...is that (because of his lack of talent laziness) he seems to be absolutely unable to write a song with a proper chorus. Now, I'm fully aware that a song structure is not a fixed formula, but that's not the case. Most of his songs are built around a vague idea and never fully developed to a point where you can say that he bloody nailed it. There's almost always something missing...
He tends to use his "la-la-la's" as a prosthetic of a chorus (Soldier On, TMS) or hide the weakness of the tune behind tons of psychedelic production (TMS is not great, because Liam wrote a kick-ass melody, it's great because of Lillywhite's production.) "Wigwam" is the best example of Liam's pattern - 3 unfinished bits merged together by a skillful producer. However finely sewed up, it's still a Frankenstein of a song.
And don't get me wrong mates, listening to DGSS still gives me a fu*kton of pleasure. And also my 3 month old kid's second name is...Liam.

I guess you would have preferred his son's name to have been Noel? ;D

I agree. But I would argue that he sometimes comes up with a fantastic spot on chorus like I'm Outta Time.

I agree. But I would argue that he sometimes comes up with a fantastic spot on chorus like I'm Outta Time. And according to Liam it took only nine years to finish the song

For Anyone & Love Like A Bomb have great choruses as well. And while Guess God Thinks I'm Abel doesn't have a "proper chorus" as you lot like to say, it's a great song.

There are no problems with Liam's songwriting. You just have problems with your mental capacity.

It's an interesting point, cos' we're all used to Noel's style which have heavy choruses.... I don't see it as a problem, it's his style and it's not a rule, since a lot his songs does have choruses indeed. And I don't consider For Anyone one of them. By the way I think that song is lame.

To the la la la bits.
I think the reason that that is is that, though Liam can play a guitar, his primary instrument is his voice. If Noel were writing a tune and he needed an extra something during a bit of a song he'd put in a guitar line because @ the end of the day he is primarily a guitartist. If Liam needs to add a little something he'll use his voice...and just singing nonsence like shalala or lalala for something to say because he can't come up with actual words to fit.

For Anyone is just a chorus and Love Like a Bomb is co credited to Gem, so he probably wrote it. Doesnt solve the issue raised in this topic and i kinda agree. Liam's songs are underdevelopped. Sometimes it works (on HC, on DOYS), sometimes it dont.

I agree. But I would argue that he sometimes comes up with a fantastic spot on chorus like I'm Outta Time. yeah, and when he managed that, he then couldnt be arsed to write a second verse for it.

I'm sure Noel writes songs like that all the time, it's just that he doesn't release them like Liam does.

Liam isn't a songwriter, plain and simple. He might make good attempts at being one, but at the end of the day his songs are nothing more than jingles. Liam's song writing process is basically him just playing a couple of chords and maybe making up a line or two, and then just basing the whole song around that. And really, anybody who has a good imagination can write a song like that. Songwriting is all about dedication, and that's something Liam obviously doesn't have.

I forgot to say, I agree entirely with the opening post. He does strike gold sometimes though. Songbird is a genuine classic.

has he actually ever written a chorus? the closest he's come are just simple refrains.
