ripped version from youtube with a shitty quality for years, thought it was the production (it kinda fitted, because it's a "messy" song)
Only found out 2 weeks ago that there's in fact a perfectly clear sounding version of that! =D Also love the endig.

Really? Could someone please direct me to that? I only have the messy production where I agree with the above poster that it fits with the point of the song. Would love to hear a clear version though....

Crikey! I'd only heard the "messy" version as well. That is much better

Listening to it now. Loving it. I prefer this over She's Electric, if I'm being honest.

A very interesting song. Though not one I'd listen to often. Wish Bonehead had actually sung it, though....

A definite hidden gem! As someone up there mentioned, it really does encapsulate that sense of easy-going fun that was such a part of the band in those days.

"You know I need a little break to get away for a holiday so I can see the sun. Cause in the sun they say it's fun, if you get some." Awesome opening line.

There is no official press of this song on CD. It can only be found on some vinyl versions of What's the Story on track 7. It was also released once on a rare cassette of songs from the NME in 1996.
However, there are some early CD versions of What's the Story lying around somewhere that contains the track 'Step Out' and a slightly different mix of 'Hello'.
