It's strange the album has arguably the strongest singles out of all the albums, yet it's universally disliked. To all the gimps saying the production was shit, it was on purpose: the album was a back-to-basics which was deliberately more low-key than the grandiose previous two albums.

^ The worst Noel sung song on a Oasis album and it left out some quality B-sides... do the math(you could add She is Love to the equation too)

I've said it before .........
this album marked Oasis's return, big tunes, big concerts and big controversy.
2002 - what a great year to be an Oasis fan, it was like the 90's with them doing the great gig's (Finsbury Park was amazing), Liam getting into fights (German "business men"), mega anthems (SCYHO)
FUCK the production THIS WAS A GREAT ALBUM!

Why the hate for Force of Nature? I thought it was just more boring pub rock until I heard it live and it blew my head off.

I had an mp3 of Force of Nature over 2 years before HC came out so i wasn't entirely thrilled it made the album.

I had an mp3 of Force of Nature over 2 years before HC came out so i wasn't entirely thrilled it made the album. Indeed. This stinker was donated to the soundtrack of British film Love, Honour and Obey in 2000 so it was easily available on the net in the two years prior to HC's release. There were also live recordings of The Hindu Times and Hung In A Bad Place on the net from live versions probably 9 months before. SCYHO was the only song to impress me when I first listened to the HC leak a couple months prior to the album's official release, it's a class song, the less said about the rest of it, the better. Although, the Hindu Times demo on the single warrants a mention. Having been bored by the lackluster studio version, the demo with its hammering drum loop, scratchy guitars, Noel's layered vocals and meaningful lyrical changes ("I get up when i'm down" was cliched even by Noel standards, not to mention Van Halen got their first with 'Jump') marked one of the last times I was genuinely stunned by an Oasis release.

I agree that THT demo was superior in several ways. Really like that demo. In fact, it doesn't even have a demo feel, it feels pretty much completed (other than the vocals coming from Noel instead, of course). FON is just dreadful. I can't stand Noel's vocals on it, and I tend to like his vocals on almost everything. I even like The Fame, which gets criticized for Noel's apparently horrible vocals, too. What I will say is that the tunes are better live (but isn't that the case with most Oasis songs? No matter how good the studio version is, when they get it right live they take it to the next level and far beyond). That being said, they were able to make BM sound somewhat interesting live, even, which is a great accomplishment! Also, let's not confuse HC with the HC-era. I agree with the comment on the first page (too lazy to see who it was, apologies). Oasis returned to their anthem based best in 2002 with some great shows. That Finsbury Park video of Little by Little blows me away every single time I watch it - one of my favorite clips from an Oasis show (along the likes of Supersonic at Wembly 2000, and TUTS in Manchester 2005, amongst many many others of course). Also, Noel's vocals there on LBL are spot on, amazing powerful passion. So while HC is uninspired, they seemed up for it for the tour. But when have they not been up for it (bar DOYS and the complications that the broken ribs and backstage rifts brought)? That being said, I still maintain the DBTT era was the best time for the band (at least post 1990s, if not ever if discounting their success in the equation). In fact, it was so good that I couldn't see a split happening 3 years later, and I don't think many others could either. It's amazing how everything turned to shit in just a few short years. (Wow, it's been a long time since I've written a post this lengthy. Long - no pun intended - may it continue! )

Just because people say it's a bad Oasis album doesn't make it a horrible album. A bad Oasis album is still miles ahead of the rest. That's not true at all.

He wanted it to be their rock 'n' roll comeback record after the dreary SOTSOG.

The cover for me..the artwork is very dark/boring/un-imaginative its the worst youd have to say for an Oasis album I think that too, the cover would be better if it wasn't blurred IMO, it would be more like this. Does anyone here have the original HC picture cover without the blurring and with the original colors?? Would be good to see it.

I can only speak for myself but the reason I think HC is by far there worst album is the songs are the weakest, the production is the weakest and the general the direction (if you can call a piss poor MG wannabe a direction) is so uninspired.
HT- Great song but shite production FON- Utter crap HIABP- Gem's worst effort SCYHO- Admittedly a classic, showed that deep down Noel still had it SB- Very good song- Liam's best LBL- Oasis by number's dirge of a sing-a-long sounds like a MG cast off AQP- 2 minutes of silence would have been more interesting PAITM- Dull, dull and even duller SIL- Oasis worst song by a country mile, garbage!! BOADC- Actually very good and could have been better if Spike had produced it and been on SOTSOG BM- Rubbish finale for a rubbish album
Apart from SCYHO, HT and BOADC, the 30 mins or so of silence in between BM and TC is more interesting. Harsh I know but sadly it's my opinion and it's an album I'll probably never listen to again as to not tarnish my Oasis memories
