So hot on the heels of the Barrowland gigs we have Manchester!!
Who's going? what night?
I'm going up Saturday and staying in the Ibis hotel til Monday and seeing beady Eye Sunday night. Well charged up for this weekend.
Can anyone recommend some good pubs in the area of the hotel or the apollo?
Prob gonna check out the PG store on Sunday too and watch the Liv v utd game.
Come join me for a pint! ;-)

I wouldn't bother going to the Apollo too early, there's nothing near by and it's about 4 quid for a pint.
Pub-wise, I'd head to the Northern Quarter, which is about a five minute walk from the Ibis. Some good pubs and bars up there - Dry Bar (which was owned by New Order), The Northern, Black Dog, Simple, Cafe Centro, Trof and Simple are all pretty good.
There's not too many pubs near the Ibis - The Old Monkey is probably the closest, but is just a standard pub really.

Oh there's a Wetherspoons and Varsity (Alibi) around the corner too on Oxford Street if you're after a cheap pint.

Add to that the Ape and the Apple which I ended up in on my own when a load of my friends decided to go to Panacea (WTF?). I wasn't having it so went for a pint on my own and went home when a 70 year old drunk started talking to me about Utd. I'd stick with Northern Quarter but laugh off Trof unless you want food. Every time I go there it's table service only and they can take an age if you just want a beer or 3. On top of the others, I'd say Night and Day (in NQ) or if fancy a stroll round town, Sinclairs on Exchange Square opposite the Printworks sells beer at less than £2 a pint (no "brands" but damn good). If you go anywhere near the Hilton on Deansgate my favourite pub is Cask (down Liverpool Road towards the Science Museum). Sells all sorts of foreign beers, has a beer menu and by far the best jukebox in town. If you're looking for anywhere for a night out on the Saturday, I'd go to either Northern Quarter, 42 st (club), The Venue, South or Fifth Ave. 42s, Venue and 5th Ave are all quite studenty and Northern Quarter and South are a bit older but they're all good fun for us dirty rock n rollers.

I never quite got the northern quarter, it's expensive and one too many posers for me personally, the dry bar I guess is ok. I tend to drink in the temple of conveniance and the thirsty scholar on oxford road, brilliant jukeboxes in both

So jealous. Maybe if I keep saying I wish they come to DC it will happen? One can hope.
Enjoy the gig!

Trof is fine for bar service on a night once food has been stopped. It usually has some good tunes playing on a Saturday too whenever I've been in. Is the Brickhouse still open on Whitworth Street West? They usually have some kind of after-party type night on after all the big gigs. I've never been in there though, so not sure what it's like. Although I had heard it is currently being done up cos there's new management.

I tend to drink in the temple of conveniance and the thirsty scholar on oxford road, brilliant jukeboxes in both It's not that expensive for in town! Only like 10-20p a pint more. There are a few posers about, but it's better than being in Printworks or summat. Thirsty Scholar is decent though yeh, as is Lass O' Gowrie around the corner on Charles Street. Could be a decent place to go if you want to go to Factory to finish the night off. There's also the Garrett on Princess Street just up near 5th Ave. if you decide to go. It's pretty cheap and the jukebox is decent.

Was there for the last night and they shut at about half 4 with everyone in the whole place singing Elbow's One Day Like This. I've never seen so much emotion in a club but that place had bundles of it! They're turning it into a gay bar apparently.

Instead of the Dry Bar have you ever tried Matt & Pfreds? Just across the road past Piccadilly Records.
I've not been in.
Just wondering if it's any good?

I'm going. Any idea what time they'll be coming on? What time did they come on at Barrowlands? Can't be arsed with Kane and am only in Salford so hoping to arrive just in time then get a quick exit.

It's usually just some people playing Jazz music up in the corner with lots of tables etc. surrounding them. It's decent enough though - pretty chilled out.
