I'm probably in the minority with this opinion, but I don't think Noel's voice is as good as it was a couple years ago. Of course, unlike the unpredictability of Liam's live performances, Noel is still in tune and on pitch most of the time. But I think his voice is definitely weaker. He's started to rely on his falsetto and upper range a little too much in recent years, and a lot of the songs he plays solo acoustically, he's moved up a key or two from the original version. When he used to play with the full band in Oasis, in songs like 'Waiting for the Rapture', the loudness of the band would sometimes swallow his voice up. That would never happen to Liam. I think Noel's voice peaked around 2001-2006, after that I haven't heard any POWER in anything he sung. Obviously this isn't really a problem for Noel's straight acoustic performances, which is why he still did well in TCT 2010. Noel can probably still sing his acoustic songs well into his 70's, but any song with a heavy electric guitar in it I'm weary about. I don't even think his voice can pull off a song like "Magic Pie" convincingly anymore without him straining. On the other hand, if Noel ends up releasing a mostly acoustic solo album, that doesn't give much in terms of excitement.

I will be upset if it ends up being a mostly acoustic solo album and he just does the Bob Dylan or Neil Young thing, only because from a musical standpoint I know he's capable of way more.

He was all acoustic then though. It was just him, Gem, and Terry, not playing new songs with a full backing band.

Noel has plenty of vocal strength. To say the man peaked in 2006? Seriously?
He's got enough breath capacity to sing louder if he wants to after all he can maintain notes longer. His voice definitely has more tone and texture than it once did. He'll never be a snarling power vocalist like Liam...but that isn't a bad thing. Liam's voice can be a bit samey sometimes. It's a great type of 'same' but still.
I really don't believe he has lost his bottom end. He has begun using falsetto more...but I think that has more to do with the fact that he is figuring out more of how to use it effectively. And Noel's falsetto sounds great where it is used. And I don't think it is generally the case that people whose voices will begin to fail lose the bottom part of their range while their control of their high upper range gets better.
Until Noel TRIES to sing a tune that he used to and can't I don't think you have a case. He is making different choices...but I'd lay money he can reproduce every vocal he has ever laid down as good if not better than the original.
If there were any flaws in his performances in vocal strength in the last tour though probably had something to do with his broken ribs. We know they hurt for months after the attack...I'm sure that could have something to do with what you are hearing...

I still don't get why people think that Noel is doing an acoustic type album.
All I hear is, "well, if you hear the sound check videos, he's doing them acoustic" or "if you listen to the demos, they're all acoustic." What proof do people have that Noel is going to do an acoustic album, to have this irrational fear that he will do one. Maybe you could use the acoustic tour as reason, but its not that much of a substantial reason.
In the end, all I can go by are the chords that I hear. When he plays If I Had A Gun, I hear chords that remind me of Oasis' early WTSMG stuff, not a dry acoustic. The outro to that song is pretty up beat.
Noel's voice is good enough to hold down a rock song. I doubt if he does an entire album full of acoustics. His voice will do fine for rock songs. Besides, I think that Noel will go for an album that has the feel of the alternative DOYS tracks.

Everything he has ever written has at one point been acoustic. Why should the fact that his soundchecks tunes, which are probably still in development, are being played on acoustic guitar surprise anyone. Besides doesn't anybody else think it would sound a bit absurd for Noel to be hammering away on an electric guitar On his own without drums or bass... I remember watch the letterman behind the scenes when they are sound-checking Noel just randomly begins to play Strawberry Fields Forever. I have a feeling the snatches of tunes we have are probably most likely that. Noel actually just puttering around to keep himself from being bored. Maybe just on the tune he had been working on before Soundcheck. Doesn't necessarily mean that the song is more likely to be on his album than the tune we didn't hear that be worked on in his hotel later that night. As for the demos. We only have 2. I am not convince he is ever gonna release STC. And RM...there is an electric guitar for the middle 8 on it who knows what the finished version is supposed to sound like? And while I'm on the subject tell me that Noel doesn't have some power in his voice of that chorus and in that middle eight! "you can't give me a reason I don't need one to shine You can't give me the feelings Because they're already mine You get one in a million And if the sun won't rise on my soul Then I'll glow"

Like if you play Everybody's On The Run or If I Had A Gun on guitar, you can hear the rough patches. Mainly in the transitions from chorus, back to verse. The demos are just more defined sketches, but they're sketches non the less. That's all they are, why people take them to be the final version of the song I'll never know. The best way to describe the soundchecks and demos, is as sketches.

POTQ was where Noel found a new way to refresh his songwriting abilites.

Noel's voice has only gotten better with age. Seriously, listen to him on the White Room gig. He sounds pretty poor. Track his development, and you will see a consistent upward trajectory.
Sure, you personally may not like his current style. That's fair enough. But to try and deduce that he's using this style in place of the power ballads he did circa 2000 (like the electric version of DLBIA for FTM) because he is incapable of doing so now is just wrong.
Noel has different ways of approaching every song. That's why I love Oasis live. They can mix it up, and have different versions of the same track sound equally amazing.
Noel has developed into a fantastic singer. He doesn't have the raw edge that Liam has, and will struggle on more rockier tunes, but we knew that from the very beginning. Noel's voice is fantastic, though. And I won't accept an argument telling me otherwise.

