Far exceeded expectations.
Beat Goes On is the stand out classic. Oasis could have released this as a Swan song and it would be a #1 hit. Should be the next single.
For Anyone, Wigwam, Millionaire are all fantastic.
Bring the light rocked! And the Roller was a good stand off single.
Wind Up Dream, Four Letter word, Three Ring Circus and Kill For a Dream are all the next tier, but still non-single good tracks.
I loved Oasis, and I loved Noel, but with all the albums after Be Here Now though Liam needed to be on more songs (Noel doing the b-sides was a nice touch).
The only songs that didn't do it for me first listen was Standing on the Edge of the Noise (which just reminds me of the Beatles Filler tracks), and Beatles and Stones (which is more interesting than well put together).
Not on here a lot but for those who bash the album in anyway and are on here - how much free time do you have? If you love it, awesome. If you don't like it just don't come on here, go back to work or go to school.
Now they gotta pull off album #2 in 2012. I can see them doing well if they just keep throwing darts, but they gotta keep releasing something new otherwise they will lose momentum. Liam aint 20 anymore, and this ain't 'fresh and exciting' but just very good!

I don't think that you should start an arguement for why something is 10/10 by saying that it "far exceeds expectations"
What it says to me is "I was expecting something disappointing and they gave me something really good...this is the best thing ever"
You're riding a high and I don't believe you.

Fair enough, but I think a lot of people were worried after hearing the end of Dig Out Your Soul. Regarding your comment on not believing me [that i think this?]... ummm you are 100% wrong, but believe what you want.
I like this better than Dig Out Your Soul, which I still liked.
I was telling my gf the only thing I think they will have a hard time pulling off is their live show. They seem to pull off the ballad very well.

I would give it 10/10 when comparing it to the previous work of Liam/Andy/Gem in Oasis. 7.5-8/10 for a realistic review though

It sits on par with your favorite albums of all time? really? BDI will have trouble topping this because it's that great? I think it's a very good record...but I have no doubt they can do better simply by sifting out some of the chaf on the next album. It's a really good debut album and a great starting point...but this isn't the apotheosis of BDI...

I definitely don't agree that it's up there with my favorite albums of all time yet, and it probably never will be. I do think they might have a hard time topping this though. I'd like to think they'll exceed this one, but there's still a part of me that's saying that they only have a finite number of good songs in them. If nothing else, it will be hard for them to exceed my expectations with the next album as much as they did this one. They'll be much higher after hearing this, but that speaks to the quality of DGSS.

haha ok... so no, its not Morning Glory/DM/BHN for me, or doesn't give me the same excitement as the first Strokes album or Arctic Monkeys Album. But it's very very good.
Put it this way, while I appreciated the latest great Sufjan Stevens, LCD Soundsystem, the decemberists, beach house, ... this album has the oasis swagger to it which made them that good.
When your team is ___________ (insert: Toronto Maple Leafs, Machest United, New York Yankees, Green Bay Packers) and they make a good move, then yes, that justifies my 10/10. Put it this way, I would still give Standing on the Shoulder of Giants an 8/10 and thats their worst IMO.

Their debut album is better than the Oasis last album, and I do think DOYS is great. So that's a good sign. Ironically, it was the music of Liam, Gem and Andy who have not made Dig Out Your Soul an even better album lol.

The outros are sometimes obnoxiously long, the production on SOTEOTN is disgraceful, some of the tunes are a bit lacklustre and IMO the album would have been leaner and strong without them. It's possible they are all tapped out of ideas already...but I think that them being on the road playing music together and hanging out will only be better for the prospect of them making a really solid second effort...or maybe they'll do to traditional sophmore slump and it'll be the third album that they work out the kinks. If this were any other new band I'd give them the benefit of the doubt that they are finding themselves and that they'd only grow over the next couple album. So I am going to give BDI the same 'glass half full' treatment.

if writing 2 or 3 verses and running them into the ground is a 10/10 album then yes,yes it is.

I take it you didn't like Be Here Now (with the outros comment). I missed that on the last 4 Oasis albums. I loved the obnxious outros like Some Might Say and the Be Here Now Magic Pie, It's Getting Better Man, etc.
For Beady Eye I think the outro for Wigwam is great and Bring the lights outro is rocking! (if you are an author or some english major maybe cringe, but i think it rocks!)

^^^ Hopefully being on the road and the fact that they seem to be letting their ideas flow a little more freely will help them with their second effort as well. I think they're experience in making albums in the past should help them with the traditional sophomore slump. They've all been through this before and they know they have to keep the pedal to the floor so they don't lose any momentum.

I wouldn't have minded a more critical eye on BHN outros...with the exception of AATW...I love every second of that tune. I love massive outros on live albums...but for a studio album I think if the song has stopped saying anything new letting it go on and on is a flaw....

They've all been through this before and they know they have to keep the pedal to the floor so they don't lose any momentum. Fingers crossed. But they are still branching out...and Andy, and Gem to a lesser extent, may be able to navigate around getting lost in the process of making that second album...but despite Liam's presence in the music business for 20 years...I don't think he is that seasoned in the practicalities of studio production.

I think if you aren't happy with The Beat Goes On, Wigwam and For Anyone, you won't be happy with this band....

Maybe for example Revolver or Sgt Pepper's or OK Computer are in different ways better than Dig Out Your Soul. But if I was to pick five albums with me to the grave, it would be there along with DM, WTSMG, BHN and TM.

For Anyone, Wigwam, Millionaire are all fantastic Bit OTT mate, theres very very few 10/10 albums, and at the end of the day you've had the leaked album for 2 days so a 10/10 rating is a bit of a joke. Dont get me wrong its far better than i thought it would be (After hearing Bring the light months ago), i'm loving it and its a certain 8/10 for me but again i've had it 2 days, need to wait a few months at least. I really do like most of the songs on the album, as long as i like 8 or more songs i think in my views its a great album. I do miss a few 'rockier' songs though, 4 letter word i love but theres a lot of 'slowies' on this with long drawn out endings. Still good. Cant wait to see them in concert but saying 10/10 after 2 days is a bit OTT, just as bad if someone says 2/10 after a few listens 10/10 means an all time classic which people will be talking about for yearssssssss. I'm loving this album but 10/10 is a rare score (specially after 2 days !). We're all still excited by the leak and the new songs.

Ironically, it was the music of Liam, Gem and Andy who have not made Dig Out Your Soul an even better album lol. I was thinking about this....I think that's down to DGSS being more immediate, and radio friendly. Remember, DOYS wasn't suppose to be catchy. I think DOYS is more mature (well Noel's songs that is), but I'm going to enjoy listening to DGSS much more I feel.

I think 3/5 is what the album is, anymore and your talking rubbish and any lower and you're being unfairly critical.
