He would have improved both IMO  I like Sardy but I don't think DBTT has a particularly good sound, especially on songs like A Bell Will Ring and Love Like a Bomb. Both these albums are meant to be light summery albums like DGSS and I think Lillywhite would have got this sound better. HC has terrible production, and he might even have been able to stop Noel omitting Idlers Dream for that shitpiece She is love too |

I agree. I love the DOYS production, but the DBTT production could've been much better. I like that album, but it doesn't give me any "summer feeling" and it would probably be better with a bit more colourful production.

sardy made oasis sound 1 dimensional on DBTT. compare to his production of jet...a band that is actually 1 dimensional sounds like it has a lot more depth when he produced them.

This is useless. He didn't. Noel doesn't let a producer pick tracklisting and HC was mostly uninspired from the get go. I don't there was really much saving it.
He might have done well on DBTT. But I'm glad we got that record @ all

i really don't understand the 'Heathen Chemistry' backlash. is that a collective live4ever forum agreement? or something Noel or Liam said and is now taken as gospel?

I don't think the tunes are that bad...just a bit uninspired for the most part. I don't think it's the production that let it down. It just doesn't have that much to say for itself. Of all the albums Oasis did this is the one where they most seemed to be going through the motions. That's why I think HC is lacking...since ou asked. |

I think it is great that you like that album so much...I just don't know why you are bothering to tell me... You asked why people didn't seem to like HC. I told you my reason. You rebutted with "well I like them" What did you expect me to say? "oh you're right. The songs are great..." I don't think the the songs aren't good...I just don't think they are great...I don't think their is a genuinely great song on there...nothin rises above very good...and that is the only Oasis album like that for me. |

This thread is becoming really crazy.
Liam's vocals were the worst at HC era. SCYHO could have been a classic if it hadn't been for his crap vocals. The album flows in a crazy way, with AQP being largely responsible for it.
Even Lillywhite can't change that. HC is lacking.

I wish lillywhite had produced EVERY oasis album.The first album would have sounded like the stone roses first and all the others would have sounded much less overblown and more interesting.
The main problem with Heathen Chemistry and Standing on the Shoulder of Giants is the plodding and annoyingly lifeless tempo on most of the songs.
Songs like Gas Panic,Sunday Morning Call,I Can See a Liar,Roll It Over,Force of Nature,Hung in a Bad Place,Little by Little,(Probably) All in the Mind and Born on a Different Cloud to mention the most extreme examples,definitely need more uptempo arrangements,because despite being mostly NICE songs,you CAN'T SEE IT BECAUSE THE ARRANGEMENTS ARE SO FUCKING BORING and lifeless.
These songs and others have SO MUCH potential and liam's OBNOXIOUS vocals and/or the slow-motion executions of the songs,make the original versions really hard for me to listen.