I really hope the album is mainly acoustic. He can't really sing the rockers so well. Noel don't have the rawness in his voice to make a rock 'n' roll tune fantastic! Like Liam can. BUT Noel is amazing when he sing songs like The Importance Of Being Idle, with a semi-acoustic sound.

I think Noel will surprise everyone tbh. He is capable of bringing something out which pushes the boundaries but still appeals to a wide audience. It'd be a safe bet to assume that it's be a mellow, acoustic album which would very much suit his voice and style but like people have said, every song he has written started out life on an acoustic guitar and has then evolved from there. I personally hope he makes use of strings in his solo effort to give the songs a bit more depth but other songs like 'Everybody's on the run' for example will sound good as raw as we heard it in the soundcheck. That song, for me, doesnt need anything else. As far as his voice is concerned though....I dont think it limits him to a certain type of song so lets hope he does experiment and give us something spectacular.

POTQ is a proper Noel tune. His vocals fit the best in those kind of songs. STC would be another example if it develops into finished form. And yeah, I agree with most people here that his vocals got better as he aged. I personally cannot stand his demos in the late 80s, and his live performance in the 90s were weaker than they are now.

I haven't really ever thought that Noel was really good in singing the more rockier tunes. A good example of this is when he had to take over for Liam in Japan in 2000. He does a great job of course, but let's compare his version of Cigs and Alcohol to Liams. It sounds so weak in comparison. Would really like to hear him experiment with his voice on heavier songs, much like he did with developing his voice for the more calmer tracks and started with the falsetto bits and stuff like that.
When it comes to ballads though, he can't be beat. Easy as that. Never gonna happen, but I think he could have done a great version of For Anyone.
While we're on the subject on Noels voice, I would also like to mention an observation I did on the Royal Albert Hall gigs in '10. Right at the end of the show when he did Married With Children, you could hear signs of rasping in his voice. Didn't sound bad or anything like that, but like I said, was just an observation, and I've no doubt that Noels voice will only continue to prosper with his solo career and get better.

I believed you've based your opinion on live performances of TIOBI and WFTR with full band... Indeed they don't sound too powerfull, but you've got to understand that doing falsettos with a full band behind you, is fuckin' hard man... And that's why I think Noel does a pretty good job in it... You should consider his performances in other songs, like The Masterplan, which is not fully acoustic, man he nailed every single note in a way that amazes me!
So, I would go for the other way. He's not losing power in his voice and relying on falsettos, he's developing the falsettos each time more....

Acoustic = Great Voice Full electric band = Weak voice.
I won't be going anywhere near a solo Noel album if it's full of electric full band songs but personally I think he's way smarter than that, Noel knows his strength is in acoustic ballads and that is what I think most of the songs will be. Like I've said before, he's no Neil Young or Paul Weller that's for sure

And while I'm on the subject tell me that Noel doesn't have some power in his voice of that chorus and in that middle eight! "you can't give me a reason I don't need one to shine You can't give me the feelings Because they're already mine You get one in a million And if the sun won't rise on my soul Then I'll glow" Again, that was recorded from the DBTT sessions in late 2004/early 2005. He also wrote that song a couple years earlier. But I don't have a problem with Noel's studio vocals, those will always sound good, I'm mainly referring to when Noel performs non-acoustic songs live. If that's the case, why is he retroactively going through old songs and playing them in higher keys for several of his songs? Slide Away, Listen Up, Don't Look Back In Anger, Don't Go Away, Half the World Away, Rockin' Chair and Digsy's Dinner (when he played it at RAH last year). There is absolutely no reason to play all of these songs in a higher key now unless he can't sing them as strongly, considering he wrote (and performed them!) very well in the lower key years ago.

It's a very weak argument. Peoples voices don't rise as they get older generally. They tend to get lower. Look @ Liam...THAT is how someone loses their voice with age. Even @ his best his vocal range has noticeably decreased...most noticeably on his upper register...and you can tell because we can all hear the strain in his voice.
If he is changing the keys it because he is either bored and is switching it up slightly or he likes them better than way. And in the case of the originally Liam sung tunes...those original keys were chosen to cater to his voice @ the time. Every singer has keys that he prefers to sing in so it doesn't surprise me that Noel should change the key for his versions. Maybe Noel's vocal preferences have even changed. When he originally recorded DLBIA and The MASTERPLAN he was pretty amateurish with the use of his own voice...he may not have even have picked the keys that actually best suit his voice since I am not convinced he knew his voice that well. I think he just got to know his voice a lot better around 2005-2006 when he started practicing and performing the acoustic shows that he really started understanding what his voice could do and when it sounds and feels best.
I have never heard anyone say before "when obviously so and so is losing his voice...he's singing to much in falsetto." I am give to understand falsetto isn't the easiest thing to do vocally. And it's certainly not the fallback plan for a failing voice.
What exactly is it that makes you think he is incapable of singing lower. Does he sound strained on the lower notes indicating that he can't go any lower? I don't think so.
Basically you are saying Noel can't get any power out of his voice because of performances on 1 tour over the span of a year where he had a broken ribs for the majority?
This is a laughable thread.
