"Gallagher 11" on the back of the top - absolute cringe In commemoration of the number of games he's been to. I both at this, while at the same time.

In commemoration of the number of games he's been to. Love him and everything but he is a shit excuse of a football fan and so is Noel if he really wasn't there today. Anyone who questions their love for Citeh is off base. It's not exactly like they became fans once the billionaires took over, is it? Also, many Oasis books cite instances where one of the brothers goes off and watches Manchester City in a hotel, or wherever. This was in the 1990s when they were shit and floating around the first or second division. Also, Palo Hewitt's book mentions they went to games as young kids. City mean a lot to them, and I don't understand where some of you get the impression that they are fake fans who don't care. This is way off base. Also, just because Noel can afford to fly back to England any time he wants to doesn't mean it's the smartest move.

Love him and everything but he is a shit excuse of a football fan and so is Noel if he really wasn't there today. Totally agree, I've had this argument many a time on here. I remember Liam saying he turned down a ticket to the League Cup semi derby last season because he didn't want to go to Old Trafford - as a football fan that was probably one of the most ridiculous things I have ever read. Really? I don't know the quote you're talking about, but if it's correct don't you think it's a bit tongue in cheek knowing Liam? I'm sure Liam had a valid excuse to why he didn't attend, and was just adding his standard flippant banter for entertainment's sake.....

Who cares about either Manchester side? Norwich will teach them both a footballing lesson next season! If you play anything like you did both times when you played us this season then I doubt you'll be doing that. Super Danny Graham!!!!! You did us a favour first game, made us wake up a bit! And at your place we had you camped in your box for the last half an hour.

Not really. By the sounds of it they used to go to loads of games before Oasis got big. I'd take the Gallaghers' anecdotes about Manchester City with a pinch of salt. You know how many times he's been?

He watched his language when his kid turned up though. Don't think i've ever heard Liam say 'forget' something as opposed to 'fuck' something.

Also, just because Noel can afford to fly back to England any time he wants to doesn't mean it's the smartest move. I don't mean to sound patronising here so don't take this the wrong way, but its a British thing. There is a difference between a football fan and a football supporter - a fan shows a passing interest where as a supporter actively supports. To put it into context, you have people who never tire of professing their love of Oasis because its trendy to do so, but only know Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger and Champagne Supernova. Then you have the people like you and me who know all the songs and b-sides and can name the non-Gallagher members of the band, etc. Football gained so much popularity in the early 90s, and you have a lot of "fans" nowadays who have no more than a passing interest in football, but claim to love their club because it is trendy to do so. When the going is good they'll occasionally turn up and boast how much they love their club, but disappear during the bad times and make no effort to actually go to the matches or put any effort into supporting the club. The real football "supporters" despise this type of "fan". Generally speaking, its a bit of an unwritten rule that, as a football supporter, you go to as many matches as you can get to. "Supporters" don't really have much time for the "fans" who can go but choose not to. So I'm sure you can kind of see where I'm going here? Alongside the songs, a big part of Oasis' appeal in the 90s was the laddish image, they were working class football fans just like the rest of us. They made a lot of money from that image. They're multi-millionaires living in their London mansions now though, and despite having so much free time on their hands, neither bother their arses to go to Man City aside from the once-per-season big games where the cameras are rolling. Sorry like, but as a football supporter that doesn't really wash with me. They may have went to matches as children, where've they been for the past 20 years? Iirc Ian Brown has a season ticket in the Stretford End at Man United despite living in London for example, where as Liam has a private box once every few years. Noel has at least made the occasional reference to Man City over the years, but Liam has never been seen at or mentioned Man City for years until the Arab takeover, but is like a fly around shit in his private box now they're relatively successful. I love them both, but I take their opinions on football with a pinch of salt.

As opposed to the heavy weight that you should put on a supporters words? lol
In my experience, even the most engaged fans talk out of their ass more often than not. Sport talk is 99% bullshit.

Normal sport fans are everywhere, yet to this very day I have never seen anyone falling under the same category who has the ability to actually understand or identify themselves with the clubs they are supposed to support. However, I do believe that when somebody is symbolized as a public figure, limitations of free actions follow regardless of their free will. Problems of tight schedule and security issues are two common examples. I believe that they should be allowed a bit of tolerance as they are the two key figures of THE OASIS.

I love them both, but I take their opinions on football with a pinch of salt. It is a bit patronizing considering I born and spent my childhood in England. Additionally, I've followed the Arsenal since 1996 (and no, it has nothing to do with AW....I was only 8 or 9 years old then! Plus they were my local Prem team). Now I watch as many games as possible, have at least one home or away kit for each season, have dvds, shirts, etc as well. But your definition would label me as only a fan because I don't (can't) attend games? A bit harsh. Remember, the Gallagher's both have families now with young children. It's not easy for them, even if they have the money. Let us not forget that both know the history of the club (which is akin to us knowing the history and bsides of Oasis). I think you're overlooking their passion for City. I don't get the impression they are just mere casual fans.
